AAP conceived this under “Rethinking Street Design” in 2020 and started with 16 streets as pilot project under PWD and total will be 540kms.

“Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that a consultant has been appointed for redesigning of the national capital roads on the lines of European cities and the project is likely to be completed by early 2023.
Chairing a review meeting, the Delhi CM said the consultant should submit the detailed project report by February 2021 for rapid progress of the project.
“The PWD should remove all hurdles in the redesigning of the city roads along the lines of European cities to complete the project within stipulated deadline,” CM Kejriwal said.
The consultant is responsible for preparing and submitting a detailed project report by February 2021 based on which tenders will be given and the operations will begin by June 2021, according to a government statement.
The development of these roads will be on the lines of the Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model and the construction company will take care of the maintenance for 15 years.”

In terms of design, it is very Indian - lots of focus on providing seating space, accessible markings (for visually impaired). Public seating is scarce in most western countries. The approach is more inspired from the eastern world with added Indian touch.
9:14 You can already see someone in 2 wheeler on cycle lane and many people walk on cycle lane. People also need to behave how they would if they visited Europe when our infra reaches that level and beyond

Amazing work by the Central Govt., keeping aside any differences with the local government. Delhi people will always remember this work of Union Govt. Hoping every city can have an atleast 3 such stretch spread across the city - this will motivate other localities to do something similar. Since funding needed is high - I think both state and centre fund should be used. Good for all of us.

Looks fairly nice with the greenery n stuff, just couple points though.
1: Those red bikepaths look like they have a shiny surface, shiny surface tends to mean slippery when wet.
2: The bikepaths have those weird pollards blocking bicycles from having a smooth ride, this will de-incentivize the paths intended use.

those narrow blockers are made while keeping the measurement in mind, they're narrow for reason because like there's no elevated difference between walking way and cycling space like in Chirag Delhi. To ensure public safety, those blockers will keep the rider on a maintainable pace.
All Indian cities should be made disable friendly walkable with dedicated cycle lanes.

Great to see heavy development happening in Delhi related to G20 and other events, whether kartavya path or airport, urban development in terms of metro, roads, security, beautification of pathways and so on. India should host more such summits in future. Kudos to central govt for such heavy investment in capital city. Hope the political bufoons will not hijack the credits.

Similarly the Varanasi should also be developed along mighty Ganga banks and ghats. Modi should get the inspiration from Arvind Kejriwal CM of Delhi.
Making the whole area of Delhi would be better than making a small pocket area developed, since it would spoil the area if only a small section is only developed and the rest needing beautification like this area. Providing security to women and tourists is another area you should seriously look into.
