Even after a few years, this series really gives me this strange feeling. It's like, with me, for movies/TV shows. It's over. There's never gonna be a continuation and it is an end for characters. I love this series, and I *hope* it doesn't die completely. Ever
It begins with the real Izuru Kamukura founded Hope's Peak Academy in order to gather students with various talents in order to create Hope. And years after that (Danganronpa 3 Despair arc), there was a project called the Kamukura Project with its goal to create an Ultimate Hope by experimenting it on a talentless student and Hajime was chosen for that. But in order for the experiment to success, it was necessary to remove his emotions and personality. The experiment succeeded with its result creating the Ultimate Hope but inhuman and later named as the Hope's Peak Academy founder, Izuru Kamukura. And for Hajime during the killing game, he has identity crisis. While being Hajime, he is just an avatar that presenting for Izuru Kamukura.
And what's more, while being part of Remants of Despair, Izuru Kamukura actually neutral (he isn't affected by Despair to go berserk). He will see what the future will be and by that he will choose between Hope and Despair that promises him the most. But in the end, AI Chiaki made Hajime (Izuru's avatar) realized that Hope (the future) can be created by ourselves even if we are talentless. With that, Izuru starting to revert back into Hajime.
Wow thank you guys that was a good explanation and as sad story. it's sad to think chiaki wished to see her friends before she died but instead chiaki died while (hajime/izuru) watched her die
