You might wanna get the afe gt momentum closed cai with the blue filter. The blue filter is for better performance and the white filter is for better filtration
Mike Gee if you go for the 6.4 air box then you might as well go with the hell cat lower air box with the front snorkels and new grille with the snorkel bezels
Mike Gee I only say that because I have a scat pack and I am considering upgrading to the hell cat lower air box with front bezel grill. I like the look the most and also like the added cooler airflow into the intake
There may be a solution but not sure hence I am asking. There is something called rain guards for hood vents but I am not sure if they work nor if they also guard the air away
I still have the factory hood on my Challenger but with all the Aftermarket hoods on my Chevys had to periodically armor all the weather strips to keep water from finding it's way into the head and signal lights after the rubber got brittle.
Two of the best options out there that would both lower your intake temp (especially at idle) dramatically, increase air flow and eliminate the issue of water leaking through hood vents are: 1. Use the stock air box, or even better to swap out the lower box to a hellcat one that has a functional inlet hole, and get the mopar air duct along with a radiator shield that fits right on to the lower box inlet hole, so it would breath fresh and draw more air from the fender grills. I think there are two types of mopar’s fender grill air ducts/tubes, where one would fit both the Non SRT and SRT front bumpers, whereas the other would only fit the 19+ SRT with 2 front snorkels/eyes on the grills. 2. Get an AFE GT momentum kit, the box also has a same inlet that would fit the mopar fender grill air duct tube. The open box design is good while the car is moving = performance, but you might have noticed that your intake temp would rocket up like crazy (2 times or even 2.5 times higher than ambient) at idle. The main reason why that is the case is because most of the heat generated by the radiator goes right through the open designed air box to the air filter when the car is not moving(some are exceptions if everywhere else is enclosed but the top). If say you got a hellcat lower box without also getting a mopar air duct, a good amount of heat would still go through that inlet hole to your filter. I see yours is like a half enclosed open box design, that’s even worse IMO. The AFE GT momentum box has a cap that you can put onto the inlet hole if you dont wanna use the mopar air duct. I have a mopar cai kit, and i have since noticed a tremendous difference in idle intake temps between mopar and stock boxes. I then blocked the rectangular inlet hole on the mopar box by riveting a piece of rubber, and the idle temp dropped a lot comparing to before, but still wouldn’t be as good as an entirely closed box design since there’s still some area not sealed (the top lid where the weather stripping seal ends). Getting a closed box would only benefit by eliminating the water issue and increasing air flow along with the mopar fender air duct. lmk what you thoughts are :)
I used a 5$ sheet of black Plexi (I cut to fit my Blackhawk intake) and 2 90 degree brackets and made my cover for under 10$. Takes 5 seconds to jump out of car and throw it on if I get caught in the rain. I've driven 4 hours in straight rain without any issues. I have a hellcat hood on my car and the vent is DIRECTLY over my intake.
@@RTLife then you drill a small hole, throw a short bolt through each side of your intake shield, throw a nut on the other side with a washer so you have a stationary peg to quick lock the 90 bracket into. I developed this idea last winter while my car was just sitting for the winter. I love do it yourself projects!
Thanks for the shout out bro. Water control is one main reasons I like my specific brand of Viper hood - the vents have a catch-basin under them that funnels water to the front of the hood where it drains down in front of the radiator. So very little water gets into the engine bay. Looking forward to the meet this weekend - wear your long johns - gonna be brisk out there!
yah my hood does that as well. For the most part 90% of the water gets funneled to the front of the hood. It's def going to be a cold one this weekend! Should be fun anyway
A little plastic shield over the air filter with drain channels looks like the solution. We make little water shields on the cooling we have on our cowls on the planes we build at my work. Best of luck on getting this issue resolved.
Did you regret getting this hood for your car? I feel bad for those who own a viper or a car with a viper good especially when it rains. That's like me driving with twin turbos under my car in the rain.
