Ethnic bigotry is a strong factor in Nigeria. I can tell you that for sure. I am also Yoruba married to an Igbo lady. We struggled with acceptance from my elder sister, my parents are late. On the side of my wife , we struggled with acceptance from her elder sister, my wife's mother is late. My sister in law blames any problem in the marriage on the fact that my wife rejected marrying an Ogbo man. But troubles don't know ethnicity. I have resorted to prayers. I don't involve my family in my marital issues. Whether you are married to your tribe or not , if you want your marriage to endure as much as possible avoid involving your family members in your marital issues.

      Good bless you sir.
One of my friends from Anambra state married a Yoruba lady. His family fought him vehemently over his decision, on his wife's part, her family fought her more severely.
Even at a point the guy business problem and even went to jail, but the lady never gave up. I remember always encouraging her, telling her to ignore inlaws abuse, etc.
The guy came out, bounced back and today they're doing wonderfully well. He treats her like a queen.
Tribal sentiment is a very big problem in Nigeria.

Next time, consider marrying within your tribe. In a nation where tribalism is rampant and intertribal marriages, especially between Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa/Fulani, are often discouraged, you've placed yourself and your family in a challenging position. Such unions are rare, comprising only 0.03% of the population, and may face difficulties, especially if Nigeria fractures along ethnolinguistic lines in the future. It's your choice but be prepared for the potential consequences.

I don't tow your line, sir. There is nothing wrong with marrying outside one's tribe. Every marriage has its peculiar challenge, whether intra or inter tribal . Aside from the issue of acceptance from elder sisters on both sides, my marriage is heaven of on earth. We are doing great. My father inlaw is alive and very hospitable.

In Zimbabwe we don't refund the bride's price. You make someone's daughter have 3 children for you and after divorce there is no such a thing as refund. You don't mess my daughter or my sister and expect to get a refund of the bride's price.

Barr Neze, you're probably right. The educational gap and exposure between the duo is just too wide. Secondly, money, and the ephemeral fame attached to these celebrity footballers is another problem. Unfortunately, no consideration was given by the couple to the wellbeing and mental wellness of the children who are caught up in this mess. That for me is the real tragedy. I hope the children heal from all the trauma.

Proverbs 1:32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. Tribalism is one enemy to their marriage, secondly the financial influence and lastly family influence. I am Igbo married to Yoruba, they don't like me because of my tribe, when my husband started making money, they went as far as arranging a wife for him and I was not aware but the marriage failed. Up till now, they're still fighting diabolical, but God has been seeing me through. So I know what I'm saying. That lady is humble to have married him for who he is, and go to that length

When the kids are small, its better that the mother- in- law comes in to take care of the children especially if the lady is working rather than employ a nanny or house girl who will come and bewitch the children. The woman will be comfortable with her mother/ or her husband's mum looking after those children.

There is nothing wrong in a mother-in-law living with her son's/daughter's family, especially when she(mother-in-law) is assisting the family. I want to believe that Ezinne's mother was taking care of her grandsons when her daughter and son-in-law were busy with soccer assignments as football agent and footballer respectively. I think immaturity of heart caused the man to disrespect his marriage, as well as welcome third party involvement. As soon as he got the breakthrough in Europe, he started feeling and acting like he did not need his wife any more. He forgot where he was coming from, and how Ezinne met him. He definitely forgot that they came this far as a result of plans they had, and executed together...

Never marry down because if you help build a man up and he has no character, he will disgrace you especially if he becomes rich. His true character will indeed come out in full force. Kayode did not realise he should have cherished his wife and his blessings would continue. He who finds a good wife finds a good thing, but if you mistreat her (the blessing God has given you) then you will surely regret it and be cursed for life. A man who fails at marriage has failed in life.🤷🏽‍♀️

But the wickedness in the heart of many men has changed that natural order. A mother inlaw from the woman's side is never the the problem (in most cases)
Is mother inlaw from the man's side that is always a big problem. A woman's mother will always want the marriage to work because this mummies have the believe that if anything goes wrong their daughter will be at the loosing side (especially the Igbo culture), a woman's mother will always advise her to be taking rubbish from her husband just for the marriage to work but in the man's side, their mothers knows that if eventually anything goes wrong their son is in the better side, he is a man after all so most times self they instigate the divorce.
