I didn’t see Brexit coming, but I saw something coming…. way back in the late 90s, the toxicity of British politics and most of its media had me downright scared. So I moved to NZ. Zero regrets.
I think a lot of it had to do with Rupert Murdoc taking over the media over there. He is the main person responsible for transforming USA politics into the toxic wasteland it is. Someone admitting that they were simply wrong about a charged political issue is pretty remarkable in this day and age unfortunately, so I salute any Brexit voter who is willing to do so. Hopefully the stupidity can be overturned some day soon.
An issue presently with this is that leaving the single market, the customs union, scraping all legislation passed whilst members of EU and rushing it all through without proper preparation for the upheaval, wasn't on the ballot. What we've gotten is nothing like what was on the ballot. Not only should there have been more referendums, to cover all the changes, but a greater majority should have been required to ensure that a simple 1% shift wouldn't change how the vote(s) would have gone, given the significance. Personally, I never expected it to be followed through on as it was a non-binding vote and would be hugely costly for most of the wealthiest people with influence.
@Movies and Games Underestimated the value of the Euro. After recently being worth less than a dollar. I think people were right to underestimate it's value.

There seem to be two types of regretful leave voter: 1. "I honestly believed _everyone_ would be better off." 2. "I honestly believed it would only negatively affect people who _weren't_ me." And it never ceases to amaze me how the second group genuinely believes it is morally equivalent to the first and deserves the same treatment.
There is also the moral dishonesty of number one. The facts were there for them to see and they chose to ignore them for a comfortable lie which suited their prejudices. They are the same. That's the problem.
I’m an American who lived in LDN for a few years a decade ago…watching Brexit and its aftermath from the US has been maddening and chastening - I have to thk that when I next visit the UK it will no longer feel like the very center of the world like it did post the 2012 Cool Britannia phase…it’s sad…
As one caller said, a referendum on such a major issue should not have been decided on such a slim majority. I think we were conned: I seem to remember that it was an advisory referendum, but the government then decided that it would be undemocratic not to act on the result. If it had been tagged as binding from the start, I expect a certain majority would have been required. To effect such a major constitutional change on that mandate was the undemocratic move. People voted for Brexit without any idea what that Brexit would look like. Which is why they are still arguing over it.
It's crazy when you consider for a country to JOIN the EU it on average takes a decade. Yet we made such a monumentally heavy decision as to leave on a single vote that was only 2% off of a 50/50 split, that most people who voted to leave had no idea what they were voting for and a lot of people who would have voted remain, not bothering because they either thought it "would never happen" or "wouldn't be decided on a single, close-call vote". Then because the Tories got impatient we rushed out of the EU in just 4 years with very few concrete trade-deals and an economy sinking quicker than the Titanic.
@@gary8306 Possibly because, in addition to the lies before the vote, key elements of the process were not decided until after it. There was no need to leave the single market for example. Even Farage was talking about a "Norway style deal" at the time. It was nutters like the ERG who insisted on the hardest possible brexit. But, as someone who has interviewed every voter yourself, I expect you've heard that before.
As these people voted to take away my rights on my own continent that I was literally born with, against my will, I find it really difficult to feel anything but contempt for these people. Even though they regret it.
I totally agree. The Brexit supports supported Brexit because of racism and the view that the world needed Britain more that Britain needs the world. This shown by British peopl calling themselves ex-pats when they are just immigrants.
@@johnvale3217Brexit was a mistake but racism had nothing to do with. The overwhelming majority(80%) of immigrants who came to the UK from 2004 to 2019 were European, so the notion that Brexit happened because people were triggered by the skin color of European immigrants is nonsense. This country has suffered wage stagnation since 1980 which many voters blamed on mass immigration.
@@algernonsidney8746 Xenophobia would be the corrrect term but people are often using 'racism' in this context. Once you use the proper word, their point stands. The UK had the best deal from the EU when it was a member, kept the pound, not in Schengen, rebate on the yearly fee (thanks to Thatcher)... I think it will be a long time before UK re-joined the EU, unfortunately.
"The UK had the best deal from the EU when it was a member, kept the pound, not in Schengen, rebate on the yearly fee" Actually not being in the Eurozone and not being in Schengen was a very bad deal. Even the rebate was a bad deal because all the money 'saved' went on tax cuts for rich people making the UK the most unequal country in Europe.
Scotland and Northern Ireland both have the best, easiest and fastest routes back into the EU but from outside the UK. What will be left will be a poorer and less educated smaller UK competing with Poland, Hungary and Spain for investment...

