Got a special place in my heart for this Merc. My first job as a copywriter was on MB. I got to drive this sweetheart on the Nurburgring before it came out and pushed it to 150 with no fuss whatsoever. It was the first new SL in 12 years and they wanted to make sure they got it right. They sure did.
Bill, I’ve been binge watching as many of your videos as I can find. I love your humor and the history and back stories you give us on each vehicle you review. Thank you, you’re one of a kind.
I've not watched it yet..... I see I need a shade under an hour for this one. Can't ever be too long but Bill's venturing into feature length productions it needs my undivided attention.
Don't watch if you're tired, must admit i was tired when i started watching this and fell asleep at soft top explanation i think around 43:28 ish, (and i actually like Bill's commentary), and woke up in a daze to Bill driving and half yelling something about today's crap at 55:05 (and thinking yeah i agree, keep cars simple). It's a long one this one. Guess i'll go back and watch from soft top again (true fan style).
Bill, you deserve that award. Watching you keeps me smiling and also gives me an education on shit i didn't even know. Keep doing what you do. Big fan. Charlie.
Yes! That’s the first thing I think about when I see an old SL. I was eight years old when the show Dallas aired. Even at that young age, Bobby Ewing’s car stood out to me. That may have been the genesis of a life-long passion for cars.
Bill I just wanted to say that you have become far and away my favorite person on youtube now. I love how you always keep it real and everyone of your videos makes my day a little better with your very unique sense of humor. I dont want you to underestimate the effect you have on some of the peoples lives that are fans of yours. I hope to be able to watch this content for many years to come. Thanks for all the amazing content.
By far one of the best 560sl reviews I have ever seen, live or otherwise. I have owned a 560sl for the last 30 years, and with the exception of maybe pointing out every service item, you’ve basically hit every detail worth mentioning. The history lesson & jokes were also instant classics like the car. Absolutely stunning condition, even MB cup holders, this car must have spent 20 years of it’s life in somebody’s “guests only” living room. Congrats! Great find and hope she gets a good home and sugar daddy to pamper her.
You tell the best stories about so many older classic cars Bill. It's a pleasure to listen to you and your rhetoric is hilarious 😂 Keep them coming! They video's are never too long for me 😆
Ted Bundy "rode the lightning" in Florida...priceless. I spit out my morning coffee, and I'm still cleaning the keyboard on my laptop as I am typing this...
My Dad had a blue 560SL in ‘89. He chucked me the keys to go for a ride, picked up my then girlfriend, now wife, and floored it, eventually getting a big speeding ticket in Nassau County. Dad never got a ticket in it, to my knowledge. Special GT car for sure.
Personally I love the round headlights and big bumpers and I grew up around the Euro versions of these. These are absolute classics now and beautiful to look at. I love it every time you do a video on one of these. You've done quite a few already, but don't stop.
Isnt that a beauty? Omg. Mercedes-Benz is the second best thing Germany ever created, after Albert Einstein, of course. Thank you for sharing. And beautiful cats. They look adorable.

Bill, you mate, are an absolute legend! Came across this channel about a month ago due to my deviant interest in American cars with fake wood down the side. I am totally hooked, now half way through your "back catalog" and have learned so, so much, about cars, about Florida weather and about the dangers of killer cats. Had an R107 for 12 years as a daily driver, back when that was possible on a budget, it replaced an '86 Caprice Station Wagon, which had been feeding my vinyl appliqué fetish. My SL was a 420 which I think was Europe only? It was so awesome, best car I have ever owned and one of the best times of my life was spent one summer, about 10 years ago, chasing the sun around the Cote d'Azure in it. I mean, to be honest, we were camping in a tent, but the tent was in the boot of a 420SL! We thought we were the pinnacle of Daimler Benz elegance. Thank for your sharing your amazing knowledge and your individual take on life. You so deserve that TH-cam award!
