TH-cam is where I spend the most time by far in terms of "social media" platforms.

Social media is a cancerous form of communication overall. Even newer attempt like Substack (Twitter + Medium) stagnated pretty quickly. It’s in large part due to the organic form of communication being censored, over-curated by moderators and algorithms within the large companies that facilitate the communications.
TH-cam even fails a bit, missing comments, shadow bans, etc. YT live streams are enjoyable still because you get that direct interaction experience. If that flicker of enjoyment disappeared it would go the same way I think.

Live streams are enjoyable provided you don't have the same issues with comments!

@@thebobdavispodcasts9768 I wish it was insight, but sadly it’s more of direct experience -I’ve spent considerable time on Facebook and Twitter, before quitting cold turkey like an addiction. You know with age you hold on to a certain amount of nostalgia for say 2004 internet bullet boards and really more room for authentic human interactions not guided by algorithms and all sorts of people just trying to get a digital laugh and/or Arnold Schwarzenegger flash soundboards on Ebaumsworlds while playing early online video games.
Now the online sphere is just a world of weaponized language always at the ready, algorithms constantly setting two distinctly hardened opinions into little comment section war sandboxes to waste time and social energy in bad faith. That bad faith ultimately manifests in the real world, the chasm between Tumblerites, Redditors and 4/8channers that overlapped with the growing social media platforms.
Also, “conspiracy”, larger scale I think what happened to the Smith-Mundt act under the NDAA change in 2012 has had rippling consequences of not only propaganda actors but people I would consider “repeaters”, so someone sets up a peaceful conversation on a sensitive topic and then immediately someone comes in with the digital equivalent of a loud speaker and turns threads hostile. It’s as if the algorithms deliberately pull a hostile voice in to ruin good faith conversations.

Twitter is going downhill as well, esp. the ForYou section, which is full of engagement farming drivel from premium accounts. Most of the attention you get there these days is non-organic.

I mean sometimes the old school basic way of doing things is actually the best most effective way this concept that you need a computer with some complicated data sifting program running all the time is bullshit you don't really need that not in a small business environment.
What that is is the tech industry and the data harvesters trying to sell you a service that you really don't need but they have everybody so convinced that they need it because they're again the logic of the small guy that goes into business particularly one that never had any business experience previously they believe that in order to make it you need to do with the big boys do but the problem is is most of those folks they're good people but they don't understand even the basics of cost accounting everything that you add to the behind the scenes of your business costs you money and in order to justify paying that money it has to make you money the minute you implement it if it does not you were losing money it is actually a drain on your business You're better off to reinvest that money into making obvious improvements if not making expansion to your business Data harvesting should be one of the last things on your list as a small business upstart I don't care what the fucking gurus say.

Ha Thaye what Facebook gets for optimising their app for negative experiences. Yeah it may hook you in in the moment but it will leave people with an overall plan and intention to eventually leave the platform and stop using it.
If they were not so greedy and option sized it for high quality content and feel good content maybe people would come back to them.

Well social media itself I think plateaued in terms of Facebook like format pretty much in the middle of last decade that I would say the minute that Grandma and Grandpa and your 50 plus aunt got involved with Facebook you know what maybe 2008 maybe 2011 okay it was going downhill.
And I don't say that to be a dick head I mean it's literally a known fact when older people pile on to a platform that platform falls out of favor let's face it The internet is something that is used driven in fact I would say it's probably about the last thing that would be youth-driven.
Oh there's a business factor no kidding and there is technically something for everyone but social media in general was really geared towards the 20-somethings on downward and that was pre 2007 since then Grandma and Grandpa have decided to get involved on Facebook which is fine I mean for the most part that's fine but it's still eats away at the cool factor if you get my drift it's a little on a superficial side but then again so is social media.
And of course most of the negative engagement over there happens to be a lot of this generational bullshit you know how the boomers are better and back in the '70s and all this other garbage and then if you have any older co-workers on your Facebook you'd better put them on snooze because everyday all day they're going to be on there posting nonsensical memes about the younger generations yet we're the ones supposed to be addicted to our fucking phones and social media except I've noticed that there's a lot of boomers and Gen xers that's constantly on there all day everyday dick wagging about those younger than them I mean the hypocrisy is amazing.
