for some people out there.. as reference.. Canon EOS 600D is also called "Canon Rebel T3i " and the Canon EOS 1100D also called is "Canon Rebel T3" in other markets around the world.
Just thought I'd say I subbed to your channel, as a Canon user, because unlike most channels you give useful tips that can be applied to photography no matter what you shoot. You also don't explain things that most photographers already know! Thank you very much for the info :)
Hey John - nice to see you again. That makes sense - I am sure there are lots of videos I make that people aren't interested in and they take a pass. I got access to some great canon gear and wanted to present it as we have a diverse audience here. I have ALWAYS said this channel is for everyone.
While I originally came across this channel for Nikon related reviews and info and while I'm a Nikon shooter, it's good to have variety and see what else is out there and what else is available as well as what other brands are up to. Not everyone shoots Nikon and some photographers own Nikon and Canon gear. I do love your work Matt and that you do educational, informative stuff as well as some variation and it's always fun. Don't stop, keep on doing what you're doing :) Thank you.
How hard is it for Nikon fanboys to not watch a video which is clearly all Canon. I'm a Canon user and very pleased Matt takes the time to review all brands. If you stay aware of other brands, they are benefits. If you don't see that then just skip the video.
I own both these cameras, I prefer the 1100D over the 600D. The 1100 is a simple to use camera, more features then most would ever use, and the battery life is double that of the 600D. Why did I get the 600D ? Video. full HD video and the external Mic. It is a much harder camera to use for stills. I carry both, stills on the 1100D and video on the 600D. The cost was about the same for both cameras. The 600D is the better camera if you look at the specs. The 1100D is just fun and easy to use. I like both. Much the same as what was in the video.
hi peter i was really confused which model should i buy but after watching this video and reading your comments im preety sure that going to buy 1100d but all these cameras comes with normal lense can u suggest me a good lense for 1100d which will help to take more good quality pictures.. thank you..
The canon 18-55mm is fine if your starting out. it takes good quality photos, Once you master how to compose a good photo then look at a better lens, Depends on your area of interest. Some people would suggest that you use a 50 mm to learn but with a crop sensor you need to go a bit wider. After you get a camera keep your eyes open at secondhand shops. I have picked up a number of lens for under $10 like a canon 35-80 mm. works OK and a cheap learning tool. Thats the good thing about a DSLR you can change a lens after you out grow it. I feel if you are only starting out its better to Spend your money on a good tripod and a remote control. This will give you far better results in producing a great then a high end lens. Hope this helps.
Peter Slee Hey Bro, I'm interested to snap portrait. for this purpose, if i take canon1100D then which lens will be perfect for fulfilling my purpose? here is also a matter of the price.the price cannot be so high as i cannot bear it. :)
I kind of like the fact, that Matt is looking at all the "big" brands without focusing on Nikon only. It just goes to show that he doesn´t just talk about Nikon for the sake of Nikon gear but also looks around and gives advice to those who don´t nesessarily want to go down the Nikon road. If it´s good, he´ll say so, whether it´s Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax or who knows what. Which is exactely the reason why I watch his clips. Still, he talks about Nikon more...which is also quite nice
I installed Magiclantern on my 1100D and it's working great. Manual controls over video, zebras, peaking, audio levels, intervalometer (timelapse), HDR video, fps override (can shoot at 24fps now and less or up to 35fps) and a punch of other features. There isn't an official version for the camera but you can install the nightly build. You'll find it on their website. Go to nightly builds, download it onto your card, upgrade firmware in-camera, and done.
You're absolutely right (guy that looks and sounds exactly like me). Luckily the viewers are attentive and helpful in their feedback - so in this case they let me know quickly. Cheers all
You're welcome - I'm a Canon user and it could happen to me that I also make a mistake on the Nikon product line. So no problem at all :-) Great videos, I enjoy them very much! Keep up the good work!
Same here, I've stopped watching his uploads lately, it's Canon this, canon that ... zzzzzz. I mean, be 'ThatCanonGuy' if you want Matt, but some of us are just not interested in Canon, in any way. We followed you, for years, for the fact you called yourself ThatNikonguy from the start. Talking about what we actually want to see reviewed/compared etc ...
