Ironically a friend's dad in high school had one of these with the slant 6 and it actually was peppier than I expected. Had an 8 track tape player complete with a Barry Manilow tape. Also here in Canada we got the super 6 as standard which had a 2bl and a mighty 110Hp.

I am addicted to your videos! I am amazed at your ability to make even mundane items seem interesting by relating their history. I was, like you, just a kid when a lot of these cars came out and never looked twice at them at the time, but your description and presentation of them make them seem appealing to me. Thanks to you, I now understand why they were built and why people bought them. When you are young you want fast and sexy looking cars to pick up fast and sexy girls, later you want sensible and reliable sedans to commute back and forth to work and move the family around, but at a certain point in life you want soft comfortable luxury two door coupes to take you to the country club or cigar store. P.S. Whatever your are paid to make theses videos is not enough. I cannot imagine most of these cars could be sold at a decent price without your salesmanship. Keep up the good work!
My grandmother had one of these back in the early 90's. I remember it being a boat - I hated it! I was embarrassed to be seen in or around that car. I'd LOVE to have that same car today :)
You know thats true for myself included! The only car I still would never want again ,and , I swear I would roll it right off a cliff,is my corvair! I hated that damned thing then and i hate it now lol!
I had a 1975 Cordoba. Given to me indirectly by my grandmother, with the 400 Lean Burn set up and a smog exemption. My grandmother bought the car new and lived out in the middle nowhere Iowa where leaded gas was still the norm, so no catalytic converter was ever installed, straight from the factory. It was great. Rode like a marshmallow. She was so proud of it. She was 55-56 and it was the first brand new car she had ever bought. Great memories of her and showing up at our house with Grandpa in the passenger seat, not allowed to drive it. Suddenly, Grandma was the super cool, hip mature woman. She passed it down when she bought a 1986 Buick Park Avenue Electra. She loved that car too, but her Cordoba was special to her and it was important to her for it to be maintained, it barely had 50,000 miles when she passed in 1993.
I have to say, I owned a 1980 Cordoba and loved that car. It never broke down the whole time I had it. Mine was the metallic brown with the brown landau top with opera lights.
Thanks for uploading the long awaited Cordoba video. Your hilarious description on the origins of the "rich Corinthian leather" prompted me to look up Ricardo Montalban, after which, my TH-cam feed was inundated with retro Cordoba ads. Fun fact, Sr Montalban got the Corboda pitchman job after doing some live theatre in the Detroit area at the time when Chrysler was getting ready to launch the car in the mid-70s. He claims that it was his iconic portrayal of the elegant Spaniard in the ads that really launched his TV and movie career into high gear. Anyway, it is nice to remember the innocent days when marketing was limited to cars and other consumer goods, as opposed to the current age where hucksterism is used to hype climate catastrophe and mass injections.
OJ in a Hertz commercial jumping over counters to get to this car, on the way to the knife store. Bill is a seriously underrated improviser/comedy writer!
I love this car, my dad had one for a time during my childhood and I'll never forget it, I can still smell the smell of the red leather seats and the smell of rubber when he would open up the 318c.i. v8 on rare occasions.
Hey Bill, regardless of what others may say, I enjoy your ramblings, the shitty humid heat and birds. You remind me of myself with the hyperbole. Your longer videos are most enjoyable. Keep doing your thing.
Very interesting, and admitatly not what I expected as I was thinking it would be the 1st gen, as I had no clue there was even a 2nd gen! I was also excited to see the slant 6 in there. Never knew these survived to the 80s. The last of the RWD Chryslers really did hang on to the far reaches of the past as long as they could and then WHAM Front wheel drive Mitsubishi motors for everyone! Thanks Bill!
The legendary (for its durability) "leaning tower of power" slant six continued in Chrysler cars like the Dodge Diplomat until 1984 and light trucks until at least 1987. Production continued until 1991 for marine and industrial applications.
I remember many very long rides from the back seat of this car when I was a kid around 8 or so like going to Canada from Massachusetts. The plastic new car smell always made me want to throw up. The car was metallic brown with tan interior. It had the slant 6. My dad had this car for ten years with hundreds of miles pulling 16' boats and long trips to Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire. This car was also my first car handed down and it was a POS by that time. I Had many great times going to fun places like concerts, party's and amusement parks with friends, video camera fun on the road, and breaking down a lot. It was put though a lot of abuse like floods from hurricanes. My older brother stole it from me and forged my signature on the title. A year later I saw it in the junkyard that I went to frequently in the crushing lineup waiting to be crushed with 2 other cars on top. I could tell t was mine from the interior I actually waited around awhile to see it get crushed. I saw my childhood and teen years in that car that car disappear instantly with the last crunch. It was depressing to watch but hey. I had replaced the Cordoba with a 1968 red Pontiac Firebird. I was around 18.
