I agree totally. I was so wild about the handle I took a chisel and sorted them out. The size difference is a real pain. Why change something that didn’t need messing with.
Obviously Mark,we are all thinking the same except the ones who designed them. I think I’m going to take you up on the chisel option as they really get on my nerves. Same question I’m asking as sys 2 worked and never needed full redesign 👍😄
I haven't got any sys3, but you can probably sand down the latch to make it easier to open (or the handle which seems smarter since it's replaceable). But I can imagine they got compaints about the previous model not sticking due to wear, so it might resolve itself after a few years.
Hi Fletcher, yes I would imagine after years of use they will become much easier to open. Or there’s always the option you mentioned just to modify the handle. Thanks 👍😄
Another problem which I had not considered is since the handle folds the opposite direction you actually need that catch to prevent the handle from coming out when the lid is opened
@ that makes sense now. It’s only there to stop what you said happening. So if you remove the plastic tab the handle will fall out every time you open it. What a pain 👍😄
Thanks for the information. Honestly I don’t like tipping the systainers just in case something gets damaged. The original design works better mind just simply by lifting the handy. Thanks Jon 👍
The height change is definitely the worst problem. There are some great things like the L size, but messing with the really useful *system* of heights really screws over loyal customers.
I only have one "t-loc" style systainer, the rest of mine are all the sys 3, but I am very much annoyed with the front handle situation on the smaller sys 3 containers. So much of Festool's appeal is that everything works together, but there have been a few instances lately of incompatible tools/accessories. For instance on the new 1010R when you use the light module (what an oversight for so long, yes I want to see what I'm doing), you can't use the chip deflector at the same time. Not a huge deal, but it does reduce the mess if used, so why not make the chip deflector attach with magnets or something. I shouldn't have to engineer a solution myself, that's what I'm paying Festool money for. Thanks for another video! Rant over.
Yes,we are all finding things that annoy us. Hopefully one day they will address these for us. With the OF 1010 that’s a pain. It’s worse pain for me owing OF1400 that they haven’t included the light option yet lol 😂. With the chip deflector that would honestly p me off. Same goes for 1400 mind only certain size bits work with chip deflector. When in CMS I can’t use the dust extraction port which winds me up. Maybe Festool will make these extra parts to solve these problems Brad 👍😄
I agree that these new systainer boxes need to be fully backwards compatible or are too frustrating to own. I also want to comment on your shirt, I love it and own way too many in multiple colors that look just like it. 😂
I have the original Sys 1 systainers I got with my original Festool kit. The new Sys2 and 3 have a better single latch, the two latches on the Sys 1 are hard to release. Also, you need to put Sys1 boxers u er the two newer ones to get them to latch up together. I know what you mean about the Sys3 height, this threw me off and I had to adjust my Sys drawers to fit the newer Sys 3 two height box. Cheers
Cheers Alholston ,I only own 1 sys 1 but I only use it for storage. I know they are a pain to open. I feel your pain on reconfiguring you sys draw setup. Sadly I don’t get on with the new systainers 👍😄
I like the new single latch on the T Type and new Sys3 cases, they are much easier to open. Also, you can open a case locked under another unit, by just turning the latch and lifting it up, without having to unstick it. This works when the top sustainer is a single unit, like router bits or an accessory sustainer locked on top the of Router or drill box. The biggest issue is the new taller size of rhe Sys 3 boxes, which requires reconfiguring the drawer system. Cheers
@@alholston-smith7631 yes these are much better upgrades to the sys 1. I do understand the reason for straight handle on sys3 is for a spirit level but much prefer sys2 with bow handle. Thanks for those tips also will be checking them out. Maybe Festool will make sys3 boxes in sys2 sizes all my problems will be solved 👍
Yes they are available but not in great quantities. Unfortunately the problem then is trying to transfer over the old Systainer as the inserts do not fit. Modifications are needed to do this plus extra supports needed to keep the tools from not moving around in transit 👍
I hate that the corners are different and if you stack 2 with 3 you loose the stream line of a nice looking stack, that's just me but it does annoy me...
I think your gripe is more with Tanos than Festool as that's who actually makes the systainers for all these companies. I haven't looked into it but it's quite possible Tanos just isn't producing the T-Loc version anymore.
Hi yes they have stopped making the T-loc but you can still pick them up. Tanos is owned by Festool mind it’s their sister company. All I’m getting at is I’ve invested in a system and the changes are not as good as the T-loc system 👍
Yeah I know it’s not all their fault but they should have pushed for better design on sys 3. Sadly this new design has gone backwards. As we know it took away something that worked 👍
the quality control is not as good as well. If you pay attention to the corners of the new versus old, the wall thickness on the new rounded corner is not as consistent and it's prone to damages when closing the lid.
Now you have mentioned it I’m going to check that out. I’ve noticed the sys3 is harder to line up to get it to shut correctly. As you have mentioned this I would assume it’s because of thinner plastic that moves and distorts trying to line up to close the lid. 👍👍👍
I recently picked up a new Mirka sander which came in a Systainer 2. I genuinely thought that Mirka had worked with Tanos to make a few upgrades on their version, outside of the branding. All my other Systainers were 3's and this was my first 2. I didn't miss the side handle and the top handle was far better in every way. It even felt like the sys2 was made of slightly better plastic, but could be wrong. Even the design of the 2 is more aesthetically pleasing to me.
Hi LeeBee exactly my thoughts. It still blows my mind why the design changed. A bow handle always beats a straight uncomfortable handle in my opinion. I will say systainers don’t break easy so I’m hoping they will last 👍
@@markthomas5139 The need to click the handle into closed position is annoying. Also, since you mentioned the adaptation for fitting onto some sort of rail system, I can't unsee it now and just adds clutter to the appearance for a solution to something I don't intend on using. Glad to hear yours are holding up because I do sometimes worry that the plastic is the kind that might easily crack. I'm still surprised that the t-loc hasn't give way despite me often using the handle at the top of the stack to lift the Festool vac and multiple systainers.
@ everyone hates the clicking handle. T-loc handles didn’t use it so why add this feature, pointless. Yes I’ve done that on many occasions moving systainers with multiple systainers stacked on top of each other I’ve had one drop from a height a while back, the corner got damaged. They have a crumple zone in the corners to take the impact. It just slightly caved in. No crack or damage to the rest of the systainer. 👍
As the saying goes don’t fix something that’s not broken. Nightmare to be honest messing with storage you built having to adjust everything they have changed 👍
🤣🤣 100% right it was all about that level. It’s like going backwards on design like the wheel 🛞 we wouldn’t go back to square from round would we lol. 👍😄
To be honest it’s all about the new bott racking you can buy for your van. The new systainers have slots on the sides for the new racking to work. Sadly they already had good sys draws you could by to make your own racking. The new system used steel you bolt together. It looks neat but cost a lot more. The new handle on the front is to pull the systainers out of new bott racking. Rant over lol. The older system worked for me. I still use it as it’s a better system 👍

I just received my first new systainer with a tool purchase yesterday. . . . and thought immediately that the logo was upside down.
I know it’s really odd why they done that. The older systainers t-loc are much better 👍
turn the systainer 180 degrees/ and use 4 fingers first and thumb second to catch and release and pull the handle. That is the way it is designed
