  • Lennox Claudius Lewis, CM, CBE, (born 2 September 1965) is a retired boxer and the last undisputed world heavyweight champion. He holds dual British and Canadian citizenship. As an amateur boxer he won a gold medal representing Canada at the 1988 Olympic Games after defeating future heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe in the final. Lewis became undisputed champion by defeating Evander Holyfield, successfully unifiying his WBC title with Holyfield's WBA and IBF titles. With that victory, he was also awarded the vacant IBO title. Lewis is regarded by many as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, and also as the greatest British fighter of all time.
    Lewis turned professional in 1989, winning his first 21 fights before knocking out Donovan Ruddock in 1992 to take over the number one position in the WBC rankings. He was declared WBC heavyweight champion in December 1992 after Riddick Bowe was stripped of the title. Lewis lost the title to Oliver McCall in 1994, but defeated McCall in a rematch to win the vacant WBC title in 1997. He defended the title four times before becoming the lineal champion when he beat Shannon Briggs by knockout in 1998. Lewis became undisputed champion when he defeated Evander Holyfield in 1999. In 2001 Lewis was knocked out by Hasim Rahman, but again avenged the defeat in a rematch later in the year to regain his titles. After defeating Mike Tyson by knockout in 2002 and stopping Vitali Klitschko in 2003, Lewis retired from boxing in 2004, having beaten every opponent he ever faced in professional competition.
    Lewis is 6 feet 5 inches (196 centimetres) tall and has an 84-inch (213 cm) reach. During his boxing prime, he weighed about 245 pounds (111 kg). Lewis often referred to himself as "the pugilist specialist."

    Nothing but admiration for Fortune! He fought with tremendous courage and strength but, as George Foreman said after Lewis' defeat of Tyson, Lewis is no doubt the best heavyweight of all time. He defeated every opponent he ever faced.

    3 Uppercuts from hell and still just bounces up, what a tough guy, one guys 6 foot 5 and the other is 5 foot 9, what chance did he have?
    It's like watching Mike Tyson's punch out on the nes.

    I cannot be 100% certain only Lennox Lewis can answer this for me I took my son Louie to Highbury on the 10th of February 2001 Arsenal v Ipswich and I’m certain that we were sat next to Lennox Lewis watching the game for my boys 10th birthday we won 1-0 and Henry scored for Arsenal I remember picking my boy up so he see the goal I missed it but made sure that my son saw Henry bang a great goal in for us I’ve debated ever since the game and I would only believe it iff Lennox said that he was not at the game and that would be the only way I would believe that I was not sat next to Lennox Lewis have a good en and up the Arsenal Stevie

    Lennox is so lazy and he was leaning on fortune. Then it was a short stoppage imo . Not like Justin would win. Funny how a lot of lewis' ko are holding the opponents head down then uppercut. That is technically illegal btw

    I admire Justine Fortune for this fight for his courage and he hit Lennox a couple of good punches but you never heard positive reaction from these dumb commentators at least give some credit to a small guy fighting a giant.

    This guy would have done well in the Liston/ Marciano era.....being 5'9 was a problem here.This fight also proves when you fight a champion you always bring your A game,this is the best fortunes ever looked too bad it was Lennox he had to defeat!

    • @petermontgomery8707
      @petermontgomery8707 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liston had a longer reach than lennox and hit harder

    • @UncleTermite
      @UncleTermite 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petermontgomery8707 Liston was about 4 inches shorter and Lewis reach was an actual 84 ,so no . Who hit harder would go to the guy who knocked out bigger guys . In this case Liston fought guys on average of 200 pounds , Lewis fought guys averaging 230 . I would also note Liston was in the time when horse hair small gloves were used ,these would have half the padding as modern gloves . As big as Lewis was ,Liston had a severe size advantage almost always fighting guys under his own height and weight that looked like two separate weight classes . He defeated Chuck Wepner and Cleveland Williams , Lewis defeated Vitali Klitschko and big units like Golota in one round , also stopping Mike Tyson though past his prime . These guys had chins though .

    All respect to Fortune but comparing him to a prime Tyson is very silly.Tyson in his prime was a Train hitting a car most of the times.He was fantastic offencive and had great defencive skills to..He would in my view beat Lennox if both had fought eachother in their prime..Lennox got Mike way pass his prime.Tyson was not in shape weighing Close to 240 pounds fightnight.Go figure out the rest..

    • @UncleTermite
      @UncleTermite 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jerven200 I don't think comparing him to Tyson is saying he is Tyson just similar characteristics....I would agree hes very Tyson like in this fight,of course NOT Tyson....I also think this fight proves Tyson would have indeed beat Lewis.

    • @UncleTermite
      @UncleTermite 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Lennox nearly was k.od by Briggs in round one and struggled with Bruno....Tyson is this guy x5, if you really think Tyson of around this time had been there and not been favored based on this guys ability to even just miss Lewis...you are wrong.,Tyson also won the first few rounds with Lewis way past his peak...Tyson of 80's or mid 90's k.os him 4 out of 5 times...do the math.

    • @UncleTermite
      @UncleTermite 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I don't pay attention to judges I go by reality what I see on ACTUAL footage.Clearly Tyson wins the 1st 2 rnds at least. Most ppl actually think Spinks won legit over Holmes rematch...it doesn't make it real though.Lennox was wobbled in rnd one with Briggs before the bell...that's also on video footage would you like to change that too? lol
      lets also pretend Tyson didn't beat better fighters after Douglas like Bruno and Ruddock...we'll PRETEND since that's what you do. smh

    • @UncleTermite
      @UncleTermite 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** did you not see Tucker beat Douglas? Are you saying douglas is better than Ruddock?...lol

      I liked lewis but I agree it the same with the klitchkos. Giants fighting smaller men 90% of the time. If top welterweights fought lightweights 90% of the time it was be slaughter. The heavyweight division is a broken division. They should split it from 195 to 225 and make a separate division for the giants or just merge them with super heavys. Then the heavyweight division would make a comeback

      There are giants out there that have no heart, skill, or the will that Lenox had. A man like him always finds a way to prevail. You take the genes out and nobody is who he is. Your comment makes no sense.
