I still remember going to the local sports bar to watch the '99 cup final with my father and brother. I was ten.
And you've been a fan of Womens soccer ever since right ?
I've seen guys taking off their shirts or pulling it over their head after a goal but the way Brandi Chastain did was fantastic. Just ripping it off. xD
Lol
She could have been original and not done w “the guys do” 🤷🏻♂️
Agreed. I remember thinking, "Was the damn shirt velcroed?"🤣
I love the fact that American sports has an Iconic Bra. :-)
I was at the Semi Final match between the USA and Brazil. We were a little late arriving and missed the kick off and first goal by Cindy Parlow by about a minute. What a game. What a time to be a soccer fan.
Mercy Akide :) what a skilled and beautiful soccer player.. :)
8:40 Old time when nobody cared if goalkeeper was moving forward 2m in front of the line ^_^
Oh no! You weren't on the line when she shot the ball! You get a YELLOW card! They're gonna take it again now...
It was just lousy officiating :-)
Because back then there was different rules and you could come out
@@ryanflick473 "Back then" was 1905 mate
that image is so iconic
A beautiful documentary. Loved it
I was there at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for the Women's World Cup Final. It was hotter than hell that day. And I even had my face painted, making it even worse! Sadly, the penalties were taken at the opposite end of where my dad and I were sitting. We got the tickets before USA's match with Germany so we didn't know who'd be in the Final and when USA went behind to Germany, I was concerned. It was an overall phenomenal experience, though.
i was glued to the telly the whole finals game... wheeew 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Mia Ham and Brandi Chastain are forever my favorites
mia hamm is the beter woman soccer player ever
Mia Hamm, and Wambach.
Do you play soccer
Brandi Chastain's great moment putting off her Jersey, now somedays before the current world cup winner 2019,USA unveils the statue of 1999 heroes
God I remember that like it was yesterday. And you're talking to someone who barely remembers the ACTUAL yesterday! :)
I was 12 when I saw this live. I remember Chastain and her bra were EVERYWHERE after. Classic moment in soccer that's helped the women's game go tremendously.
Now all we gotta do is get that title back USA!
Fav. '99 WWC memory? JP Dellacamera on ABC just yelling "Goal!" on Brandi Chastain's penalty. No words after, the emotion among the team and in the stadium just spoke for itself. Course, I was 8 years old at the time and was so nervous during the shootout I couldn't watch. When my parents yelled "SAVED!" after Scurry's save, I had a feeling the title was ours. Almost recaptured that feeling last year, but sometimes, the footballing gods say "I want this one to win more than the other one"
the most sensational women's world cup ever!
A great win to top off the 90's
A documentary I find very difficult to forget.
7/7/19- USA vs. Netherlands
4 years later.... They won!
I remember following the tournament as an 8-year-old. I watched the final on TV, totally sweating it out, eyes glued to the screen. When Chastain scored I ran out of the house and did my own goal celebration. I thought about pulling my shirt off like she did. I didn't end up pursuing soccer past grade school, but that team had a big impact on me- giving me strong, positive role models to look up to as a young girl.
Fantastic, I love it, bring more cups girls!
I immediately thought the same thing. To answer your question, yes the keeper isn't allowed to leave the line until the player touches the ball. Shot should have been repeated.
this one .. big fan of this group ..
mia , akers, foudy..legends
That Brandi chastain celebration forever will be stuck in my memory 🤍🤍🤍🤍⚽️⚽️ That’s an iconic celebration from the great lady. That tournament was my first tournament. And it was special. Nigeria 🇳🇬 as well we’re magnificent through out the tournament. So many great teams and so many great players that became legends
i just love soccer soooo much i watch videos everyday and practice. i do not play club soccer i play travel and its getting harder everyday, i just have to work to get better! Im glad God gave me this gift.
I hope you still keep the ball on your feet 4 years later. ¿do you?
Players, a ball and two nets. Soccer is the most elemental sport and the most satisfying to watch. A player has to be at the peak of their athleticism to play well.
don't have any memories, cause i didn't watch it. but i'll make sure from now on to watch and have memories, cause women's football seems to have become a very entertaining sport, at least at the higher levels. i'm just sad the national football federation in my country doesn't care that much for it
Ahhh Brandi's penalty was supposed to be the memorable moment the fact she whipped her kit off seems to be more iconic lol, love watching the US ladies kick butt sticks it up the people who don't like them lol
it's not rocket science to figure out why the attendance was the best ever for a women's World Cup........ The United States has one of the best multinational populations in the world
To answer Zoey Suarez's question, FIFA's Laws of the Game change by some degree almost every year. Today, it is generally accepted in the men's game for a PK to be retaken if the goalie comes more than a yd off his/her line and the ball doesn't go into the net. However, this rule might have been different or not even in existence in 1999, or the AR saw it and decided it wasn't far enough off the line to signal a retake.
Good observation.
Oh boy China was really good.
8:40 wasn't the keeper off her line?
I was about to comment it about this. I am surprised referee didn't blow the whistle.
the chinese goalie moved off her line too
no they win reguardless theyre a good team stop hating
yapnop2 They are much stricter nowadays. Clearly should have been a retake.
it would definitley be called these days
I wasn't old enough to watch Mia Hamm play lol
+Mr. Anderson I am and to be fair Miss Abigail Wambach would wipe the floor with mia, and lets not mention Birgit Prinze.......
you didn't miss much Abbey Wambach is a MUCH BETTER player
@@pisceansith6915 shes a disgrace and embarrassment to American women.
What is your favourite 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup memory?
Sissi free kicks. A real Brazilian humble legend.