No let down, Bill! You did an excellent job showcasing this amazing automobile. Definitely worth the wait! I think I may actually like this second gen Córdoba more than the original.
I think the 2nd gen is a better looking car, at least it's aged more gracefully. That said, there was a certain gaudy 70s malaise charm in the 1st gen that is lacking here.
@Just Mingled I definitely think the 1st gen had that late 70s charm... but it's a car that looks good from certain angles and awkward from other angles.. But I do agree that the original with the round headlights was much better then the 1st gen refresh
I like Bill ,he's comical & funny as he ramble on about all sorts of things 🤣. Get back to cordba I think the 1st generation was more classic to me...✌🏽
I had a 76 Charger SE Daytona (a rebadged Cordoba) and an 82 Cordoba. The 82 was much better! The 76 was junk at 73k miles, I drove the 82 Cordoba to 195k miles and the engine and tranny were still going strong but components were breaking down (turn signal stalk, ignition switch, wipers, etc), which made it a bit tedious to drive. Plus, my new wife needed a car so I parted it out and bought an 88 Cougar. Hated that Cougar, it was thin, lightweight, and nowhere nearly as solid as the 82 Cordoba!
I agree, it's a good looking car. I remember when the '75s came out, and thought they were nicer looking than the Monte Carlos. Great job as usual Bill!
Bill, I've seen every one of your videos, and I think my biggest laugh ever, was the ash tray incident with your reaction! I dont care that the car sucks, you made the video fun as usual with birds and OJ references and people with hats and all that good stuff. Thanks for the videos!
As both a Canadian and an infant that rode in one almost identical to this one, I can confirm that I was quite chipper in the backseat/package tray of these cars. Although it was much more fun to sit in the middle of the bench seat and play with the radio
You're hilarious! I am a high school teacher in the City of Detroit who presents to the classes like you present these cars to your viewers: Random segues, keen observations, facts buttressed by opinions, and all wrapped up at the end with a neat bow! One of the best car channels - thanks for the chuckle-fests!
Another great one! Much prefer the prior generation with the round headlights, my uncle had one and it always reminded me of an American Jaguar-style coupe. But this one is cool in its own way! Thanks again Bill. Always a pleasure!
This guy is a comic magician! I have NEGATIVE interest in an effing '81 Cordoba, yet i listened to the entire video with full engagement just to hear Bill's comedic monologue. From OJ to hats to an infant on the package tray to a wayward ashtray to pistols in the glovebox . . . He's a riot! Double thumbs up!
We all want the long ass videos Bill. It’s your ranting and rambling that helps us get through the day in these times of intergalactic insanity. Your one of the few voices of reason that I can listen to. I used to watch your videos on cars I was only interested in, now I watch every single one, even those awful German cars I dread fixing at work. Good thing we don’t see that many of them. It would make my day to see a 2 hour video from you. So keep rambling and ranting as much as you please. We need it.
This was my first car in HS and it was an absolute toilet. It ran a 23 second 1/4 mile at Englishtown Raceway and someone in the stands asked what was wrong with it…I said “nothing….it’s a slant 6.” Rear brakes locked up, engine bogged off the line if you floor it for as long as you floor it, it plowed around corners, and the puffy white rich Corinthian leather stuck to your legs like glue if you wore shorts. It would literally bog off the line for as long as your foot is to the floor shaking along at 3mph….until you lift off. It was my dad’s daily with about 40k miles. Absolutely terrible car.
It's a Christmas miracle... Santa brought us the Cordoba!!! Bill is going to retire to Thule, Greenland. The Slant 6 Cordoba took 18.9 seconds to get to 60 but on the positive side, it got 20 MPG combined which was decent for that era.
You are a legend somehow getting Bob Guicione into a Cordoba retrospective .I grew up in Windsor in the 70s and all the kids I went to school with dads worked @ Chrysler and had a Cordoba - you are right they were all variations of brown/gold
Gotta say. I’m 34 and started working at a dealership when I was 16 and have sold Benz’s for 11 years. I appreciate the subtle dealership humor and lingo only old timers (which I guess I qualify as) will understand. Keep it up!
