Ok, little bit of a dark history here... So X-Japan is sited as one of the originators of the Style Movement known as 'Visual Kei'...way out makeup and hair styles and costumes...simular to what occured with "Glam Rock" bands in the 80's in the West only Visual Kei was WAY more sophisticated. After about 15 yrs together, the lead singer, Toshi, got married and was led into a cult, yes, a real life CULT, and left the band and turned over all his monies and music rights to the Cult. The "LAST LIVE" concert was their last Concert together played at the Tokyo Dome on Dec. 31, 1997. They were Japans Biggest Musical Act of all time (before Babymetal). About 5 months after this concert, one of the lead guitarists Hide (said like 'Hee Day') after a night of heavy drinking, was found dead, hanging by the neck attached to a door knob. Officially sited as a "Suicide", most family, friends and fans believe it to have been an accident as Hide was known to use this pain relieving technique often to relieve upper back and neck pain. By 2010, Toshi had gotten out of the Cult and sued them for his music rights back and he got back together with the group to restart X-Japan and they are still together today. On a side note, the neck corset used in the Babymetal video "Head Banger" and throughout the "Legend 1997" Concert is said to be a tribute to Yoshiki, the Drummer for X-Japan who headbanged so hard that he severely injured his neck and was required by doctors to wear the neck brace. You can see him wearing it in this video! X-Japan is to Japanese Metal what Black Sabbath is to Western Metal!! Thanks for the Reaction!!
^ What this guy said 😆 I couldn't have put it any better myself, & I've been listening to them here in the states since the 90's. X-Japan is one of my favorite bands of all time, & the only reason they're not as popular here as they are everywhere else is the fact that they're not a dominate English speaking band, & I think that's stupid. 😆
@@sonnykane4595 to be fair the one at fault is Toshi the vocalist's wife, the wife was in the cult in the first place and slowly corrupting Toshi and take all his money to fund the cult that his wife was in, even worse the wife and the founder of the cult are a good friend and having an affair. So the poor guy not only being robbed of his wealth from his hardwork by his wife to fund a cult, the wive also cheating on him with the founder of the cult.
If i remember correctly, X Japan was original named "X" and they were signed by an American records company. During that time there was a same named punk band in US so they renamed as "X Japan". But for some reason they didn't manage to get album release in West during the time.
This concert was called "The Last Live" in 1997 because the band would be disbanded after 10 years. It can also be considered the last time the guitarist Hideto Matsumoto (a.k.a. Hide) > was seen live. Halfyear thereafter he was found hanging on a door handle with a towel. Authorities say it was suicide, but friends and families say that it might be an accident due to pain relief practices X Japan members did for their upper backs. More than 50.000 people attended his funeral. May he rest in Peace.
This performance was at the Tokyo Dome in December 1997. This is the same month SU-METAL was born. X was the only J-metal band to sell out the Tokyo Dome (multiple times) until BABYMETAL did it in September 2016. During this show, BABYMETAL paid their respects to X in many ways: they gave every audience member a Yoshiki style neckbrace that lit up in unison, SU performed No Rain No Rainbow which is an homage to X's Endless Rain, and they did the "we are" chant at the end. Similarities dont stop there unfortunately. Both BABYMETAL and X had a guitarist die in tragic accidents 😭
X JAPAN is no doubt the most Legendary Hard rock band of Japan. Their epic song: Art of life, 29:00 minutes long, expresses their philosophy. Every rock fan should listen to it once. The lyric all in English. Try it NJ.
Man! Huge fan! New subscriber! X-Japan is amazing! Toshi's voice ... Yoshiki's amazing drums ... and RIP Hide! (pink hair) Such a talent gone too soon!
Rusty Nail is one of their faster songs. Toshi's vocals will make your throat hurt at karaoke(unless you have a high natural key to start with). lol Kurenai(crimson), Endless Rain, X are other great ones to also check out. X/X-Japan(as the are currently called) is STILL ACTIVE. unfortunately Hide(lead guitar/the guy with pink hair and the hearts on his guitar) passed away in an accident. Currently they tour with Luna Sea's lead guitarist Sugizo as his replacement. they were the 1st generation of the Visual-Kei(Japan's hair bands-era). Yoshiki the drummer with the neck brace(injury from too much head banging while drumming). Hide(lead guitar/pink hair) also had a solo career before passing. Hide with Spread Beaver: Pink Spider, Ever Free, Rocket Dive were some of his major songs.
