@@ajheartsong Interesting take! I thought the themes were repetitive too, but still was phenomenal. I didn’t anticipate THAT cliffhanger! March came come soon enough!
Just watched it. That ending was a gut punch. Didn't see that cliff hanger coming. I highly enjoyed the consistency of the story. Miles morales earth at one point had 2 spiderman which differed from the norm. And we see what happens when a world has no spiderman and a kid has no father figure.
@@Arosukir6 Pretty much. That's how the main Miles Morales will come to terms and understand the responsibility of being Spider-Man. Through his Miles variant as the Prowler, with this Uncle Aaron, a ruined chaotic version of NYC, and the Sinister Six Cartel as his first act hurdle. I'm getting the sense that they will finally bring in the cosmic versions of Spidey into this, to restore balance to the Multiverse and defeat Spot.
Honestly if anything, this movie and Guardians 3 being out right now and both getting rave reviews from critics and audiences just prove that the whole “superhero fatigue” narrative is kinda bullshit. Like yeah I get it, we’re getting too much and a lot of them recently have been just fine or underwhelming, but that’s really the thing: people aren’t tired of superhero movies, they’re tired of mediocrity. Whenever we get a bad or mid comic book movie, people bitch about it like, “Man I’m starting to get bored of superhero movies.” but when we get a really good one, they shut up, and we had a few great ones in the pile of average or terrible ones. So lesson is: Make more movies like Spiderverse and Guardians, and less like Quantumania, Shazam 2, Morbius, and Black Adam
Oh the fatigue is definitely real. After endgame I stopped watching all marvel stuff. This is the first superhero movie I decided to tune into in years.
@@Nimbus3690 I mean it’s not haven’t got any great superhero movies whether from Marvel or DC after Endgame. No Way Home, Shang Chi and Wakanda Forever, The Batman, and The Suicide Squad we’re really good, recently Guardians 3 was fantastic. Korey wearing the crown is just the best thing to watch in minutes 😂😂😂 and I can’t wait how awesome Spider-Man 2099 will be for his debut to blockbuster.
When the last one came out, it was the same year as another Spider-Man film and the first game. And Korey said “Spider-Man is like Jell-O, there’s always room for more.
Only reason this movie isn’t perfect is because I was not expecting the part 1. They really did a good job of hiding that or at least I hid myself from it lol. I did not expect the cliffhanger
I saw Across the Spider Verse today, it was frickin phenomenal! The whole film kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, the animation was absolutely gorgeous to look at from all of the different art styles that were used, and the cliffhanger left me excited for the next one! In my opinion, I felt this was even better than the first one, which is pretty impressive because the first was already a masterpiece! 10/10 for me!
I totally agree with you. Anybody who thinks this film was moving too fast, should realize THAT’S THE DESIRED EFFECT! That’s how you push the paradigm for the next generation. In other words, YOU’RE TOO OLD!!😝
The screening I went to last night, it was pretty packed and of course there were some kids in there. I expected at some point to hear some fussing about "is it over soon?" or something, but I wasn't going to let it bother me. The only sound I heard was a kid stifling cough once or twice. Beyond that, none of the kids said a thing throughout. I don't know what amazed me more, that or the movie itself.
Just came back from it and I loved it wow talk about every frame a painting, it looked amazing, especially the scenes with Gwen and her dad. The central conflict is great and great use of metatext The reveal with Earth 42 and the mom was great, they distracted me enough to forget about the spider. The stand outs were Spider-Punk and Pavitr, they stole the show for me High Full Price
As a Spider-Man fan, this film was like an Orgasmic experience lol. It's been a while since I've walked out of the Cinema buzzing with hype and shock. That's me saying this calmly.
This movie and the next Spider-Verse were in production at the same time way before the writer's strike started. I think it's safe to assume that the next film will be fine.
@Michael Strong ok but stranger things season 5 was recently in production and they put the filming on holt sooooo who's to say they won't for the next spider verse film
@@jarrodedson5441 bro the directors already announced that both films were being made back 2 back like how infinity War/ Endgame were. The third film is going to b released March 2024
Either that or I think a better comparison is Back To The Future Part II. It was a movie that was not well received at the time (or just received lukewarm at best) but eventually grew on people over the years. You can't deny that Spider-Verse 2 has some of the best animation ever put to film.