@@RTLife on paper, you lose more hp in the close box intakes, and gain torque. But after getting it tuned, it was proven closed box intakes are better. It doesn't pull the hot air from the engine and runs cooler longer, meaning the fan doesn't kick in until later. I could physically feel the difference from the open faced one to the closed box. It broke all 4 tires loose on my Durango RT with just that change. For what it costs, it was definitely worth it!

Have been thinking about changing the stock one on my SRT8, for a carvini induction hood or hellcat style one for better heat extraction. I also like the ones that are on the Steve Saleen SMS 570 Challengers, and always thought that they were really cool as well. Even though they are based on the RTs, it would still look cool on my srt8 and most people wouldn't know what they are anyway. Except when washing it, and would just cover the filter was plastic anyway 👍🏼
I like those Carvini Shakers - they looks slick. Remember you can always put a waterproof sleeve over the filter. The air flow in the engine bay is much better.
I mean, i might have a V6 but i have a K&N in there. If you have a filter around the same size as the K&N filter. I would recommend a Drycharger cover for the air filter. Works like a charm on heavy rains.
Great video...its nice to see the drag racing every once and awhile and just touch on a few other topics besides a "build". And the wife looked like a total BOSS and so calm and cool while she was freaking that guy out!! 💯😎🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wanted to go shaker but the price was just to much. I don't think this is really a big deal though - a lot of water needs to be dumped onto the intake to have issues. A Shaker Charger would have been cool.
R/T Life for my year it’s only 380 plus shipping so it isn’t bad. I have PTSD from water damage to my car so I didn’t want to take any chances because it rains a lot in VA 🤦🏾♂️

I have the big cowl hood from anderson composites on my challenger so as long as water does getting into the intake, then ur gd?. I have the factory box w) filter
my first carbon fiber hood had a lot of cut outs, learned my lesson 💯, unless you keep it in the garage alot or keep a car cover when you park every time but I just ordered a oem carbon fiber hood ,f the look, oem no cut outs ,still weight reduction
You would run into a similar issue if you have an open intake setup. The Demon scoop directs air directly to the intake area. This isn't that big of an issue. I would really need to have a ton of water to really run into an issue.
Yeah I can see that I do have an open one. That’s why was wondering but a lot of chargers are getting your style hood. Trying to be different with the demon one at least don’t see to many chargers with that one. Well from where I’m from. But great videos and lots of knowledge 👌
Great, informative content as always! I’ve looked into the filter sleeves when I was considering getting an LMI True Cold Air intake, but I chickened out and got the hammer because I’m just too paranoid about deep puddles, but I know it’s so rare to hydrolock an engine. I think that’s your best bet though and like you said, just take it off on race day. Some people clean their engine bays with a water hose or even power washer, so the small amount getting in yours is probably nothing to worry about but I know it’d bother me too.
yah I don't think I will run into any issues - the hood does a solid job of catching most of the water. Just trying to be careful though. Thanks man - hope all is going good on your end.
I was looking all over for solutions to this issue. Thanks for the video It was some good options.I think I am going to seal them all from the inside.I had a 350z Hr before and it was turboed and I had no issues this one is a De and iam more worried about prolonged water exposure to the engine itself.
This has been a concern of mine since we got my wife's 18 R/T Durango since it has the SRT hood with vents. That is why she hasn't got a cold air intake.
@@RTLife hold on so getting the killer bee hood is only liable to get water if we have a after market intake? I have stock intake on my scat pack and want viper hood but worried about water …
This is one reason I haven't done the switch to my RT hood yet. I've been doing a bunch of research because I'm concerned about water getting into functional hood vents and scoops. Especially since I plan on a supercharger in the future.
It's really not that big of an issue if some water goes in - you just can't have a massive amount directly on the intake. Everything else in the engine bay is ok to get wet. But I understand your hesitation, that was a concern of mine as well.
