Will the tractor start without a fan? I have the same issue as well and I tried to start my engine and won't start. I'm only hearing a knock from the transmission.

If I remember correctly the mower would run with the fan broken. If the fan broke in a way that it keeps the belt from moving that would keep the mower from starting.

hey thank you for the video--i found out today my fan was broken as well----i guess the fan is for cooling the transmission?--so anything could knock the belt off the rear drive pulley correct?--It does not mean that the belt is bad? thx

Could probably use a new belt but I think it’s a design flaw of these machines.

When I try to loosen the nut to replace the fan, the transaxle moves (rotates). I turned off the parking brake too. Any ideas on how to stop it from spinning.

You could put the belt on the pulley then squeeze the belt together in that no man’s land away from the pulley and hopefully that’ll work. Are you using an impact or a wrench?

@@ChrisThedudenurse impact. Saw another video where you put a pair of vice grips on the pully and jam it against the side of the frame. Gonna try that.

could you run it without the fan?

You could, but you’re liable to overheat it.

@@tterb777yes, we’ve been running it without the fan, and so far haven’t had any problems, it’s been pretty hot weather, I bought a new fan, but it’s a real pain to put it on, only way I can see would be drop the transaxle, this model has the fuel tank above it, you can get to the fan by removing the rear wheel, but no way to hold the pulley to brake the nut loose, need to use a impact