Matt I wanted to ask if you think the Nikon D3200 is the absolute bang for the buck camera? I could get it for $600 with kit-lens (new, 2 year warranty, official) and for the price I think it honestly beats some much more expensive cameras. I've only shot with Panasonic GH1, do you think there's something to consider especially when deciding about buying the D3200? Thank you very much!
my first option was the 600D , not just the sales guy did a brillant job of making me want to get it :P I liked the specs on the 600D more.. but since I couldn't afford it I got the 1100D.. nice camera , awesome images and great photography experience.. I still would like to have the 600D though
I have the 1100D, but i would have loved the 600D. The 1100 just had a better offer back in January 2012 when i bought the camera. I am planning to upgrade in another couple of years at the most, so by then there should be another entry level or maybe semi-pro camera under the £1000 mark so i will keep my eyes open and see what i end up with. I do love the 1100D, but the dust spots on my sensor are bugging the life out of me, so the internal sensor cleaning system would be a big help.
I did have the 1100d which is a great starting point for DSLR, but I have swapped it for the 600D for the same reasons mentioned in the video cheers nikonguy :)
Now that the T4i (650D) is out, the 600D is much cheaper than it was before. In my opinion, the choice is pretty clear, get the 600D. Things like the ability to record 1080p 24p and 720p 60p are useful, and the increased max shutter of 1/4000th compared to 1/1400th (?) is much better. Being limited to 1/1400th is really bad, considering 1/4000th is already limiting on a fast lens. The 1100D is just a training shoe that you will out grow rather quickly.
I'd definitely appreciate a "D3200 vs D5200 - What To Buy?" video in response to this one. I'm thinking it's time for me to step up from a PnS to a DSLR. I was closely following what you were saying in the video up to 3:52 when I immediately thought "Damn, that [D800e] is one sexy camera!" I honestly kid you not. :) As for the commenters criticising the Canon vids, yes, they're entitled to their opinion but I don't get the Canon hate. I'm not a Canon guy but I'm still interested in their gear.
at the moment i use bridge cameras and have been learning how more complex photographic equipment works and im ready to by my first slr this summer. should i jump straight into the 600 or work up from the 1100?
I am soon to be working as a freelance wedding photographer, which Canon D-SLR would you recommend with regards to not only the 1100D & 600D but other Canon models too? Thank you.
For now i am just enjoying getting out at much as i can and reading books etc to improve my photography. Portrait photography would be something that i would love to try, but I feel like it wouldn't be the best suited type of photography for myself as i am a permanent wheelchair user. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The plastic on the 1000D was annoying: I did bought my 350D and 1000D for the same price, but with some years in between. Well... the 1000D did literally did feel like an downgrade just because of build quality. When you use a camera over years, such things really gets an issue: The camera is an outdated model either way, but the plastic does not get better. Now I prefer an older camera with good build quality over a newer ones which just feels cheap.
I have a 1100D and I'm trying to put a Magic Lantern in it. Can you please show a video on how to do this much clear and is Magic Lantern v.2.3 safe for 1100D? Thanks :D
it's important but it only works with small particles and all this kind of things, if something is inside the camera you need to clean the sensor manualy
I just bought the 1100D just from price alone i wish i had more money so i could have bought the 600Dbut i did get a 18-55mm lens and a 75-300 lens bundle which was still cheaper than the 600d body and 18-55 mm lens, which was £50 more. I'm still happy with my first DSLR though :-)
Something a lot of reviews miss is that the 600D has an infrared flash trigger built in, and can be remotely triggered by an infrared remote, such as the RC-6 or even the 270 EX II's trigger. This was actually significant for me as I bought the 1100D and hit some hurdles getting into strobist work, the 600D would allow you some amount of IR triggering before you move up to RF..
What made me decide between the two was going to a store and try them out. I found that the Canon 100D was very uncomfortable thanks to it's small size(I have pretty big hand and my fingers started to hurt after only using it for 10-15 minutes..). And since the canon 100D was only slightly better spec wise I bought the Canon 600D. Can't tell anything more about the camera though, have to wait another 2 weeks before it's my birthday...
The price of the 1100D has really tumbled and the rest of the entry range less so. Recently picked up the basic 1100D up in a sale for half the price of a 600d. Not really any question at that price point.
Yeah its worth cause after 6 months a begginer will probable want better photo so he will have no to buy a new one and try to sell the other (except if he is not poor XD)
Its not about the model. It is all about how you compose your image. I own 1100D and been using it even in wedding photography using only STM lenses but got a woderful output. Just be creative.