Little tid bit, but big props for sticking with the per car Descriptions and even adding a Chapter list for the videos Bill! I love reading the descriptions, and they're very articulate in summarizing the car! Keep up the great work and congratulations on 100k!
Bill, you’re hilarious! The more you say you’re going to hold the video down to a respectable time, the longer it goes! This car with the slant 6 must have been a real dog as far as acceleration. My ‘74 Dodge Dart with same engine was slow as molasses. This is a handsome design, IMO. Sleek, beautiful tail lights, beautiful grille. Clean styling. Nice job.
I had a 62 Valiant Signet Coupe with the 225 and 'three on the tree' manual shift that was my used car purchase for college in 1969. Fire engine red and dorky as hell but I LOVED the car and kept it showroom. The 225 was one of the best engines Chrysler made. Very punchy and good milage and zero mechanical issues. I'm surprised they offered it in this model and had no idea they offered it for so many years but it makes sense. It was reliable.
Actually pleased to see this review. I was one of the few to ever buy an '81 Dodge Mirada CMX new! Mine was a match for the brochure cover - Nightwatch blue, white faux convertible top, blue high top bucket seats, turbine wheel covers, 318 cid. I really did love that car. I bought it when I took my '77 Diplomat 2dr coupe to the dealer for service. I left that day with the Mirada. That was the only car I ever owned that people would stop me and want to look at it. My only issue with it was the gearing was so long, the only way I could tow my 16' boat was to leave it in 2d, unless I was going downhill. I guess I am a bit surprised that I never had any issues with the rubber/plastic end caps. I still have the greatest memories about that car. Thanks for the reminder!
I have a new appreciation for this generation of Cordoba that I didn't have before after watching Bill's video. Before I never cared that much about the 80 thru 82 Cordoba preferring the 75 thru 79 Cordoba. I had a 77 Monte Carlo new for 18 years with the swivel buckets and rally wheels. Thanks to Bill I have changed my mind about the 80 thru 82 Cordoba and kind of like them.
This is a great video! The commentary is always entertaining and I love this Cordoba. Part of Chrysler's sales problems at that time was their dealer network. I actually went to purchase the sister car to this (Dodge Mirada) in 1980, and the dealer wouldn't even let me test drive it. He thought I was too young and just wanted a joyride. Said I could test drive an Aspen. Well, I wasn't in the market for the Aspen, so I ended up crossing the street and buying a Silver Anniversary Thunderbird (please hold the disparaging comments) that I absolutely loved. I actually have another one now. Anyway, I also really appreciate the crank windows in the Cordoba. I've had quite a few collectible cars and the biggest issue I have had is failing power windows. For me, manual windows would be a sales feature!

Very jealous of the classics that you get to review. Keep it up. You have the best videos and would be disappointed if they weren't 40 minutes plus!!
Hi Bill. Love your commentary, history of the era and complete description of the car. One thing though. i really wouldn't concern myself with the birds as I doubt that they would mistake you for Tippi Hedren.
I would say that my dad would have been cheap enough to buy a stripped down Cordoba because he was a Mopar guy....but of course he bought the Dodge Aspen coupe with the Slant 6 instead because cheap. And of course the Aspen was stripped down. AM Radio, no air conditioning, roll-up windows, etc. The only option may have been the intermittent wipers. Two cars ago he still had a Corolla with roll-up windows. Keep up the good work Bill. Videos are always informative and fun. Please continue to keep them short like this one.