Look into the viper hood from TruFiber - it has a water flow control system that catches the water from the vents and drains it in front of the radiator. I have a couple videos on my channel about this hood if you want more info.
@@RTLife Yeah. I just have to decide which supercharger I'm going with so I know what position it will be in, in the engine bay and then decide which hood and water protection for the filter since it rains all the time in South Florida.
@5.00 wen u were talking about a sleeve for the air filter, I can tell you it definetly works,When I was riding quads (banshees) I had a similar type of thing that would go over the filter,,It worked very good.Dont get me wrong if I were to sink the bike in deep shit I think it would cause issues ,but overall worked great, and I never blew a bike up over wet filters
Thanks I've been wanting to put a viper hood on my charger. I didn't want the water in my air filter is there a preferred site to buy hoods like this from.
I'm hoping Kevin Van Norris race actually happens I'm also hoping that you show up because to be completely honest with you you're probably the only one that I could race👍👍👍👍
I know this is a old video but I need to tell you this. The sleeve is great at repelling water under the fossett. But... When you apply a vacuum to it. I will suck water through it. It's great if your engin is off not so much if its running.
I remember you asking me about my Forester hood scoop when you were worried about water getting in. Better off getting a block off plate then the waterproof cover. Think about the snow building up in there and might as well just block anything getting in there 👍
That was my question about this hoods, I want to eventually get one either the same you have our the classic hellcat hood, but I always ended thinking, where all the water go!!
Is there any way to not get water in the engine bay tho? I recently bought a viper style hood for my 2014 charger and I have a build in mind but the underneath of the hood was cut out and I don’t know how to fix it so water doesn’t end up Messi g up my engine bay from water damage, can anyone share advice or possible diy’s? 💀
Was gonna be one of my mods on my 16 RT before traded it off for on my Scat... I was concerned with this may be some of the issues with the after market hoods, with the money that they want for these you would think they would do a better job but again doesn’t surprise me!
Hey man. I have a question. I have a 2014 RT with a hellcat hood but my hood shakes a good bit when I’m driving. Any idea how I can combat this other than hood pins? The main area of concern is the main scoop and the area buy the windshield
I had that same hood on my 2008 charger and cost me 200 an hr at car the dealership to fix my electrical fuse box from rain water $$$ never again. Seal all those holes with flex seal. It work fine
They didnt add channels under the vents to draw most of the water away from the intake??🤔 seems like not alot of thought went into it, although if ypu have the cloth filter it SHOULD be fine with anything less than a direct stream of water flowing into it, as it wicks most of the water, and the oil on the filter is meant to keep it beading off. Also, personal experience, do NOT use vinyl wrap under the hood, use the heat resistant 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ whats it called..dynamat? Used it to seal my uncles '65 mustang hood, or fashion a tray lol
@@RTLife oh yeah its fine if some gets in, ive actually hosed my entire ebgine bay down multiple times, nothing will get damaged by rain. The filters are pretty strong too, my k&n with 96k miles on it, still suppresses most of the water, washed it today under a high flow of water and not much was making it to the other side. And the oil is water resistant. Chased the water that i missed right out of the filter.
Say guys this is a GREAT GUY TO TAKE NOTES FROM - he knows his Sh*t ‼️ when it comes to the RT / Hemi motors - lol not funny but he took a bit of L’s so we can take the W end - mod after mod he’s the Goat ( keep it going RT/life your motivation ) and I’m following your advice look at my channel

LoL.....you do I video of just her driving like that. 💯😎
That’s the only reason I didn’t get the viper hood for my charger. Going with the shaker.
Also did you try spectra for the air filter cover
Rt u can get the sock that goes over the filter. I usualy comment n tell people when i see them change hoods but i know ur usually up on that kind of stuff thought u already knew bro lol. Hood looks awsome by the way. Just checked legmaker got them n pretty much any 1 that sells intake filters.
yah I was looking into the sleeve that goes around the filter - def a solid option. Might end up doing that. Thanks man
I have the big cowl hood from anderson composites on my challenger so as long as water does getting into the intake, then ur gd?.