I would love to but I'd have to drive over 100km's to find a store with D3200. And that means go by a bus for me and that's really expensive as I am a student. I'd be getting the camera for Christmas and would be ordered from the web. That's why I asked ;)
hi i am newbie , i want to know wheather .. dslr help me shoot long distance photos with gud zoom or any advvanced point and shoot Can u suggest best of both dslr or adv point shoot And cams in each thing thanx in advnace
The swivel screen really isn't that great feature for me, I had it on the GH1 and didn't find it as much useful at all. From pictures I've seen I think the 24mpx sensor has a bit of edge over the D5100 as far as noise goes (it does this nice filmy grain look) and the 24mpx just give me much more freedom to work with the photos. Also by DXoMark the D3200's sensor is 14th overally. I think it's great :) If the D5100 was a bit cheaper and could do 720p 60fps (requirement for me), I'd think about it
I checked just now and the D5100 actually dropped. It's 70$ below D3200 aswell :D But I was quite disappointed with some things on the D3200 so I will wait for the D5200 :)
lets compare your 600D pic with my 1100D pic. Photography is about art, feel, taste and skill. In the tech spec, it is a large different, but I don't think so in the picture
But I could wait forever this way :/ I think D3200 is really good now and could last me for a few years. I could wait a year and then say the same thing and wait again etc etc.
In Moscow its not +50% for 600d or SL1 its almost 9000% cause -3500Rub (1100d kit) vs 550d kit -8000rub (same for Alpha 57 - 58 and A580) and -12000rub for 600d kit. And its like almost price d3300 kit -14000rub and d5200kit -13000rub. God bless UA! Peace and Love
Hi Matt, Thanks for the reply and I guess I'm not the only one who feels this way. Why can't the Canon gear be presented in the PhotoNewsReviews site. I think that would be better suited. Unless you can be like Kai Wong and trash the shit out of Canon gear haha. Canon Malaysia wants me to review the EOS M, but they can't give those things away in KL cause its to bloody slow like you said. Now they want to pass me a 6D buts its to late its already half past 6.
..I had tried my best to get 2000 Saudi Rial to get 1100d...and the price of 600d was 500 Rial more, but couldn't reach it coz I was done..I bought it finally .andf im really enjoying photographing .it's amazing though it doesn't have manual in video setting .but the video is great evenso ..also im not interested in recording video ...it's amazing Camera.
Hi all, your advice would be appreciated. I'm looking to start my own vlogs and need to get a camera. Don't want to spend more than £400 (used is fine). want one that will allow me to view as I'm recording, good mike and so on. which would you recommend? thanks in advance for your help. Bsp
for some people out there.. as reference.. Canon EOS 600D is also called "Canon Rebel T3i " and the Canon EOS 1100D also called is "Canon Rebel T3" in other markets around the world.
This was by far one of the best comparison videos for these 2 cameras! Thank you so much.
Just thought I'd say I subbed to your channel, as a Canon user, because unlike most channels you give useful tips that can be applied to photography no matter what you shoot. You also don't explain things that most photographers already know! Thank you very much for the info :)

I actually asked the local seller and they confirmed availability after Christmas or maybe even in 2013.
Thank you very much for this impeccable review. Now I know..
please make comparison about the new 1200D from canon... thank you. best wishes
Useful review I must say. I will go for 600D
at the moment i use bridge cameras and have been learning how more complex photographic equipment works and im ready to by my first slr this summer. should i jump straight into the 600 or work up from the 1100?
I bought 1100d to cut some money for 70-200mm f4L. I'm going to stick with this camera for awhile before going to 70d :)

Yeah actually I just found out they are also going to soon release D5200 and so far it seems like the cam that is actually worth it :D

can i make the same Photo with the two Cameras, i mean the same Modes ?
watch it - it is still there - just I rectify it
need difference between cannon 600d and canon 1200d, if you can, please post as soon as possible.

Hey Matt
Im a Media Student Currently desperately trying to find a camera for film projects and photography any ideas on what camera to buy?
I want to buy 1100D but i want to know more about that self cleaning sensor. Is it important?
Thank you so much for this review, I find it very use full :)
can you do a video on what lenses consumers with these cameras can buy. budget ofc
I am confused. Don't you have a reviews channel for reviews?
what would i do now? I bought canon 1300d
sure
I actually meant American dollars. But the D5100 with kit lens is $750 here
Honestly the 1100d is pointless, just spend the extra money and get the 600d or just go full frame... Canon 1d-c for the win!
Hi I want to buy a new Canon but I'm confused . 100D 600D ?
What made me decide between the two was going to a store and try them out. I found that the Canon 100D was very uncomfortable thanks to it's small size(I have pretty big hand and my fingers started to hurt after only using it for 10-15 minutes..). And since the canon 100D was only slightly better spec wise I bought the Canon 600D. Can't tell anything more about the camera though, have to wait another 2 weeks before it's my birthday...