I can’t wait to see this movie with my sons. We have been watching the first one weekly since it dropped 😭they are obsessed with Miles. He is the only Spider-Man my youngest will acknowledge 😅
It's times like these when I think about how much Miles Morales & Riri Williams pissed people off when they were revealed. How people pulled out that race swap & pandering garbage. & I just love to see these characters having this kind of success. A well written character is a well written character & a good story is a good story. Everybody needs to stop getting their panties in a bunch over that kind of pointless bs.
It's not garbage at all. Even Korey in the Little Mermaid review said he started to understand the frustration with race swapping instead of just making an original black or other minority character. These characters have been written BAD at times and that's what generated the dislike. More that Miles is written well in these movies we can look passed the obvious intentions of the past and appreciate Miles for who he is as a character and how well things are in these particular movies. I heard he's gotten better in the comics too but I don't keep up with them
@@The_Oracle_58 it is garbage & it’s the announcement that generates backlash before their stories even come out to see if their good or not. Miles’ early comics were good, but there was too much hate for the character for people to give them a chance. Plenty of superheroes have multiple people take up their mantle, but it’s the women & minorities that draw backlash. You can go ahead & stop that garbage too.
6:28 You're never ever going to see those characters again in one movie - that's one of the reasons why Who Framed Roger Rabbit is infinitely a better film than Miles Morales Across the SpiderVerse. That said I thoroughly enjoyed this film on the most part that I'd just about squeeze it to a 10/10 despite some real flaws in it's execution.
I've never gone back and forth in my mind so many times between two movies. "Across the Spider-Verse" and "Into the Spider-Verse" are easily my two favorite Spidey movies of all time, hands down. Which one is better though? It's tough. I almost feel like giving it to "Into" solely because of the "What's up danger" scene.... But I feel "Across" is a more ambitious and reflective movie, that makes it more intriguing and engaging watch for me. It's fitting that the first movie had that theme/graffiti of "No Expectations", because the second movie really delves into the notion of SUBVERTING expectations. Whereas the first movie hammers down the notion that ANYone can be Spider-Man, the second one is about delving into, and possibly changing what it means to be Spider-Man. "Across" has a more harrowing feel to it, in comparison to the more freewheeling tone of the first. Despite the second one being a solid movie on its own, it is still very much an incomplete story. I almost feel like I can't even judge it properly without seeing "Beyond the Spider-Verse". Maybe that is a criticism, but it is clearly an execution by design. I just loved "Across the Spider-Verse" so much. If the third movie can match what the first two accomplish, we'll definitely have an all-time great trilogy on our hands!

11:28 Are you sure you don't hear the director's voice in MCU movies? Mulitverse of Madnesss, Love and Thunder, Eternals, Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, did you not hear the directors' voices in those films?
That’s one thing I don’t entirely agree with Korey on. Certain MCU movies, yeah they do feel made by committee, even some of the best ones like No Way Home and all the Russo Brothers directed MCU movies don’t really have that much of a style to them, but Phase 4 was definitely the most experimental and some of the directors did shine more, but it was just to varying degrees of success. Raimi did elevate MoM despite the movie’s flaws, Zhao definitely brought her signature style into Eternals even if some felt it was out of place in the MCU and the movie would’ve worked much better as a show, Love and Thunder definitely went full Taika but not in the best way, he did go too much on the comedy, and Gunn is definitely the best one with the Guardians trilogy fitting into the MCU while standing on their own while and feeling like his movie.
@@gcolbyp Yeah, MCU is doing exactly what they claim they want them to do which is allowing directors to bring more of their own voice into these films. But I think they are under the impression that a director having more of own distant voice automatically makes the movie good which isn't the case.
@@realityshifter3399 Yeah there’s been cases where a director has too much freedom to the film’s detriment, some would say Tim Burton with Batman Returns, The Wachowskis with Speed Racer, recently Damien Chazelle with Babylon, hell I’m even seeing some say that about Ari Aster with Beau is Afraid. There needs to be a middle ground, I want the director’s voice heard on the screen and for movies to bring a style to them, but they also need someone next to them to go, “Hey you’re doing too much man.” That’s why the Guardians movie are a perfect example of that middle ground.
