Your room looks fantastic, May I make a suggestion? For safety sake, I would have your dad bolt that tall skinny shelving unit to the wall so it does not come tumbling down on your head and sore neck! even just to attach leather straps around the spindles at the top to the wall... also, you want more weight on the bottom shelves instead of the top to counter balance. I hope that helps hun❤

Thank you for the great suggestion! Bobby did that for me last week. The last thing I want was that thing tipping over on me❤❤❤❤

Hey Debi - some years ago, I had to move out of a house I had been in for 17 years - my house was always uncluttered, but it was decorated to the hilt & I had a lot of bins of extra decor in the garage - I do consider myself pretty much a decor hoarder - my friends have been known to shop my garage - and on top of it all, I only had 30 days to get out ! Fortunately, I have a friend who is an organizer extraordinaire & she was able to come help me or I would never have made it - and at night, just like you, I would watch reruns of Hoarders to get myself motivated for the next day ! So I feel your pain, but you’re doing great ! You’ll make it ! Blessings as always from sunny Central Florida! 🥰

Those hoarding shows man they shake me to the core but they do help motivate me. I got rid of a lot from my closet today. I bet your house is beautiful. ❤❤❤❤

Every person in your family has a unique personality and your personalities all blending together make up a beautiful unit. You each spark each other to go outside your comfort zones…you get your sister to be creative, your sister encourages you to be more outgoing…your dad is the anchor and your nieces are the icing on the family cake! Love your videos Deb, keep them coming.

When you see potential in everything it’s easy to get into a hoarding situation. I battle with it also. I am an introvert also and I have anxiety. So I have to do what your doing and every once in awhile get real with myself and clean out my potential hoard in order to get my anxiety under control.

You are the only person I know who loves these colors as much as I do. In out "new" old house, the living room has pink and red polka dot rugs, a red sofa, 2 turquoise floral chairs, a pink velvet chair in the reading nook and I just ordered 2 chairs in white, pink, red and turquoise floral. I am 69 years old and completely finished with anyone's opinion about my choices! And it's beautiful!!!!!!!!!

My house suffers some because I’m either at work or at my studio. Additionally, I know what it feels like to acquire more materials than I’ll ever have time to use. It’s a wondrous thing to see the projects and works of art complete inside your mind despite the frustration of never getting around to so many of them. You’re not dysfunctional, Debi, you’re an artist and a maker. We’re a different breed.

A quote pops into my mind: "A body at rest remains at rest, a body in motion remains in motion" or something like that. Its true. I, too, am an introvert, but work and family "force" me out of my comfort zone, which is vital for me. I do need my down time, but I have to keep it in check or I will want to stay there and be depressed.
You're doing great, Debi! Been loving your content for 8 years now, I found you at the lowest point in my life when my marriage was falling apart and I stayed in my bedroom for days at a time. I found your "painted sofa!" video, binged all your content, inspiring me to dream one day of having my own space. I have that now. I once met you and Jamie Ray at a workshop I participated in on Cedros years ago. Thank you.

I love what you did with your space It's beautiful.
I am an introvert also, I can be an extrovert when I have to be. Most of the positions I've had require that. Had to learn how to speak in front of groups of people and deal with situations involving hostile energies. For an introvert that is draining. My advice, what helped me, was self-care. What I mean by that is getting some alone time. Lots of prayer but not in anxious kind of way, just being grateful for what was going on in my life even if I wasn't happy about all of it. I also had to catch negative self-talk. Not being so hard on myself.
Lots of love to you. 💓
    .

You definitely have a knack for decor and color and I enjoy you sharing. I have a problem with getting rid of things also as everything has a purpose! I’m trying hard. Hi Debi!
As a 54 yo with fibromyalgia I completely understand what you mean about wanting to go go go but having a body that says no no no. Give yourself some grace. You are doing an amazing job decluttering. Thank you for sharing your journey so openly.

    • @karonmcgregor4753
      @karonmcgregor4753 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes!! I have the same problem. I am trying to redo my little home from top to bottom, but if I do too much the fibro kicks in badly, and I end up not being able to do anything at all. So I try to do everything in the mornings - especially anything that is "heavy duty" labour intensive, then rest in the afternoons. That way I can still chip away at something every day. But, it's a very long, slow, process!!

I-m going through the decluttering thing too. My husband had a bad motorcycle accident. He will be fine, but it will take months if not a year. He's in a wheelchair for now. Making pathways through an old house with tiny rooms and a ton of clutter is a real wake-up call. We don't need things! We need people! So much work. The family has really pitched in and we are hoping to have a nice party aoon, before the leaves fall? Before the snow flies? Prayers are appreciated for Mark in Ohio.

The chair turned out so cute! I'm an introvert. I don't like to shop though. I enjoy learning new hobbies and it's how I found you. I like to give my current furniture a new look and love DIY products for that. I"ve also learned to saw, grow vegetables and flowers from seeds, preserve my harvest, I've learned to use and design projects on my vinyl cutting machine. I'm teased because I'm organized and like to create excel spreadsheets for all the things, including managing money. I don't like to shop on-line as much as possible to avoid gas emissions from deliveries. I keep my clothes for yrs. then I donate them, when I get tire of them, and only shop to replace them. I'm creative, so I donate things or give them away, then I replace with new creations.

