Apologize for the rambling and the low sound in places. I should have zoomed in on what I was working on too. I hope this helps some of you.

Is the window supposed to go down a mm or 2 when you open the door and back up when it’s closed like other cars with the coupe/conv style windows without the window frame? I picked up a higher mile one and not sure if it’s working the way it’s designed

Great video, we just had one of the cables snap on ours. Did you mention where you got your replacement regulator? Like you, I can only find the rear ones online.

I'm hoping a 3rd party vendor starts making them before I have to buy another.

      Where did you buy it?
Driver side part is so expensive.

@@tassoumaate3293 if I remember right, I bought it used on Ebay. Not sure why they didn't make more of the driver's side.

my master switch operates the other 3 windows. but does not operate drivers window up or down. i hear no sound, buzzes.nothing
how do i know its the regulator, motor or switch?
do you have an assumption based upon my description.
how did you know about yours

sorry for slow reply. I actually heard the cable snap. I could hear the motor turning, but the window didn't move. My passenger switch is completely bad, so maybe it's your switch?

Is it possible to replace the regulator without removing the window? the videos for camry show replacement with window taped to frame.

    • @FixitMys3lf

I've done a Camry too and you can tape the window to the frame....the Lexus doesn't have a frame, so that makes it hard to tape it :)

Would it be safe to wedge this window in the up position temporarily until I can get this fixed? I have the same car and problem but I don't want to break the glass if I shut the door. Can you share some advice please? Thanks. Btw, I've searched EVERYWHERE online to purchase both motor and lift kit but having no luck. Seems the mechanic shop down the street from me only charges $300 to fix the whole thing, but trying to do it myself to save money.

Brian...that's exactly what I did for a few days while I waited for my replacement regulator. Since it doesn't have a frame it was a challenge, but I put tape at the base of the window on the weather strip and around the front on the speaker plastic and onto the glass on the outside.

My 97' Lexus ES 300 .. I can't open my driver door. How do I remove the door panel then??? Please any suggestions are appreciated :(

    • @FixitMys3lf
      @FixitMys3lf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'll bet you'll have to remove more interior body panels to give you enough room to be able to pull the panel around the outside edges.
Is your goal to fix the door so you can open it? If mine were stuck and I had high confidence I'd be able to fix the issue with open and closing, I'd buy another panel off eBay - I see mine for $50 in auctions now - and then get the existing panel off by removing what I could and then maybe take the rest in pieces by cutting it away if I had to. But I'd make damn sure I'd be able to get to the problem that's keeping it from opening before I did it.
I can see why you are having a hard time though...it would be tough to get enough room to get it off if the door doesn't open

D Cloes thank you for responding. I must have posted 20 times in different areas on the web & you are the only person who took the time to help. I don't know what is wrong with my door. It is impossible for me to even look without removing my panel. Tomorrow I will have to start cutting the panel off and order a new one. I'm upset that there isn't an emergency release or another way to fix this without such a drastic measure.

Just had another thought. Locksmiths are masters at getting locked doors open and they have tools that can reach down inside the door. Before you cut into yours, I'd call around to locksmiths and see if they think they can get it open.
Also, removing the shroud around the inside door latch, it gives you access to the levers that release the door, which may help get it open.

D Cloes I thought about a locksmith and in the end? It's significantly cheaper buying another panel! :/ This car is my only means of travel so you can imagine climbing over the console in a skirt is getting OLD QUICK!

Phyllis, I did some googling and apparently this isn't that rare in our cars. There are rods that run from the lever you pull inside to open the door and those rods are held along the door by plastic clips that break. If you haven't cut your panel in pieces yet, watch my video where I remove the plastic the goes around the lever you pull to open the door form the inside. After you remove the plastic that goes around it, remove the lever from the door and pull the rod with pliers to see if you can get the door to open.
Good news is the plastic clips., if they are the problem are cheap to replace.

Two things wrong with this video. 1. speaker cover has a pin on top, pop that out first before lifting it up. 2. Door switch has a clip in the back so pop the front, else u a breaking it.

@ 27:36 I say you don't know how long it's going to last. Now I do. It lasted just over 2.5 years until the used replacement regulator broke, so have to do this repair again. A new regulator without a motor cost 2x as much as a used with a motor. Not sure if I'll go used again.