Also its weird korey complaining that mcu movies just set up stuff when in a video about love and thunders second weekend drop he and martin complained there is no set up. Now korey say they just set up.
Did y'all hear they apparently released two different versions, with minor dialogue alternatives. And the amount of references, but well placed/hidden is incredible. I'm a little biased, but 10/10 for me. The first one is a 9.5 imo
To the criticism that ATSV was close to losing focus: I agree. Let me say from my personal experience, I was able to keep up as a grown-ass adult, but some dude brought his 5-year-old into the movie and the poor kid was begging to go home half-way through the movie. It's definitely a film that relies on its audience to understand the complex concept of the multiverse going into the film, I think.
That close up of The Spot reminds me of Bill Sienkiewicz, one of my favorite comic book artists!! SOLD!! If the last one won an Oscar, this one feels like a lock!!
This movie is the first one in decades that made me feel like i did as a kid seeing a Disney "Renaissance" era movie. Its not a perfect movie but there's something about it. A near perfect merging of many little things. "That wasn't a good animated movie, that was just a really good movie!"
The only negative to me was the pacing. It went from a slow beginning to 100mph and almost didn’t relent. It was almost like the pacing of jokes on Family Guy - just one thing right after another. ADHD , multitasking, fast paced. The same complaint I had about No Way Home. I just got overwhelmed and couldn’t absorb everything that was happening. Other than that, great flick.
10:02 Ben's death really gets overblown. He died twice on the big screen... And it only felt tired because of how lazy TASM version was. We don't need to see Ben die, but his influence 1000% *needs to be there.* That's why MCU Spidey was called _"Iron-Man Jr"_ until NWH.
Hope the double toasted crew make a spoiler discussion , because this is animation, this is storytelling, this is cinema. It’s deeper than some live action drama movies. It deserves discussion until at least Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The Empire Strikes back comparison is very apt, I feel Star Wars was a standalone film, but Empire and Jedi were made as a two parter, so Empire could afford to end on a downer note. This film is about as good as a successor to the first as I could ever had hoped for. It doesn't just do the same thing again, but it is a proper sequel that builds off of the first one and takes its ideas in new directions
One thing that really stood out to me is that the disaster rescue super hero sequences were extremely tense and you felt REAL peril despite how hyperreal and stylized the animation is. It felt more real somehow than photorealistic CGI disaster sequences. You really buy in and my butt was clenched for the entire duration of some of those scenes.
I cried 4 times watching this film yesterday. Almost 5. I held back the tears for the 5th. Excellent film. I was bummed out that there was a cliff-hanger.
@@RedDevilStudio (SPOILERS) * * * * The villains ending up scattered on different Earths due to "canon events" being messed with. I assume that included MCU's Vulture ending up in the Venomverse.
Just got back from seeing this film and it was simply amazing. Actually topped the first one and that's saying something because that was also a great film.
I'm about to head to my bus stop to take me to my local theater for this one!! Gonna see an early Thursday showing and then tomorrow gonna head to the other theater right after work to see it again! I'm so ready!!!
I have to be honest. I am definitely in the minority with this movie. It simply wasn’t for me. It was too hyperactive and wild for me and it actually caused me anxiety. Maybe I’m just old. WITH THAT SAID, the animation is genuinely amazing, frame for frame. This is an animator’s wet dream. It is crazy good. And the creativity and the ideas are admirable. I really wish I was in the majority with this because I definitely can understand why people love this movie. When it comes to a family picture, holy moly, kids are especially gonna love this and grow up to look back at this as one of their favorites. I really think that. Did I like it… unfortunately I had a hard time viewing this. But hey, I recognize this as something that is going to be VERY special to a lot of people.
My only criticism would be if this could've been a series, it could be spread out and paced better while also including more so all the bits that did feel rushed (like Indian Spiderman was for me) could've had some breathing room and also possibly been out in a shorter timeframe than having to wait a year for part 2. Then could have the whole story told in loads of episodes that probably spanned 6 months weekly (making equivalent to the length of some 20+ episode animes like Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star). Then again that's more a wish fulfilment hypothetical. Movie was still the most amazing spiderman/comicbook/animated film of the year!