In the 90s I was lucky enough to live near a Japanese book store that also rented out videos. I checked out the recording of the last live and got obsessed with them, hide specifically. Shortly after, he died and broke me and my highschool friends hearts. The whole last live is amazing. Great reaction, glad to see people still discovering them!
This one is more hardrock than other X Japan songs(metal), I recommended their early performance, check out: Vanishing Vision, Blue Blood, Silent Jealousy, Kurenai, Rose Of Pain
X Japan is Japanese musical royalty! Such a huge and epic sound and they’re all legends in their own rights! They’ve had a fascinating, tragic and incredible history from the start. RIP hide! 🖤
The other bands you've reacted to from Japan were all influenced by "X". In Japan there is music BX (before X) and AX (after X). When lead guitarist Hide passed there were fans that commited suicide. It was a big deal. If you go to Queen's TH-cam account, they did a New Year's Eve song with Yoshiki and some other acts. This vid was from Tokyo Dome. By the way they wrote the best power ballads, and had some influence on bands that were big over here in the late 80's early 90's. Endless Rain has inspired a shit load of ballads including BABYMETAL's No Rain No Rainbow. They still tour and are truly one of the "Greats"! As a musician you will appreciate them.
Amazing song, Amazing reaction. X Japan is just one of the best live bands. I will include Babymetal in the same list. A lot of people have already commented on the history of the Band so I will just leave you some of my favorite X Japan songs. Endless Rain from the last live Art of life. ( this one is a 30min song )
X JAPAN THE GODPARENTS OF MODERN JAPANESE METAL MOST AMAZING AND INFLUENTIAL BAND BABYMETAL X JAPAN INFLUENCE THE NECKBRASE THE GONG THE X SIGN WHEN THE GIRLS CROSS THEIR ARMS THE CROUD PARTICIPATION ALSO X JAPAN THE DROMER IS ONE OF THE BEST CLASSICAL PIANO PLAYERS IN THE WORLD AND HE WROTE MOST OF THE SONGS SEE YOU
My favorite songs by X-Japan are "Art of Life", "The Last Song", "Forever Love". Yoshiki, the drummer, piano player, was the brain behind the band and is considered the modern days Amadeus. He's a genius! There is a new Rockumentary (Yoshiki) on Netflix about him
A lot of famous artists says that if X Japan were born on EEUU, they would be the greatest band in the world... They started to sing in english to get outside Japan when Toshi decided to leave the band and the guy with hearts's guitar commited suicide. On 2008 they were part of the Saw IV movie and started with international tours, the video "I.V." from the movie, was recorded on Madison Square and Yoshiki (drummer, leader and pianist) actually lives in LA They was very very well received by the press in EEUU and there's an documental called "We are X" where Gene Simmons, Marilyn Manson and many others appears as friends of Yoshiki, even Yoshiki talks about his friendship with Michael Jackson The babymetal scream "We areeee babymetal" is based on X Japan, they use to scream "WE AREEEE" and the audience complemente it with "X!!!"
They're the best man! Liked and subscribed for more X-Japan! Kurenai from this same show, is a f*ckin absolute banger and Endless Rain is pure emotion. Those two would be my suggestions. They're the band which set the standards for all these new generation Japanese rock/metal bands. The neck brace is literally to prevent Yoshiki from seriously damaging his body while uncontrollable smashing the drums. If I'm not wrong, Babymetal girls (or was it BandMaid? 🤔) once used neck braces in a concert as a tribute to them. Oh, and talking about Yoshiki, he's a beast on drums, but turns into an angel when he plays the piano (as you can see in Endless Rain).
I watched “X” on TV for the first time when I was 14 years old but I couldn't understand the meaning of the lyrics. 20 years later, I finally learned the meaning of the lyrics through various life events. However, the original members Hide and Taiji have disappeared from the world. I want to go back to 14 years old and listen to the wonderful song of that time again. Can somebody prepare me for a time machine?