You point out to him that the glasses are still on his face and he starts feeling his face and out of joy realizes he has his glasses and shouts 'I got my glasses back'. That is a Brixiteer who thinks he got his country back after voting to leave the EU.
The 'fault' is that a major decision, as complex as this, should have never been cast open to a vote by the UK Electorate. It was far too difficult for the average voter, given the level of education in the country, to make a truly informed decision. Therefore, it was open to massive manipulation. Therefore, the blame must ultimately lie firmly and squarely at DAVID CAMERON'S feet who allowed a Referendum....for the progression his own political career ! And where is he now?!
I must say it wasn't just Cameron's fault, as he was pushed by the ERG in the conservative party (as the women says in the video) and previously putting things for referendums was a successful tactic to dispell them e.g. AV referendum in 2011

Whilst it's a shame that these people fell for all the lies or actively chose to ignore the truth, there is nothing wrong with these people admitting that they regret their decision and that they were wrong. Admitting that there is a problem is the first step on the road to everyone actually accepting that the issues exist and (hopefully) working towards a solution. Personally, I would prefer that we rejoin the EU, but I'll be very surprised if any future Governments of ours actually instigate this.
I respect these people… I do not respect anyone who lies about their vote or denies the truth of the situation. Admitting your mistake is difficult, especially on public radio. I loathe those people.
I think the majority of those that voted for Brexit did it for honest reasons, basically wanting to make the UK better. What a shame it's too late. I'd never forgive brexiters if I was British.

It should have been a long robust democratic process. As it is it was grubby political opportunism took us out, not a robust democratic process.

@@johnvale3217Brexit was a mistake but racism had nothing to do with. The overwhelming majority(80%) of immigrants who came to the UK from 2004 to 2019 were European, so the notion that Brexit happened because people were triggered by the skin color of European immigrants is nonsense. This should never have happened at all. Brexit is the downfall of the UK. My mother, now 84 years old voted to remain. She voted the young people and their future. Now they have none. I moved away from the UK in the 80s and I am glad that my children live and do well in Sweden.
My wife and I are middle-aged Americans and we knew that Brexit was going to be bad for England. But as an American I can hardly complain where we have millions of people who still think Donald Trump is somehow the Savior? In both cases the information is out there but people really have to want to find it.
the people have to choose the right news they don't because racism is blocking their common sense.
"Divide and rule"..it's the oldest trick in the book!
How is it that half the country Knew this would happen and warned brexit voters about and were constantly shut down.
Regardless of people who regret Brexit now, their single vote. Caused Brexit in the overall, so no. I do not forgive any of them. They had ample opportunity to conduct their due diligence like us "Remoaners", had access to the same information as us, the same sources and the same base-level stream of neurons within their brain. So no, we should not, and must not forgive them. If we forgive it happens again, and again, and again.
Nice to see people are waking up to the truth! Burnt bridges can be (and should be) rebuilt!
I have no sympathy for leave voters, especially those who have realised that they were wrong in voting for brexit. They are responsible for brexit and this is because they deliberately didn’t educate themselves about the brexit lies that they were told. These are crocodile tears from people who want social rehabilitation
Brexit today in Scotland is seen by most people, at least the majority of the ones I have spoken to, as typical of how Westminster treats Scotland in general, with utter disdain till they need our vote. As a lifelong Labour voter and one-time Labour activist, I voted against Brexit and against Scottish independence, I now think I may have made a mistake voting for one, and it was not Brexit.
Yup shame it didn't go to plan . Westminster is pure evil
The thing you have to understand is the alcoholic, obese, drug addicted Sweatties just want who can give them the most money
@@Officialnrb You haven't exactly helped your case. :)

I don’t present a case, just facts.
@@Saor_Alba
I don’t have a case. I just enlighten facts and educate people.
It's hard to understand from across the pond. Thanks for the perspectives
Yet ! not one of my friends or family have ever said they regret their"OUT" vote ,it probably depends a lot on area and society is different around the U.K. and so many don"t really care about our standing at the moment ,Britain has had bigger problems over the years as we are a old country ,so move on or move out ?.
Still believe it was partly the delusion of Brutish/English exceptionality. If I was the EU I'd wait on any new deal until the UK breaks up .
Why wait until it breaks up? There's only one country worth trading with and that's England.
@@trytellingthetruth.2068 The only place worth trading with in England is London and that place hates the rest of the country.

