      I MAY BE WRONG BUT I MIGHT BE RIGHT(& I think I might be). Jake or anyone who can get in touch with Jason(the guy who can't get his black YJ to Fire up) please get him this message. I'm definitely not a know it all but I think Imight know why it won't start. So please tell Jason to put his key in the ignition and turn it over to the on position/accessories and see if on his dash cluster if his check engine light comes on or lights up. I had the same exact issue as he is having when trying to get my 93YJ 4.0L running. I changed my CPS thinking that was the answer but it didn't change anything. It's an easy fix if the CEL doesn't light up/come on when the key is turned over. It means that he has a bad ECM. It only cost me $25 dollars for a used ECM out of a 94 4cyl from a junkyard. There's a guy on Ebay that will fix it for $70 and he even warranties his work or you can just go to a junkyard and snag one off another Jeep like I did. Especially if he has a 4.0l 6cyl because any 4cyl or 6cyl ECM(computer) will work with a 4.0l 6cyl from 92-95 YJ. I hope this message can get to you Jake or Jason. I figured out it was my problem when I was trying to get my codes that it was throwing by doing the on off on off on. Good luck and If I can help in anyway possible please just message me back and I'll give you my number. I got my 93 Sahara YJ hardtop, AC etc etc for just 500 because of the ECM, it about drove the original owner crazy trying to fix it. Took me 2 days and 40 dollars total to get it going. Hope I'm right and you get this message, just trying to help!

    Get rid of those cap style yoke straps and replace them with u-bolt straps on the yoke!!! As you found out the hard way, those cap style yoke straps are horrible. Just do a quick google for "yoke u bolts" to see what i'm talking about. They are much stronger and will last a lot longer.

    The problem is your "old Jeep" isn't old enough. Get a genuine CJ and then you don't have to worry about any sensors, because the older ones didn't have any. :) The simpler, the better.

    • @coherantbliss3483
      @coherantbliss3483 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed...I poked a SBC 350 in my YJ...was pretty simple and the wiring too. Got rid of most the wires but am using all the stock gauges...I just got the oil and water sensors for a YJ and installed them in the 350. Everything the YJ had works..lights, heater, gauges, wipers etc. And a lot more power and reliability with the SBC..

    • @seanfrank4158
      @seanfrank4158 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well....reliability is debatable. The 4.0L motor is one of the best out there. Its at least as reliable as the Chevy 350. The V8 has more power for sure....but then you run the risk of finding the weak link in the drive train. That Dana 35 isn't terribly stout.....

    Jason, If you are going to replace the crank sensor. Do not use an aftermarket sensor. I just replaced my daughter's in a 1999 Wrangler with an aftermarket sensor and had to switch to the OEM sensor within a week. With the OEM sensor installed, the jeep has been working just fine. My 2 cents... Good luck I hope you see this post in time...

    I could watch you work on Jade forever (and hopefully she'll outlast that, even!) and am a fan of YT repair videos. It gives me hope that one day I can work on Ruby Red (her name kind of grew over the weekend - long story) but all the electronic/computer stuff on a 2018 scares me. You're right about the rust, though. My daughter's Caliber (Cali) turned 10 last month, and the rust is really starting to show. She's the original owner and thankfully, it has lifetime powertrain. Sadly, it'll rust off the frame before the powertrain gives out thanks to NE Ohio and Buffalo winters. I'm a stickler about washing my vehicles all winter long, just to prolong the devastation that salt makes. They are now using a beet juice mixture here, and I'm curious as to how it will react with steel long term. Maybe Ruby Red will outlast the inevitable rust that's yet to come? Hugs

    Wrong u-joint Jake! They should never have any side movement in the yoke!

  • @MinecraftMgalekgolo
    @MinecraftMgalekgolo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If those u joint straps keep giving you trouble consider drilling out the holes in the yoke to 5/16 and using a U bolt to hold the U joint in. You probably won't need it for the front axle but it definitely helps under the torque of the 4.0, not to mention you won't break bolts off in the yoke

  • @McLilWilli

  • @JeepnJeff
    @JeepnJeff 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You might get some seeping from the pinion seal if you didn't add any RTV to the surface where the seal mounts to the housing. Just smearing some RTV to the outside of the seal and housing will stop it without having to pull the seal again. I found out the hard way.

    Way back I spoke in your blog about lifting the Jeep and that it would put additional stress and that Factory height on the YJ was fine for most sane off roading. All those breakdowns along the way, well that’s the result. You don’t have a rock crawler, so just try sticking to dirt roads that “Jade” can handle. Or, be prepared for more issues.

    when oil come out of the fill port, something usually water went it. best to change the diff oil

    • @SimonElenor

      It would be milky if water got in.

      If oil is not emulsified, it floats above the water.

      @@squrtnegone the diff spins constantly on the YJ. There are no hubs. Therefore it would be mixed constantly.

      Also the plug is at the the top so eater would be coming out first.

      Simon Elenor water is heavier than oil. It also takes a lot of water and a lot of mixing to make the oil look milky. Either way if it was properly filled and it is now higher something went in.

    So confused, how have you not gotten pulled over for not having rear fenders? I mean I’d take my stock ones off, but I’d be pulled over as soon as I left my driveway(local inside joke). Cape cops sucks

    Welcome to the real green vehicle life. I own a 93 ford f150 4x4, 81 wagoneer, 66 barracuda,and 1913 excelsior scoot. So old cars and bikes our a life I love what b bob as it even has its personal plates he a faux wood panel pro on the trail with a Perkins diesel and 5spd netting me 35mpg. As you can guess he's inspired by the movie what about bob. I wrench on my vehicles and keep them in good nick the scrap yard is far away for my cars unless you count the parts retrieved there. So the next time that prius pulls up and scowls at you remember your cost less carbon spread out over 30years that theirs will make up in 5 when it's batteries run out and it's tires only last 30k and my last bfgs lasted 140k. So keep on trucking and remember we all have issues just let the psychologist have his geraway.

      Robert Magnone distributor or crank sensor. I figure crank sensor since it ran the night before the jade meet up. I have a feeling the crank sensor is bad. I once did a distributor and didn’t realize the customer put it in 180 degrees out. I felt so dumb it took me almost an hour to figure it out. Plus the three plugs that go to the tps, crank sensor, and iat are easy to get switched by accident. I don’t remember exactly but I’m pretty sure two of the three plugs are very similar. If that makes sense...