We stuck a low mileage, RV cammed 360 into an 81 Cordoba with all the toys uo top. Tossed the 904 for a 727 with shift kit and sure grip 373's (I think). Made for quick little sleeper, surprised a lot of hot stuff out there during mid 90's. A secondary vehicle, a couoke people drove the car until one rainy night, a buddy spun it into a ditch. Raided the running gear, moved on ... Great show, BTW

I travelled often, most every week back then, and I always booked the Imperial or New Yorker vehicles as they were so excellent... my fav years were '89 through '93... such magnificent vehicles... it was always a good week with one, disappointing when not available for the week... Bill my friend, you are a rare man! I’ve been watching this famous driveway of beautiful and sometimes novelty vehicles for over 3 or 4 years, when your bosses wife, the lovely and also funny in her own right, Maryanne, I believe her name is, would also review vehicles. As a matter of fact, she reviewed and test drove the w126 Mercedes Benz I bought from Autohause of Naples and had shipped to California. Me and Peter unfortunately exchanged a few unpleasant words about something trivial, an issue we would eventually work out in the end, so I have some experience in your circle.. I saw a few of your reviews and loved your style from the beginning and YOU were the reason I would purchase my first car, sight unseen and from another state! Intertwined in some of that rambling you give a a sense of sincerity. Believe it or not, I hear a lot of me in you, as I just turned 50 and I feel the same way you do on several fronts, it’s funny. So I’m familiar With every deep breath you take, I’m reminded of my own tenancy to do the same, to regroup my thoughts. I too am a rare animal like yourself who prefers cold and snowy over tropical and warm any day. I feel for ya. I lived in Philadelphia for 8 years so I’m familiar with the wet and uncomfortable humidity element. I just wanted to tell you to keep doing what you’re doing, you’re a mega wealth of information on the vehicles you review, that you earn the right to talk about the weather, animals, birds, Peter, Dalton and whiskey Corona hangovers for 10 minutes before you “dive into” the actual review.. absolutely.. Life’s too short, go to that cool place you so desire! In the meantime if Peter ever permits you to have an assistant, a camera guy, I’m your man! Keep it moving buddy

You know thats true for myself included! The only car I still would never want again ,and , I swear I would roll it right off a cliff,is my corvair! I hated that damned thing then and i hate it now lol!
So much content lately. Thanks!
I'm on it. Jamming.
Covid is really yielding a bumper crop of these old cars for Bill!
I had one as well
Just like the one in the video
Loved it !!
hmm, Atlanta 85 or 86
Love the "so-called" long video's. Don't change a thing. I look forward to the weather and animal reports.
Coming home from work and seeing Mr. Bill posted another video is the highlight of my day! Keep them coming my good man, we appreciate them!!
I think the Laser was a Mitsubishi
@@neilgibbons2532 The later ones were. The first ones were K cars.
You Crack me up Buddy, Great video keep up the great job and never change a thing.
I had a 1980 modle very similar to this one
I loved that car
Mopar stands for miscellaneous odd parts arranged ridiculously. Love you Bill thanks for getting the Cordova up
NIce, I'll have to remember that one. Ford stands for fucken old rebuild dodge.
Ford stands for Fookin' old recycled Dodge, and also Found on Road Dead
My Old Pig Ain`t Running
I was about to mention the acronym for Pontiac, but I don't want to start another race riot.
Poor Old Neopolitan Thinks Its A Cadillac.
Bill ”The definitive encyclopedia of cars” . Thank you for another 50 minutes of pure entertainment.
What an absolute stunner! Would you just look at that beautiful car? Just look at it.
I agree, it's a good looking car. I remember when the '75s came out, and thought they were nicer looking than the Monte Carlos. Great job as usual Bill!
They’re highly underrated. I’ve got an 83 in midnight blue and I love it!
I don't love this car, but I love Bill. Hell, I'd listen to him describe the inside of a stinky barn for 50 minutes. He is a TH-cam treasure!
Bill, I've seen every one of your videos, and I think my biggest laugh ever, was the ash tray incident with your reaction! I dont care that the car sucks, you made the video fun as usual with birds and OJ references and people with hats and all that good stuff. Thanks for the videos!
That and when the Mercedes Switch fell off !
As both a Canadian and an infant that rode in one almost identical to this one, I can confirm that I was quite chipper in the backseat/package tray of these cars. Although it was much more fun to sit in the middle of the bench seat and play with the radio
As last! The long awaited 1981 Chrysler Cordoba review!
Congratulations on 100k subs, Bill.
Thanks!
Another great one! Much prefer the prior generation with the round headlights, my uncle had one and it always reminded me of an American Jaguar-style coupe. But this one is cool in its own way! Thanks again Bill. Always a pleasure!
Oh my goodness. I can't wait to hear what this man has to say about this car. FINE CORINTHIAN LEATHER
It was just good PR. Corinyjian was nothing more than a standard automotive grade leather.
I like the first gen. I can’t wait until you find one of those that’s a 1977 like I used to have. It had a 400 and mine was Taxi Yellow.
My wife and I had an 1983 Cordoba with the 318 as our first car... We both used to enjoy the cruise... We miss it, nice to see one like this again
THE CORDOBA IS HERE I'M LITERALLY IN SHOCK
It was only a matter of time.
The evening cruising shots with the lights on the dash take me back to the old days
It does exist !!! . I just about fricken died laughing when that ashtray shot out of the dashboard like a rouge north Korean missile .