What you think about the demon hood though ?
You would run into a similar issue if you have an open intake setup. The Demon scoop directs air directly to the intake area. This isn't that big of an issue. I would really need to have a ton of water to really run into an issue.
Yeah I can see that I do have an open one. That’s why was wondering but a lot of chargers are getting your style hood. Trying to be different with the demon one at least don’t see to many chargers with that one. Well from where I’m from. But great videos and lots of knowledge 👌
What rear window cam did you install behind in the video?
Great info, thank you for sharing.
this is def a good upgrade - very happy with it. Thank you
I was looking all over for solutions to this issue.
That is why she hasn't got a cold air intake.
if you keep the intake stock there will no risk at all. It would take a lot of water for issues. I'm just being safe.
@@RTLife hold on so getting the killer bee hood is only liable to get water if we have a after market intake? I have stock intake on my scat pack and want viper hood but worried about water …
Yup I have the same ones it is a problem. So far I have a good cover for it.
I ordered a durango r/t hood for my 2012 Dodge Durango citadel with the hemi
Nice! You're going to like how it changes the look
The beginning of this video w/the wife gunning Vinnies Demon is Hilarious. LMAO every time I see it. It is a classic!
That clip cracks me up as well! Def funny how she floors it like a boss
Can u leave the sleeve on for daily driving or do you have to take it off every day?
Yes - I've seen others do that. The intake will still be able to breath with it on. Racing I would take it off
This is one reason I haven't done the switch to my RT hood yet.
@@CTHellcat I'll check it out. Thanks!
I know what you mean - it repeals water but that will not help if you fall into a lake. I might end up getting one because it's easy to slip on/off.
Great video!
thanks man, def appreciate it.
Badass hood!! 👍 Definitely getting this or the Hellcat hood next payday!!! 😎
Thanks man - this thing adds such an aggressive look. You will really like it - either one though is a nice upgrade.
Thanks I've been wanting to put a viper hood on my charger. I didn't want the water in my air filter is there a preferred site to buy hoods like this from.
I'm hoping Kevin Van Norris race actually happens I'm also hoping that you show up because to be completely honest with you you're probably the only one that I could race👍👍👍👍
yah I hope it happens as well. Would be fun to line up against you man!
hey man where did you buy your hood?
Frogzskin material underneath those vents might work better. They repel water and allow them to still work as a heat extractor.
That's a solid idea
I know this is a old video but I need to tell you this. The sleeve is great at repelling water under the fossett. But... When you apply a vacuum to it. I will suck water through it. It's great if your engin is off not so much if its running.
Great ideal, take some footage this weekend brother 💯👍😀
Will do! Thank you
Great video brother
Thanks man! I appreciate it
Almost to 50k 💪
yah man! Def getting there.
Using thin half PVC pipes to channel rain water under openings coupled with soft rubber tubing to evacuate water is really efficient.
I remember you asking me about my Forester hood scoop when you were worried about water getting in. Better off getting a block off plate then the waterproof cover. Think about the snow building up in there and might as well just block anything getting in there 👍
Very true. Most likely will get the filter sleeve & call it a day. It's simple & cheap.
Yes it’s a viper-like hood
It’s not meant to be in the rain!
def not meant to be in the rain - still no complaints. Just fixes
Yeah the hood is nice but mine is a daily driver and it rains like always here lol.
I hear you! Def an awesome hood - but I understand what you mean.