My theory of the construction lines is as the story is unfolding, the colliding of all the Spiders together is cutting through the fabrics, concepts, drafts and textures of the universes, even our world, leading us "Beyond..." maybe even into a brand new look for the third film
Watched it with my daughter. All of the parent/offspring moments--the conversations--perfectly encapsulated everything I ever wanted to say to her. Love there's deeper context to Spider Gwen's backstory (a bit lengthy) at the beginning
There's plenty of the heartfelt moments with the family dynamics Miles Morales has to go through finding his belonging wanting to contribute to the multiverse so it’s good they don’t skimp on that
The visuals are top notch as usual and with the backgrounds matching the emotions our heroes go through like oil paintings or abstract art
It’s also consistently funny throughout I was smiling so much
Hip hop and r&b is also a big part of the soundtrack which actually might be more impressive this time
The Spot voiced by Jason Schwartzman is funny enough although he should've been a bigger villain and I wish they had gotten to the society of Spider people a lot quicker (that should’ve been the crux of the whole story)

LOL I'm already like "I'm tired and I haven't even seen it yet." I need to drink some coffee before going.
I might need to stock up on energy drinks because after I'm done watching this movie tomorrow, I'm going home and playing Street Fighter 6.
I just left the theater and our whole crowd left like “that’s it?!”
I get the praise for the visuals but the story itself was just meh. Very predictable and hamfisted with the themes about parenting
Same here
@@ajheartsong Interesting take!
He does have a father figure, actually. Unfortunately that figure is Aaron. Sometimes having the wrong guidance is worse than having none.
Into The Spiderverse is one of my favorite movies of all time, I'm excited to see this one tonight.
It was amazing, right?! I LOVED IT!
@@sarahjames4358 Better than the first one. I need to see it again
Facts
Y'all, we need more GREAT superhero films.
I get feeling that there’s too much or that some projects don’t grab your interest, but I just think the whole “superhero fatigue” narrative is a load of horseshit.
@@antwanscott97 That’s what I’m saying
Sensory overload. The exact same thing I thought leaving the movie. I say that with love though. I felt there was so much to constantly pay attention to. It held my attention the entire time but I did need to decompress afterwards.
I love the fact that everybody who worked on this movie put their all into it. You can see the passion in this film and it's much appreciated
The movie took its time telling the story and I loved it
I totally agree. The way they animated the facial expressions and the voice acting just added to their emotional pain. But I swear someone screwed up on Miguel. They made Oscar look unattractive 4 some reason 😂😊
@@hamhockbeansYesssss. I agree. They took their time developing the relationships and I really liked those parts a lot. I really sat there and didn't want this 2 end.

Oh No, someone left Martin in the sun too long and he pulled a Sammy Sosa… either that or this is a Martin from another dimension, who instead of fedoras wears Burger King crowns lol
The first one won an Academy Award for a reason
"Everyone loves spiderman!" Except for multiversal being J. Jonah Jameson.
For a split second I was wondering what happened to Martin that made him look so different.
🤣🤣🤣
Only reason this movie isn’t perfect is because I was not expecting the part 1. They really did a good job of hiding that or at least I hid myself from it lol. I did not expect the cliffhanger
This and the first film look like they should be in a museum.
I swear to god, watching Double Toasted is like the ESPN of Movie Reviews with the sheer energy
You know it’s good shit when they wear the Burger King crowns
Just came back from it and I loved it
wow talk about every frame a painting, it looked amazing, especially the scenes with Gwen and her dad.
The central conflict is great and great use of metatext
The reveal with Earth 42 and the mom was great, they distracted me enough to forget about the spider.
The stand outs were Spider-Punk and Pavitr, they stole the show for me
High Full Price
This movie is worth the IMAX. One shot with 90's Spiderman was too immersive
This movie literally upped the animation game for all movies to follow. A+. Stunningly artistic. A masterpiece.
As a Spider-Man fan, this film was like an Orgasmic experience lol. It's been a while since I've walked out of the Cinema buzzing with hype and shock. That's me saying this calmly.
I hope the writer’s strike doesn’t affect the next Spiderverse movie
This movie and the next Spider-Verse were in production at the same time way before the writer's strike started. I think it's safe to assume that the next film will be fine.