Not as bad as when the cigarette lighter popped out and burned a hole in the backseat.
We need it.
Not expecting much from this one…but one of Bill’s best ever!
I'm 53 years old and have never, ever heard anyone call it a "Doba".
Like, ever.
All said, Chrysler did the best job with the bumpers at that time.
Such a ridiculous mandate, which ruined the styling of so many cars.
Thule sounds nice
You are a legend somehow getting Bob Guicione into a Cordoba retrospective .I grew up in Windsor in the 70s and all the kids I went to school with dads worked @ Chrysler and had a Cordoba - you are right they were all variations of brown/gold
This was everything we all expect. All the great characteristics of a Bill car review were fully present and accounted for. 😃😃😃
Gotta say. I’m 34 and started working at a dealership when I was 16 and have sold Benz’s for 11 years. I appreciate the subtle dealership humor and lingo only old timers (which I guess I qualify as) will understand. Keep it up!
Old timer? SMH.
@@crankychris2 17 total years. I was raised by the real old timers 😂
Cordoba. This video has been teasing me longer than my highschool girlfriend.
I had a 76 Dodge pickup with a Slant six, double barrel carburetor. Good mileage and decent performance and the engine was Rock Solid.
Stunning Car and as always another great review by BILL !!!!!!
Little tid bit, but big props for sticking with the per car Descriptions and even adding a Chapter list for the videos Bill! I love reading the descriptions, and they're very articulate in summarizing the car! Keep up the great work and congratulations on 100k!
49:44 . . . Bill didn't even have to say anything... that sound was enough!
I was thinking the exact thing! Perfect way to end the video!
The sound of many cigarettes passing through those lungs. Like the guy from Pawn Stars.
@@jsciarri Ah. I thought it was him breaking into laughter because the poor Slant 6 was essentially redlining to hold 82 MPH.
@@LakeNipissing I'm sure it was. But everytime I hear Bill laugh I instantly think of Rick from Pawn Stars.
Nice job.
Whoever purchased it probably knew about the abysmal "lean burn" ignition system on the MOPAR V8 engines at the time and opted for the slant six.
I was thinking the same thing. That lean burn crap caused so many issues.
@@joe08867 Lean burn=Starved for fuel=no power plus other issues Tons of bad engineering at that time across all the domestics.
49:44 That wheeze is everything! lolol
"OJ...on the way to the knife store"
Classic!
I lost it when he pulled out the ashtray!!🤣🤣🤣
I lost it with the OJ knife store joke!

That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like Mr Patrick Becker.
I heard that his strategies are really good
@@dicksonmorgan1705 Yeah, My first investment with Mr Patrick Becker. earned me profit of over $25,530 US dollars, and ever since then he has been delivering it.
Keep the videos long- we can never have enough of a good thing!
I had a '82 150 truck with the slant 6. Not a power house, but bullet proof reliable and awesome gas mileage!
Love the reference to Mr. Montalban. One of the true old school gentlemen of Hollywood. KHAAAAAN!
I had a 82 Mirada with 318. Super nice car with exception of electronic ignition failure.
😢
Damn Bill that all car cruises the highway pretty good! Must make a little torque! Love it! Thanks for finally getting it to us!
Hi Bill from accross the pond. Just had a very busy 11hour shift at the hospital that I'm a nurse and, once again your brilliant video (and large black Jack) has raised my spirits. Very jealous of the classics that you get to review. Keep it up. You have the best videos and would be disappointed if they weren't 40 minutes plus!!
Gaawd I’m having withdrawals without a new video from Bill!!!!!!
Thanks for this one Bill. I had a '83 that I bought when it was seven years old. Nice car but I really LOVED my '84 Fifth Ave. Please do one!
The Chrysler Imperial was a favorite car rental of mine... I travelled often, most every week back then, and I always booked the Imperial or New Yorker vehicles as they were so excellent... my fav years were '89 through '93... such magnificent vehicles... it was always a good week with one, disappointing when not available for the week... This was an excellent automobile in every way...
Second! Good evening Bill from Ron in Manchester in England. Our weather is going to be hot over the next few days, I rather it was cool. Sorry your weather is crap Bill, glad the birds and animals are leaving you alone. What a fantastic car today!
Love all of the videos Bill. Don’t change. I have a 1980 Mirada with 11000 miles on it I got from my great grandfather in 2000 this video is really is special to me :)
