- This new trailer for Assassin's Creed: Unity shows what happens when an Animus simulation starts to break down: time travel, basically. Watch for a glimpse of new Assassin Arno being flung through time, avoiding trains, climbing the Eiffel Tower, and using a mounted gun emplacement to take on enemy planes during World War II.

Jason Orozco It's not just modern weapons. It's the change in timeline that does it for me. I wanted to play an AC game with an Assassin in the French Revolution, not World War 2.
I would like it if it was with a completely different character in a seperate game / DLC release, but I just hope this isn't in the main storyline as that would kill the experience for me personally.
P.S. Right now, 13 people (including me) can't get over this.

I've wanted a ww2 assassin's creed for a long while so I am actually kinda pumped for this
I love it too. I personally want to see a Creed game set in the more modern times (WW1, 2 and to today)
I don't get the backlash either. People always complain and want variation in their games. They accuse Ubisoft of spitting out the same game since ACII because of the yearly releases. But as soon as AC does *something* new (i.e. Black Flag's pirate theme, Co-Op, Templar protagonist), almost *every* comment I see is complaining that AC isn't AC anymore. Is there anyone who is satisfied with the direction AC goes? I have to look in between the cracks to find *one* positive comment. It gets depressing after awhile.
Adding time travel just put this game on my radar. I don't care that it doesn't make sense. Time travel makes everything better.
It's one of those Rift missions, where you can actually relive different periods (I think).
There's the Middle Ages (with Jacques de Molay), la Belle Époque (late 19th century Paris, when the Eiffel Tower was actually built), WWII Paris,... and perhaps Renaissance Florence, the Crusades, and others time periods seen before.

How long have these rift missions been a thing?
It's obvious that this will be a very very small part in the game, it's not rocket science. They are releasing more and more information and trailers about the French revolution game, they won't fuck it up changing everything now. It will probably be a mission in which there is a glitch in the Animus and Arno is teleported to WWII, period, the end, and then everything returns normal.
***** Considering the entire point of the game has been advertised as French Revolution, I highly doubt it's going to be a major part. Like I sad in a previous comment, I only wished Ubisoft had not advertised this and left it as an easter egg for players to find in game, or, at the very most, teased the possibilty of it by severely glitching the scenes in WWII for the trailer so to only faintly see the Eiffel Tower and hear machine guns. They just gave away way too much in this trailer.

If Ubisoft is really pulling a time travel, I hope we could see Altair (end of AC1), Ezio (Brotherhood), Connor (right after ACIII), Aveline, Haytham (newly arrived in Boston) and Edward (end of ACIV). THAT is the REAL Assassin's Creed Unity. Have all the previous Assassins come together in one game, and allowing players to take control of any of the 7 characters (including Arno), with co-op of supporting this. During single player, players can change between any of the 7 GTAV-style.
This idea could see some pretty fun stuff, such as the Kenways all admitting about their daddy issues, Altair learning how to swim, and maybe a romance between Ezio and Aveline. Or have Aiden Pierce from Watch Dogs get transported to the French Revolution. Let's see Aiden try to hack anything. Good luck.
IF it's really time travel, maybe he meets up with Captain Steve Rogers. A cross-over with Marvel Cinematic Universe???

Arno could be the replacement for Black Widow, as she doesn't have any real powers such as flight. Imagine how fun is it for Assassin's Creed: The Winter Soldier.
Actually, I long for an AC game with multiple protagonists, like GTA V.
Unity was developed over 4 years, which was almost as long as GTA V's development period.
This is a cool idea but I wouldn't like it to be part of the main game, I feel it would be better as a DLC or AddOn

Everyone seems really confused and I don't know why it's pretty obvious what this is. This isn't DLC it's part of the main game, it'll be the equivalent to the modern day sections from previous games. The animus starts breaking down and the assassin in the animus gets thrusted into a different time period, explaining why he knows what everything is and how it works. I imagine there will be multiple levels of this set in different time periods.
But the assassin himself never time-traveled right? Or did he...

lildecable technically he is but its a simulation where desmond plays as him. but desmond dies so the use his dna to find pieces of eden that control the world that were built by some wierd technologically advanced species. to be honest the assassins creed plot is pretty looney so it doesn't matter what happens

roberto siragusa Possibly. They might be anomalies- maybe stuff that's built into the main campaign, like the Altair sections in Revelations. Or, maybe it will be side missions, like the Frontiersman stuff in AC3.

The outside the animus is very interesting. It was the main plot of the game ffs. There's a God about to take over over the world or some shit. I'd prefere that then having a mindless game of just counter attacking and running in differant times. Though I don't know what he hell they were thinking in pirates creed black flag.

I think this is actually whoever is controlling Arno via the Animus. Why it may look like Arno but it's really the 'assassin' controlling him.
But who controls Arno's dialog? The assassin?