Dunno was the born yet
Back then when Mia Hamm was the true legend and it was so much fun to see her play. Games seemed faster and better played back then, today nothing but slowfests (w/a few exceptions though).
Hahaha VAR would have called the penalty block for sure, I've never seen a goal keeper off the line like that lol...still great to see USA win thou :)
2024: 25 yrs of this epic event!
@FIFATV Birgit Prinz scored her first World Cup goal in 1995 and Mexico also made their debut in 1999
1:09 Amazing goal!
real power of women, cheers to all women in the world....
Let's hope it will happen again.
USA Vs. Japan
05/7/15
It did!!
Mark C Allen lol
+Mark C Allen It did Japan did not bother showing up, ad that's what happens....you get battered by more than three goals......
***** umad bro?
Mark C Allen it did
Greatest Ever!
Devojke igraju fudbal. Bravo
Best word cup ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🏆🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🇺🇸❤️
All the love and goodwill they earned from Americans for this win. Singlehandedly elevated their brand, becoming the pride of the US after penalty kicks.
Somehow poetic that this year, Rapinoe, who singlehandedly burned all that goodwill from then until now, lost on a penalty kick.
I hope someday Americans can forget these last several years and get back to this kind of love.
I love the Rose Bowl!
Best game Ever 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️❤️🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I came here for the thumbnail
one of the greatest celebrations ever.....im glad US won, but definitely shouldve been a rekick
The American Goalie CLEARLY cheated by stepping up B4 the penalty, and it’s EVIDENTLY CLEAR! @8:40
This world cup had Brazil, Germany, Italy and Mexico in the same group where three teams had to progress to the next round.
Scurry later admitted that she "cheated" by bending the rule when making that save. Surprisingly, the Chinese team did not protest over her violation of the rule. Scurry easily got away with it. If it happened today, the penalty will definitely be retaken.
These guys play better than the current team
Samo za vas. Lis saban
Amazing!
Is it just me, or do these ladies seem to ha e a lot more power on their shots than a lot of players today (women's euros and Concacaf tourneys have served up a lot of dud strikes from the top of the box)
i remenber this game
All does Fanz 😃
Back then where media did not run our lives.
Lol one of those penalties in the final shouldn’t have been allowed. The US keeper was far off her line, when the kick was taken. But hey what do I know
Awesome!!
Ah, 1999! When the US women's team was virtually indistinguishable from the UNC Tar Heels.
Ova ekipa traje godinama naj zanimlji je godina 2005
Samo za vas
8:38 the keeper was waaaaaay off her line. Should've been re taken
Yeah, shocking refereeing to miss that but in the end the best team in the tournament won
That rule wasnt as highly enforced back then
Sve na videlo. Izislo jela kruna sve u pesmama i susija
I watch this when we where diplomats in Accra. I was 11 yrs old and was so proud of the final 8 teams. These women where extremely talented with passion. Not todays low level complainers with no talent. I will agree if the 1999 teams asked for higher payout. Sissi and hamm stole the show
I don't know very much about football, so please excuse my ignorance. I thought that there was a rule about a goalkeeper coming off her line on penalty kicks, which it looks like the U.S. goalkeeper breaks on her penalty kick save. Am I wrong, and if so, could somebody please explain this to me?
The rule didn’t apply back then in 1999, they only implemented the goalkeeper standing in their line around the mid 2000s
I love football
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
From 10:19 to 11:39 a.m. & 12:03 p.m.
Scurry Deserved a yellow card for any penalty kick shooted by China, not a victory
USA women soccer do Amazing ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️Best ❤️❤️❤️
Scury almost got the ball on the penalty spot lol
Lets make Womens Soccer great again.
Please show defence and critical goal savings too, we can not win without proper defence and goal protector. After all this is team work. Thank you
Goalkeeper clear foul on that penalty
I always thought the final was at the la colleesium
How did 8:41 count as a save? Isn't it illegal for the keeper to step forward early to close in the angle of the shot.
Aldous Albores back then it wasn't
A lacarak poznaje sve bescane davni davnina !!!!!
I was 10 when. I saw this
Sissi jogava demais!
Sissi was the first female Brazilian super star, even before Marta !
I’m in 2022 right now comment in my comment section if you are in 2022
Hello! I am doing a mini-documentary on female athletics for Spring Hill College and am curious if I can use part of the Brandi Chastain footage. Of course, I will give you guys credit. Let me know, thanks!
I remember this ....watching on the tele the commentators were so boring....
that penalty kick save was illegal . 8:40 look how far the keeper comes off her line before the ball is kicked . looks about 2 yards
USA cheating like normal
My wig is SNATCHED
Lady Diana at 0.42-0.46
I learned about mia hamm
I still remember that match ☺️ and I thought USA must win 😂😂😂😊😂
I wish i was a coach 😁😉
I’m in school and my famous American is mia hamm
More reason why USA should even pay the women team more than the men team that can't ever win a world cup
Poznanika milion. Prijatelja drugara bas bas drugara. Da nemas nikakve odnose drug. Drugarica
Jele kruna !!!!!!!!!
Sad that Norway🇳🇴 did not make it to the final
They've got some real hotties in the Norway team.🇩🇰👩⚽️
Estaba adelantada la arquera.
I bolnica i ostrog i svasta
oh yeah buddy it happened
I just wish it sparked men in the united states to be interested in the sports but at least we have one team in the world cup this year.
You'd never get this here in the UK. We on the whole just don't support our Womens football, national or international. The Womens soccer league in the US, has really given the US Womens team that High profile needed, to get the big sponsors interested in the Womens game. Check the average attendance of a Womens club game Chelsea women Vs Arsenal Ladies. It's miniscule compared to New York vs LA. 👩⚽️