The next film comes out in 10 months
@Michael Strong ok but stranger things season 5 was recently in production and they put the filming on holt sooooo who's to say they won't for the next spider verse film
@@jarrodedson5441 bro the directors already announced that both films were being made back 2 back like how infinity War/ Endgame were. The third film is going to b released March 2024

This really is the Spider-Man version of Empire Strikes Back kinda. It’s unbelievable.
I don't know who Koreys talking to, but he's very funny and I really like his input here (kinda cute as well)

I hope Martin is on for the spoiler discussion
It's times like these when I think about how much Miles Morales & Riri Williams pissed people off when they were revealed. How people pulled out that race swap & pandering garbage. & I just love to see these characters having this kind of success. A well written character is a well written character & a good story is a good story. Everybody needs to stop getting their panties in a bunch over that kind of pointless bs.
Miles was done right.
Riri... Yeah not so much.
I’ve seen the backlash against Riri for certain, but Miles? Nah.
I heard he's gotten better in the comics too but I don't keep up with them
@@weirdguy1495 you’re not not old enough to participate
@@The_Oracle_58 it is garbage & it’s the announcement that generates backlash before their stories even come out to see if their good or not. Miles’ early comics were good, but there was too much hate for the character for people to give them a chance. Plenty of superheroes have multiple people take up their mantle, but it’s the women & minorities that draw backlash. You can go ahead & stop that garbage too.
I believe they are forshowding Miguel's villainy. "Spiderman doesn't wear a cape" and he had a cape in the first appearance
This is my number one most anticipated film of the year! Already got my ticket for tonight
"No expectations", "subvert expectations", I bet the 3rd will be like "surpass expectations"
I hope it’s the best sequel since Paddington 2
I unironically love Paddington 2.

I agree in how overwhelming it can feel. I think they could've trimmed it down. Otherwise BEAUTIFUL film!! I'm glad Gwen has her own theme now!
So glad this movie is getting the praise it deserves 🔥🙌🏽
‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ came to mind as well after I saw it!!
I’ll be seeing it this weekend. So psyched! I know it’s going to be my new favorite.
There’s movies like Elvis, where it just makes you dizzy and there’s movies like this. When it feels like you are traveling with the characters
This movie is the first one in decades that made me feel like i did as a kid seeing a Disney "Renaissance" era movie. Its not a perfect movie but there's something about it. A near perfect merging of many little things. "That wasn't a good animated movie, that was just a really good movie!"
Fast X came out a few weeks ago and did a cliffhanger that the audience reacted to with “huh?!” This ending? Audience burst into applause.
We don't need to see Ben die, but his influence 1000% *needs to be there.* That's why MCU Spidey was called _"Iron-Man Jr"_ until NWH.
i think they just mean like comics, movies, tv shows, games, etc. he’s died a lot over different properties
Hope the double toasted crew make a spoiler discussion , because this is animation, this is storytelling, this is cinema. It’s deeper than some live action drama movies. It deserves discussion until at least Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The Spiderverse saga is EVERYTHING American animation should be.
I absolutely loved this movie! The run time flew by, I didn’t even feel the 2 hours 20 minutes, but when it ended, holy shit!

The Empire Strikes back comparison is very apt, I feel
Star Wars was a standalone film, but Empire and Jedi were made as a two parter, so Empire could afford to end on a downer note.
This film is about as good as a successor to the first as I could ever had hoped for. It doesn't just do the same thing again, but it is a proper sequel that builds off of the first one and takes its ideas in new directions
I like this Chris x Charlie Day fusion guy you have on this podcast now. Looks like your experiment paid off Korey.
One reviewer said this is the best spiderman movie ever made, better than the raimi trilogy and no way home.
As someone who grew up with the Raimi films I have to agree. This movie did so much for the character of Spiderman and was an absolute love letter

A series would be terrible, production value would be tanked
I wonder if Spider-cat comes from the same universe as Croc-Loki.
My theory of the construction lines is as the story is unfolding, the colliding of all the Spiders together is cutting through the fabrics, concepts, drafts and textures of the universes, even our world, leading us "Beyond..." maybe even into a brand new look for the third film
Not David Kaluuya 😂