You know, there are certain things, Ubisoft, that you should keep to your selves until *after* the game has been released. I mean seriously, imagine a fan's reactions to the animus all of a sudden breaking down and he/she being sent to the 1940's. It would be a cool easter egg and would get them talking for a long while. I mean I'm talking a "Would you Kindly" level of plot twist in the Assassin's Creed Universe. Now, probably the most shocking point of the game, is up for everyone to see on the internet before the game has even been released. Who cares if you're worried people would complain about having machine gun turrents in one section, or that reluctant customers wouldn't have a prompt to buy the game until now. The shock value would definetely get those who bought it talking and they would tease others about the twist to persuade them to buy the game as well. All I'm saying, is that you don't need to give away one of the coolest easter egg in Assassin's Creed in order to get people hyped for this game.
That is what they should have done. you're just playing a mission and just as you complete it the hud messes up then you get this cutscene where the lady is talking and you do what Arno did at the begging of the trailer and then bam.

Do some of you people not understand? In the trailer the animus was malfunctioning and sent the animus user, to a different moment in time. I think it looks cool. It's different than the assassins creed we usually get each year.

I think this is great. Assassin's Creed 3 tried out ships and ship battles and it was great, so they made Assassin's Creed 4 around that. Now they're gonna test the waters for a war scenario to see how well it works in the game, and whether or not people like it. If they do, the next game will probably take place in a war campaign. I really like that idea

So basically you get one or two missions wwhere the animus falls to pieces and you time-travel? Innovation from fucking Ubisoft? Why is everyone pissed? You get two missions where you have to enter a different time stream in a different era. It is actually a pretty good idea for once. What surprises me most is that this is getting more hate then the lack of a female assassin.

I think someone hacked the Animus. At the begining Arno was running away from a red Animus wall. It's red, so i think someone hacked it. I hope it's Eurodito.

Every game anyone sees anymore someone has to say it is bad. They are one minute trailers so just enjoy them. I am in the process of learning how to make video games and it is no easy task so just give the game a break. Any game trailer now just gets hated on in the comments when someone is probably excited for the game but someone always says these kinds of things. I personally am excited for games like AC unity and Farcry 4 but when I read the comments I always see people hating on the game

For once, I'm praying this is for DLC. I really don't want this, at all in my game. Yes it's content but honestly it seems ridiculous for the franchise as a concept. It would be as weird as saying the Raiden mission in Ground Zeroes was canon. The only reason I let that mission slide was because 1. Hideo always worked like that and 2. he made sure whatever humor which would alter the concepts at hand were announced as non-canon as well as separate from the primary content. Don't get me wrong a WWII AC seems like a decent idea overall, especially given the setting, but for once I would rather have that as yet another milked game rather than having some cheap Animus glitch bull. Pardon the hostility but oh boy, this is something I didn't want to wake up to.
I agree. An Assassin's Creed game set in World War 2 seems like a good idea. Heck, even World War 2 DLC would be really interesting to see.
But having an Assassin from the French Revolution using machine guns and fighting the nazis? Blasphemy I say!
And before anyone says "But someone is using the Animus to control Arno", I don't care. I was going to play this game expecting to play an Assassin in the French Revolution, not have some time-warp glitch mess up the Animus and send him to a completely different time.
lewietheterrier Considering this seems to be side mission material, you could simply just ignore it, unless you're one of those completionists. I honestly don't get all the backlash this is getting. Ubisoft hasn't said this was a major portion of the game. As much as I disagree with the opinion, I understand the hate AC IV got because it did something very different to other AC games because the difference was a major portion of the overall experience. This looks to be more like an easter egg, something players can experience if they want.

lewietheterrier Well, Ubisoft seems to be going with the "more fleshed out side missions" idea, so it's a valid point to say this might just be a side mission.
It might just get introduced to you once in the main story (Probably this event) and the rest will be optional.

While everyone cries, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how fucking cool this is! I mean, Arno shooting down planes didn't happen, so it's breaking the sync of real life. So will these glitches change the future? Think of it as a butterfly effect kind of.

i kinda just realized that they have shown off the setting, weaons, special features, story, gameplay, multiplayer, and even this. but not one thing has been shown about the modern day setting with the modern assassins and abstergo.

What ze flying fuck? I'm okay if there's a mission occuring in WWII due to a glitch of the Animus (something who would be related to what happens in the present day) but if the Animus changes the historic period, shouldn't it also change Arno for an ancestor of that era?

This is the first time I want a part of a game to be DLC. Im fine with the concept of WW2 but if its in the games campaign it would ruin the flow and the mood (in my opinion)

For anyone confused, the Animus just simulates what happened and the person using it has to relive the Assassin's/Templar's life. Im assuming this is a side game like the ones in Watch_Dogs but instead of a digital trip its just a mess up in the Animus which puts the person in the Animus in a different time but with the same Assassin.
Its not actual "Time Travel" which is kinda misleading.
I wanted a game set in the French Revolution, not in World War 2.
Maybe in a seperate game or as future DLC, but not in the main Unity storyline. >:(

I can't believe many people will be upset about this "Time Anomaly" thing. COME ON PEOPLE THIS IS JUST A VERY TINY PART OF THE GAME OR A DLC!! And also do you know what Animus/Helix is? Its a machine the relives the lives of the protagonists ancestors!! I guess people who are very upset about this doesn't know anything about the franchise. They just play it, didn't know that this kind of "time travel" glitch thing is on animus/helix and animus/helix is a big part of Assassin's Creed.
Assassin's Creed: The Fall is set on 19th Century to 20th Century I think. It's great, even if it's just a comic book.
Its likely its close to a digital trip in watch dogs, probably just for fun. But man am I exited to scale the Eiffel tower while being riddled with bullets
