This is legit, the video that got me into knives. Just watched it again years later.... Viper is still my favorite knife. Randy, your channel is still my favorite knife channel. Slipjoint content is my jam

I purchased a Viper Tidioute with smooth white bone a couple months ago based on your recommendations from one of your previous videos. I really like the knife I agree with everything you say about these knives. Its a very nice utility folder that also looks great.

Superb review, Randy, and oh what a knife it is! Mine is a Northfield, which is the other end of the Viper spectrum and beautiful in its own way. But your bocote Tidioute is also awesome. I think a potiential buyer who watched both our review videos would just have to buy both... LOL!

finally i found my gec 47 tidioute in bocote.
i like the way they kept it. its simple , basic and looks clean.
i also preferred the tidioute version over the northfield.
i also got my talon eureka jack in ebony.
it took me almost a year but fonally got the same knife
    i like your reviews

I really like swayback patterns, and this 47 is pretty cool. I have a Hounds Tooth that I haven't used yet because I think it's too small so I might have to keep an eye out for one of these. Have you seen Marcin S's swayback framelock? Now that's really what I want.

Great review! The bocote is definitely my favorite but sadly wont be in the new run of vipers.

Nice videeo and a wonderful knife. Too bad I can´t get a hand on one here in Germany. The only thing getting any close is the Otter Webermesser. So this has to do it untill I find a Viper.

It's a pretty cool knife, and I don't fault anyone for buying one. Its just there are so many $30 wharncliffe and sheep's foot knives from say Germany or Italy that get the job done for me. Again I don't fault anyone for buying one though, it's a gorgeous knife and I own a few gec knives myself. although they are at the more affordable end of what gec offers.

I totally understand you! Its pretty but not too pretty that you worry about scratching it up an ruin it :)

Good to see ya back. I love this pattern so much, I bought it in 6 different handle materials. I didn't have the funds when they released the "Lava" acrylic handles first, and those disappeared very quickly, so I missed out. Those acrylic handles can take the most abuse. If ya dropped one, it might barely put a scratch on it, but it won't crack or chip. For real use, I do prefer the Tidioute version, w/o the swedge, so the tip has a little more thickness. I think the wharncliffe blade is only out performed by a sheepfoot blade, in more demanding cutting tasks. Clip point & other popular blades are great slicers due to the curved belly in the blade, but a wharncliffe & sheepfoot will scribe or cut through something like leather much better, with the sheepfoot being the best, because that stout & blunt tip is the hardest of all blade shape tips to break, yet it still has that sharp edge all the way at the tip. Great review!

Great vid and GREAT knife, SKR! BTW...I think that Tidioute is pronounced "tid-eee-yout".

    • @mikesalsgiver7480
      @mikesalsgiver7480 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Correct on the pronunciation. I live in Tidioute. It is a small town in northwest pa. Less than 1000 people live there. GEC knives are produced in Titusville pa which is 20 miles from Tidioute. The case knife factory is only 40 miles from Tidioute. Lots of great knives made near here

I feel kinda bad I didn't buy one of these when they were in stock, but I just bought the Eureka Jack with Wharncliffe and Ebony handles. May be here tomorrow, can't wait!
    Thanks for the video, Randy!

Very nice Randy! I love the looks on that one too. They seem hard to find too, unless I'm looking in the wrong area. The "weird" stuff is very common, I know I like the same kind of stuff which might seem odd to some, but it turns out to be an exclusive liking thing, like the Nuke treatment for example. It's the idea of a look that looks old, yet also from another, classier era that managed to survive.

Does anyone by chance know what these go for on the secondary market? I'm thinking about selling my Northfield in Burnt Sienna.