Yoshiki is on Solo now.. check out his youtube channel..his a Classical Pianist..his touring all over the world and some projects..the late Stan lee love him
Yoshiki (drummer and classical trained pianist) and one of the founders of the band recently posted their song "Weekend" from a live gig in 2018. No audience so don't know what that was about, rehearsal maybe (if someone know let me know). They still sounded great and like the part where Yoshiki comes off the drums to play the piano during breakdown then back to bashing on drums. Here is the link to that: th-cam.com/video/P5UNOPHfVN8/w-d-xo.html
X Japan's concert had to be cancelled due to a typhoon. They decided that the band would perform a “no audience concert” with complete stage effects and crew which was broadcast to an audience of over 1 million viewers.
X-Japan´s history it´s so hard that sounds fiction. Just need to see the documental "We Are X" by Stephen Kijak from 2016. There´s so much to tell about this band and there´s so much pain and losses and still beauty and life than words are not enought The trailer is here. th-cam.com/video/YMw1ObQuhNk/w-d-xo.html But there´s also "somewhere" in TH-cam the full documentary (easy to find really) For Japan´s Music, X-Japan is like the Beatles or the Stones in UK. The society in Japan in those times was very conservative and X-Japan breaks in it like a storm. Just think... Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane made a comic based on the drummer (founder and leader) of this Band. No need more words
There are some legendary bands in japan coming from 80-90s era, one of them is X Japan. The other bands that I love are L'arc-en-Ciel (this band has made a world tour and even reached Madison Square), and also a band called Glay which is also a legend (I recommend you to check out their song titled "Ashes 1969")
Good one - all the Japanese bands you've seen are influenced by X Japan, none more so than BABYMETAL who pay homage in many ways (the use of a neck brace in many of their performances being an obvious one) during their shows and in at least a couple of their songs. Since they reformed I believe X Japan have played at least once with a hologram of the guitarist with the pink hair (Hide) who died not so long after this 'Last Live' (so called because they were splitting up as the singer had been led into a cult by his wife, so this was to be their last live performance). This was at Tokyo Dome - I think they sold it out (55,000 people) something like 18 times. I think I read somewhere they were banned because they wold get the whole crowd to jump at the same time and there was a threat of an earthquake as a result ... I don't know if that is true, like I said, I think I read it somewhere - I can't have imagined it.
I am pretty sure the X jump was not capable of causing an earthquake as such. What I have read is they were banned from one of the larger Tokyo venues at one point because they could not promise the whole crowd would not jump in unison during X, which had been known to set off earthquake detection equipment previously.
@@PurpleDracos + the possible damage it can cause, see also the bridge effect (several bridges collaped due to soldiers marching through them which created a resonance; same thing when 55,000 people jump up and down in the same rhythm at the same time). Since then they were "forced" to open stadiums, like the Yokohama one with 70,000 people sold out twice :DD
Dude you could do an entire series is videos about X-Japan & you would never be upset. Kurinai, X, Art of Life, IV...etc they're lost goes on & it's all good.
Mate, Gene Simmonds himself said if these guys would have been western, they would, without a doubt, have been THE greatest band the world has ever seen. Just listen to their magnum opus, "Art Of Life" live back in 1993. It goes to show just how stupid good these guys were. Shame Hide (their main guitarist) died and Toshi (their singer) got sucked into a cult, beacuse I think they would have been HUGE nowadays if they kept going as they were doing back in the day.
X JAPAN is a legendary band in the Japanese rock scene. The song was released in 1994. The band's guitarist and early bassist have already passed away. They've gone through so many twists and turns that it's like a movie story. They disbanded in 1997 but reunited in 2008 and toured the world from 2009 to 2011 (A dead guitarist is participating as a video.). xjapan 2009-2011 world tour trailer th-cam.com/video/c2DP41vP-zs/w-d-xo.html
You think this is sick, try Art of Life. It’s basically the Japanese equivalent of 2112 with all the vocal and performance theatrics you’d expect. Super long jam at 30 minutes. If you want something shorter, I’d say either Kurenai or X (specifically the one from 2010 when Taiji reunited with the band). I’ll spare the history lesson since the rest of the comments section has already done that for me.