Unless there's the chance of a war ( Yugoslavia ) then they'll be banging on our door looking for help.
@@trytellingthetruth.2068good job on immediately proving his point
Bregret came earlier then I expected!
Not a moment too soon.
.......yep.....after 2 whole years.....😂😂😂😂
GREAT word !!!! stealing this lol
Tell me one thing Brexit is to blame for? You can’t!
i been watching brexit from Sweden all along, i saw the likeness between MAG and Brexit from start. Use peoples frustration with anything and redirect that anger to any agenda. EU is not perfect in any way, but blaming it for long term internal politics in UK was fairly sad. I really hope that UK get its problems sorted out and rejoin Europe politics and market in some way. We need each other to solve all kinds of problems on Earth.
Best wishes from Sweden.
What a sweet comment. Thank you for your generosity. So many governments, over the years, blamed all ills on the EU and it really showed, and the tragedy is that only about 36% of our current population actually voted to leave. The rest of us have to suffer. I very much hope we will join you again someday. Love Sweden!
The EU thanks you for your service!
Thank you for ridding us of Britain.
not educated enough to understand the guardian?? how bad are the schools in the UK
I can't believe it!!
He found the introspective ones he's been looking for!
Hope
You will always find some somewhere ,right or wrong in or out the U.K. voted by referendum for out
But of course. JOB likes individual anecdote to push his agenda.
Few days ago due to weather I thought I want to go away from UK and live somewhere else
So decided to look for countries I could go and work without getting a work Visa
Before Brexit I could have gone to 41 countries
Now I found Gibraltar, Belize 🇧🇿, Isle of Man 🇮🇲 and ireland 🇮🇪
Are my only options
For people who voted brexit to get rid of brown people lol
I’m one brown guy due to brexit I’m stuck in UK
No darling not just the brown people, the Bulgarians and the Romanians were a massive issue for UK.I am waiting for the new blame campaign, this time will be the Indians and the Africans. There is always someone to blame.
Don’t blame people for believing in lies… blame the liars!
….ok.. the ones who lied where r they now? And then ask them who‘s responsible for this bs.. surely the’ll blame others , btw .. where is this bigmouth Farage.. a member of Parliament?! And if … then get rid of this pathetic liars..
The honesty of the second caller blew me away.
Always welcome back in my book.
Greetings from the west coast of Ireland 🇮🇪
Next referendum, 2057 👍
It’s going to take a long time, but we’re coming back eventually.
Noble, John. Thanks!
Generously said. We’re pretty much the most hated country in Europe now, I think, (or maybe just mocked).
@@geemo4284lol, just mocked. The most hatred country in Europe is, of course, Russia.
OMFG she didn't have the intelligence to read The Guardian so she read's the Daily Mail. Now all the work is gone, I wonder why?
Conned and they know it.
Oof. This one hurts. Because she’s clearly smart enough to know that she wasn’t being smart, but apparently couldn’t see it when it mattered. I appreciate that she’s not doubling down and can recognise a mistake… but that mistake has pretty HUGE consequences, so it’s hard not to be at least a little irate
It's the reason why Brexit was, at it's heart, anti-democratic. The fact is people were lied to about objective facts, and encouraged to vote against their own interest.
If that woman understood the daily mail & its aims then why on earth would she continue to read it??
The UK economy downgraded to that of Italy and Spain and people’s livelihoods destroyed with entire industries shrinking. Very patriotic 🇬🇧
....obviously untrue but don't let that stop you...... and you omitted the EU flag.....so room for improvement.....😊
@@chatham43 exactly what about that is untrue?
@@sandygrowler7384
All of it.
@@trytellingthetruth.2068 but it has been downgraded in the recent IMF report. Many industries are in fact shrinking so your “all of it” comment isn’t really standing up is it!?
So your telling me Italy and Spain are better off out the EU then also 😂😂 this is so comedy gold with you people, you just defeated your own argument in your own sentence 😂
I still do not regret my Brexit Vote, but then again I voted Remain.
Truth of the matter is English people wanted for foreigners out so they voted brexit but forgot that foreigners built this country
