Yep. Me too. The following of the US team in the states was huge. It just caught momentum as the team kept winning. Not sure I like penalty kicks to decide the champion but it is what it is. A lot of talk about illegal goal tending move. Sure, but look at the game. There were several illegal moves on both teams. Either way...the save and then the goal to win it....fun to watch.
There was a lot of screaming and jumping up and down and my parents were like are you crazy? 😂😂😂 Now I’m the mom and when my kids have those moments, I get it totally.

Goalkeeper has to try to go early at least 1 time. At worst they just reshoot (even if it score ^^) But this was so flagrant. 2 meter in front of the line before the opponent touch the ball

As a chinese football lover I still fell bad for those steel-roses. They lost the world champion because of the ref's mistake:( Soon we will meet USA again in the quarterfinal. Althought we seem to be the underdog, but we will fight for glory! Go roses! Go China!

Yes Scurry cheated... she even ADMITTED IT AFTER THE GAME. We didn't here about any controversy here in the US, but the Chinese newspapers were livid. Scurry said, "I came out [early] to see what she was going to give you," Scurry said. "If she calls the kick back, fine. But she didn't, so I was going to stay with it."

She knew it was illegal. They did a documentary and she said if the ref told her to redo the penalty she had no problem but she took the risk.

When Scurry blocked that penalty kick, and gave them a chance to win with Chastain kicking in the winner. That is in the top 5 all time sports moments that I witnessed in my lifetime.

Yes scurry did come off the line. But in 99 in the women's League I don't think that was uncommon. Even if it was illegal. So... I guess you could blame the refs but at least the refs were consistent.

Scurry totally cheated and gave the US the victory (I'm not complaining). Of course, Americans who were completely ignorant of the game at the time, ignored the fact that the goalie was the real hero, made a big deal about someone making a simple PK, and were impressed by a sports bra.

The ‘99 cup was just fun to follow with it being in the US. The documentary “Dare to dream: The story of the US Women’s soccer team” is a good watch. 2005 I believe.
To all you folks out there who keep complaining about Scurry leaving the line early: yes, she did it, and she admitted it in a documentary that came out 2 years ago. But, guess what? There isn't a darn thing that you can do about it. I suggest boycotting FIFA altogether if you're going to be so uptight about it. Otherwise, your complaints will only continue to fall on deaf ears.
you're right in that the 1999 results won't change, but this is not about getting fifa to change history, people that watch youtube are not "deaf ears", glad clear footage like this exists, those that were too young to watch or are not familiar with the rules especially should know that what scurry did was illegal

Back in 1999, we didn't have Internet access to watch this game, and facing a 21-inch HITACHI TV, I didnt notice US's key save was illegal at that moment. I just felt sad,,, because that China women's team was the best ever and suspecting that Team China may have no second chance in the future considering for China's poor development of professional football environment.
Today, I can repeatedly watch this video. This "cheated" save can be clearly seen, the (women?) referee's mistake has been magnified ever.
FIFTEEN Years have passed, after being through entirely different development track (US develops the best Women's professional football environment and China is still struggling to get recovery from the corrupted football field),
China & USA will meet again in World Cup field.
Anyway, Look forward to watching a fantastic game without too many disputes.

I agree scurry left early but so did chinas goalie on us winning pk, not as early or as far forward but still did. So if china gets redo i guess us does, which since they scored why lol. Basically 90% of pk goalies move early. It doesnt matter if its 2yrds or 6in, goalie moves early, no mater how far foward redo it then, even if its a goal. If fans want a redo, pretty much it will be almost every damn pk which is why throw this bs out n finish the game on how its played, on the field as a team, not 1v1.

There was no rule for women soccer for a goalie to leave her line back in the day. She would have saved it any way
"No rule". So a keeper could just run out and tackle the penalty taker, right? The goal keeper said herself that she was pushing the rules to see if she could get away with it.
"She would have saved it anyway." Ah, ok then. Not everyone can see alternate realties, but if you have that power, fair enough.