Please do reaction videos to Rose of Pain and Jade. It's hard to recommend just a couple of songs to react to because pretty much all their songs are awesome. 😭
I don't think any other band from Japan can beat X Japan, and as a fan I would even say the world. If you want to listen to another crazy metal band from japan I would recommend Sex Machineguns, the song Highspeed Samurai.
Here's the ultimate X Japan BEST OF: - Endless Rain - Last Live 1996 (their most emotional ballad) - Kurenai - Last Live 1996 (their speed metal show off) - Art Of Live - 1993 (their 30 minute magnum opus)
How about doing a reaction to Ningen Isu. Another Japanese rock/metal power trio that's been around for a long time. I only just discovered them and digging their song "Namahage". The breakdown and solo part is just fire. I wish it was longer. Here is a link to a live performance. Great quality on the video and sound. th-cam.com/video/rUvKusi05MA/w-d-xo.html
On a lighter note how about reacting to Leo from Frog Leap Studios. He makes rock/metal covers of all types of popular songs. Very talented. Usually plays all the instruments and records his own videos. He even manages to metal out Jonas Brother's "Sucker" and the Pokemon theme song. Here is his cover of Adele's "Hello" I think it's better than the original. th-cam.com/video/LtQUJMBH8uE/w-d-xo.html
Please, could you put your intro on the same volume that your voice next time? You seem like an audiophile so it shouldn't be hard to make that happen. ;)

I am pretty sure the X jump was not capable of causing an earthquake as such. What I have read is they were banned from one of the larger Tokyo venues at one point because they could not promise the whole crowd would not jump in unison during X, which had been known to set off earthquake detection equipment previously.
@@PurpleDracos That was probably it (it is a long time since I read it and I couldn't recall the details) - and I think it was Tokyo Dome.
Please react to X JAPAN - kurenai 紅、DAHLIA and more.

X japan returns 1993
Mate, Gene Simmonds himself said if these guys would have been western, they would, without a doubt, have been THE greatest band the world has ever seen.
Just listen to their magnum opus, "Art Of Life" live back in 1993. It goes to show just how stupid good these guys were. Shame Hide (their main guitarist) died and Toshi (their singer) got sucked into a cult, beacuse I think they would have been HUGE nowadays if they kept going as they were doing back in the day.
X Japan, such an amazing bad. my favorite metal band, worldwide, ever.
More!!! Art of Life or Kurenai
Please do reaction videos to Rose of Pain and Jade. It's hard to recommend just a couple of songs to react to because pretty much all their songs are awesome. 😭
Another song - “Weekend” is recommand to react!! And I think the best version of Weekend is from “Live 1990”. Please react! 🙏🏻
I don't think any other band from Japan can beat X Japan, and as a fan I would even say the world.
If you want to listen to another crazy metal band from japan I would recommend Sex Machineguns, the song Highspeed Samurai.
Wtf that’s gotta be 60,000 people
X太多好聽的歌,就不一一介紹,介紹你聽這個版本的ART OF LIFE,聽聽主唱的發揮 th-cam.com/video/vo7G4cTWsmI/w-d-xo.html 也推薦聽完整三十多分鐘版本
Here's the ultimate X Japan BEST OF:
- Endless Rain - Last Live 1996 (their most emotional ballad)
- Kurenai - Last Live 1996 (their speed metal show off)
- Art Of Live - 1993 (their 30 minute magnum opus)
8:10 / I.V music theme the film SAW 4
Please React to X-Japan Art of Life ( Tokyo Dome 31 Dec )
Give DREAMCATCHER a try! U will get a nice treat
You fucking rule! More content please lol
You got it shagger! 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻
React to kurenai!!!
Try Kurenai, Silent Jealousy
Tokyo Dome
Please check their 1986-1993
On a lighter note how about reacting to Leo from Frog Leap Studios.
THIS IS THERE LAST LIVE
Please, could you put your intro on the same volume that your voice next time? You seem like an audiophile so it shouldn't be hard to make that happen. ;)
Listen to Art of Life.
I hope it'll change your life as it changed mine.
"She" is a man 😉😉😉
"Thats one hell of a hair" ohh... you have no idea. (look at their earlier pictures and shows)