Aha okay...thank you
TheeMisterPatrick Hey bro.how was your 600D Purchase? worh it?? :) Any new model you would suggest me since 600D Is bit old
thank god, you shaved that mustache!
NEIN
Unfortunately i found this out after the fact, but the 1100d also doesn't have wireless flash capability.
Hi Matt...I have Canon 1100D...can i use any external mic such as Vivitar to it?
Thanks you :)
No you can't it has no input.
There is no mic port so you will have to record sound then edit it in after
how about 1100D vs D3100 which one is better?
What was the mistake?
which camera is bigger canon 600d or 1100d?
Thankyou..Thats the best video with these two cameras...thanks
I was thinking more about comparison to different brands (Canon, Pentax, Sony). The D3200 seems to excell for 600$ with kit lens :)
hi. my canon 1100d, after change the lcd i found my camera button all of them not function.. please help me.. any solution of this issue??
what is the price of it?
The price of the 1100D has really tumbled and the rest of the entry range less so. Recently picked up the basic 1100D up in a sale for half the price of a 600d. Not really any question at that price point.
At the moment you can get the 1100d for £239 and the 600d for £379. For a beginner is 600d worth the £140 extra?
Yeah its worth cause after 6 months a begginer will probable want better photo so he will have no to buy a new one and try to sell the other (except if he is not poor XD)
The thing is, the 600D is technically a 550D with some extra features but in terms of image quality is almost exactly the same.
can i tell a question what is the best camera for video and photo thanks
Its not about the model. It is all about how you compose your image. I own 1100D and been using it even in wedding photography using only STM lenses but got a woderful output. Just be creative.
have you reviewed the H4D Medium format camera?
I would love to but I'd have to drive over 100km's to find a store with D3200. And that means go by a bus for me and that's really expensive as I am a student.
I'd be getting the camera for Christmas and would be ordered from the web. That's why I asked ;)
hi i am newbie , i want to know wheather .. dslr help me shoot long distance photos with gud zoom or any advvanced point and shoot
Can u suggest best of both dslr or adv point shoot
And cams in each thing
thanx in advnace
I love my 600D! It's just an amazing camera.
The swivel screen really isn't that great feature for me, I had it on the GH1 and didn't find it as much useful at all. Canon 600D vs Canon 700D vs Canon 1000D?? Or another with aprox the same price? (Going to buy one of these i think)
I bilieve you already got the camera, which one did you get?
So Which Canon Is Good To Do Music Video And Etc.........
?
I checked just now and the D5100 actually dropped. It's 70$ below D3200 aswell :D
But I was quite disappointed with some things on the D3200 so I will wait for the D5200 :)
i like the 600d and think tht will be better
is tht true?
Thank you so much. Just what I was looking for. :)
hey what about the shutter lag? does it matter?
Who is better? I don't know..
i know :D i have this canon ! is super
lets compare your 600D pic with my 1100D pic. Photography is about art, feel, taste and skill. In the tech spec, it is a large different, but I don't think so in the picture
The price difference in my country - 600D is 500 eur, 1100D is 345 eur - so too big difference for not that many features.
thanks
u wanna ask you did i make a mistake buying a 600d?
But I could wait forever this way :/ I think D3200 is really good now and could last me for a few years. I could wait a year and then say the same thing and wait again etc etc.
In Moscow its not +50% for 600d or SL1 its almost 9000% cause -3500Rub (1100d kit) vs 550d kit -8000rub (same for Alpha 57 - 58 and A580) and -12000rub for 600d kit. And its like almost price d3300 kit -14000rub and d5200kit -13000rub. God bless UA! Peace and Love
Did have a mic for canon 1100 ?
no u buy it
Hi Matt,
Thanks for the reply and I guess I'm not the only one who feels this way. Now they want to pass me a 6D buts its to late its already half past 6.
..I had tried my best to get 2000 Saudi Rial to get 1100d...and the price of 600d was 500 Rial more, but couldn't reach it coz I was done..I bought it finally .andf im really enjoying photographing .it's amazing though it doesn't have manual in video setting .but the video is great evenso ..also im not interested in recording video ...it's amazing Camera.
how about 6D ?
I was sure he was going to bang those 2 cameras together. I got nervous watching them being waved about lol
Really useful, cheers.
Hi all,
your advice would be appreciated. I'm looking to start my own vlogs and need to get a camera. Don't want to spend more than £400 (used is fine). want one that will allow me to view as I'm recording, good mike and so on. which would you recommend?
thanks in advance for your help.