That's just not cool watter in the air box, looks like you have good idea to remedy the situation! A nice job bud!✌
Thank you very much! I'm def a happy guy. I appreciate it
Mrs. R/T Life was calm as a cucumber flooring that Demon. I wouldn't want to race against her on the track.
hahaha - she handles HP like a boss! Thank you
R/T has got to start every show with a fart gag from now on.. lol.. I thought Leslie Nielsen was recording
hahaha - glad you caught that! I think it flew over many heads
I had that same hood on my 2008 charger and cost me 200 an hr at car the dealership to fix my electrical fuse box from rain water $$$ never again. Seal all those holes with flex seal. It work fine
I think a Drag weekend would be fun 👍🏽 I would drive out there from Cali just to be there and race a couple times 👍🏽👍🏽
yah man it would be a lot of fun. Hopefully something can be worked out
They didnt add channels under the vents to draw most of the water away from the intake??🤔 seems like not alot of thought went into it, although if ypu have the cloth filter it SHOULD be fine with anything less than a direct stream of water flowing into it, as it wicks most of the water, and the oil on the filter is meant to keep it beading off. Also, personal experience, do NOT use vinyl wrap under the hood, use the heat resistant 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ whats it called..dynamat? Used it to seal my uncles '65 mustang hood, or fashion a tray lol
No there are channels & for the most part they do a solid job of collecting the water. Some does get into the engine bay though.
@Filterwears on instagram has a great intake hydrophobic material sleeve that’s great for intakes that sit below hood vents. That’s what i’m running
Drive the Montecarlo in the rain brother
Yah the monte goes out in the winter & bad weather.
Yall ever heard of this thing called a car cover ?
Wouldn't help much if you get stuck in a rain storm
True, just making a little joke...I got open vents in my 370 I just park it
locked up one of my bikes, sad thing is that it ran just a day before. It must be the earth getting back at us for driving gas guzzlers
Damn man, sorry to hear that!
@@RTLife better than having a whole car lock up thats for sure haha
Amerihood hoods are better in my opinion they are actually functional ram air hoods not just vented hoods, I just ordered one for my 300
Say guys this is a GREAT GUY TO TAKE NOTES FROM - he knows his Sh*t ‼️ when it comes to the RT / Hemi motors - lol not funny but he took a bit of L’s so we can take the W end - mod after mod he’s the Goat ( keep it going RT/life your motivation ) and I’m following your advice look at my channel
Thanks man for the support - I really appreciate it. I'm def learning a lot modding this RT.
She scared his ass 😂😂😂
LOL - took a couple of years off his life!
I dont know why, but sometimes you remind me of michael townley with the beard, hair, and glasses
That's the dude in GTS right?
@@RTLife gta v - yes. With the wife and kids
I would definitely like to come out to an TH-cam event and even shoot down the strip at least once i never raced on a prepped surface before
It's a lot of fun. You would enjoy yourself.
Well, she's kool...😂😂😂🤣🤣
hahaha thanks man
I would love to go with Artie and turn some 13's second runs for fun and meet these Loud mouth!
Hell yah! Would be fun seeing Artie out there running
Water is not going to hurt your washable air filter or your engine so why worry about it
True but if it's really pouring out & i'm on the HWY water could get through
@@RTLife if you are moving it won't get in and it's like a small steam clean for your engine if the filter is slightly wet I would be more worried about water getting in the electronics but I am no expert I do have a water proof cover on my Tahoe but the filter is open air in front of the tire and it could get a big splash in a deep puddle and that would be bad peace of mind spend the money and get the cover
*IF EVERYBODY GETS TRACTION* Holy crap.. I'm dead. That dude always complaining 😂😂😂
I want to see those 2 line up legit - on green go & let's see how it plays out!
TH-cam call out 2020 Toronto motorsports Park Canada 🇨🇦
I think 2020 we will see a massive callout
R/T Life hopefully
I call BS! I've driven in New York before and there is no way, NO WAY IN HELL y'all have drivers ed! Drivers licenses are found in boxes of Lucky Charms up there! 😉😎🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
But Jersey is worse! LMAO! Though where I'm from (Maryland, DC area) they're no better either!
hahahaha! Everyone around here drives like their house is on fire. I think NJ Everyone drives like they're lost lol

Love that hood won’t that hood
Thank you - I'm really happy I went with this hood.