Absolutely LOVE the colors you use! Suggestion: Declutter a little bit one day a week for an hour!
I am a hoarder of craft supplies and books. To declutter my house when I retired, I chose to do it one room at a time. I started with my craft room. First step was taking an inventory. I saw that I had WAY more stuff than I could ever use. Then I held each item in my hands and asked myself if I really needed it. Could I see myself using it in the next 3 months, or one month? If the answer was no, I put it in the donation box. When I got down to the amount of things that seemed right, I bought a system of totes and shelves to hold everything. Then I listed everything in the totes on an outside label. So much better!!
Good luck on your journey, Debi!

We see things differently as creative people. We see what an item could be and then get excited about the potential. Unfortunately we just don’t have unlimited free time to make all our visions come to reality. That’s how we get into trouble. We don’t want to throw anything away because we lie to ourselves that one day we will get to it, we will start or finish that project. Then before you know it we have accumulated so much stuff and get overwhelmed and then depression follows. God definitely spoke to you through your pinched nerve. You slowed down and got to projects you’ve been wanting to do that you had no time for. You have to feel proud that you got them done. Your space looks so beautiful.

Loving watching the transformation and seeing your family. Your style exactly matches mine! Sadly, I was disabled in an bike accident and can't do too much on my own now and need a lot of help from my very busy husband. He's slowly painting my studio walls yellow. Your home is looking great!!!! I'm an extrovert and I find that I like introverts because we compliment each other. Find an extrovert like your sister to take advice from for organization tips since she is organized or Jami and Zeb who is somewhat organized as well. Just like you to be a teacher of paint to others, you need teachers of organization to surround you. Instead of trips to Home Goods, go to stores like the Container store that is an organizational store.

You are such an amazing and skilled artist. And I’ve said it before I think here that artistry just has that sense of chaos if you’re really creating, do you need to keep up with it yes and I think you’re seeing that now but please never stop creating you’re amazing And unique you are a gift to the world❤️❤️🌺❤️❤️

thanks for sharing your hoarding inclination. since I started furniture art, I have become a bit of a painting supplies and furniture hoarder. I can't seem to stop collecting either. Yesterday, I actually donated a few pieces I had collected, so that I could make room for a few pieces I had stowed in my car for storage. I'm also an introvert too and when I have free days, all I feel like doing is spending the day painting or working on my other hobbies: making homemade body butters, gardening and cooking. I think most artists are predominantly introverted personalities. I went out all the time in my twenties and 30's. Pushed myself to go out alone to concerts, festivals, etc. I eventually figured out I have social anxiety and being alone or only with 1 person at a time, is my comfort zone and brings me calm. Occasionally, I will buy tickets to events that I know I will enjoy and that is how i force myself to get out more. That seems to work best for me. Your video's inspire me. I love your color combinations. Thank you so much!!

debi- embrace your introverted self. if u force yourself to be an extrovert when u r an introvert u will become very unhappy. there is nothing wrong with being an introvert although the world likes to tell us there is!!!

Adorable. We all need a redo sometimes. I have an 81 sq ft shed……stuffed full of craft supplies. It’s and overwhelming amount of good stuff. I quit buying anything. I am making myself stop, reorganize, replace my temp shelving i made 6 years ago. I cannot do anything in there. Looking forward to a makeover..you are inspiring👍. Btw…your chair has been one of my most favorite things. That paint pour is amazing. Sad to see it go but your pink is lovely as well.

This video makes me feel so much better because the same thing is happening to myself. You work full-time and then you come home and all you wanna do is sleep when you know you gotta clean your house and then you sit there and watch it pile up and pile up and pile up and your unmotivated clean it because you’re too tired. I just started tackling one little spot at a time. And I’m still moving out of snails pace.

Everything looks so much better in your little office nook Debi. You did a great job! Many times when we have suffered loss, and sometimes when we've suffered money problems and a lack of financial freedom (free from stress and worry) for a long time, we begin to hang on tightly to "things". Because we are suffering from lack, a lack of funds, so we start to save things in fear if we don't save them then when we have a need for a new chair, desk, lamp, etc., we won't be able to afford to buy them. We tell ourselves we are being thrifty, reusing things, and saving money. But just the opposite is true. We are filling up the empty scary places in our hearts and in our bank accounts, with stuff, so that it doesn't feel so empty, and we don't feel so poor. We hang on to things because we are scared of losing things because we have suffered so much loss, or because we are poor in spirit, because we've suffered from a lack of sufficient finances for so long. So we buy things we don't need because it makes us feel happy and not so poor in the moment. After years of suffering financial strain, and losing my home to a house fire, losing all my childhood and family photos, my wedding photos, photos of our 3 children as babies and growing up, and photos of family who had passed away, the things I could not replace. I had lost my oldest sister 10 yrs earlier when she was just 36, then I lost my Mom in a car accident, then 2.5yrs later my Dad died from a heart attack (really a broken heart I believe). Then my house burned down and I lost all of the photos I had of them, and of my own children, and our family photos as they were growing up. And I found myself hanging on to a lot of "stuff" because I had lost so much. My husband and I have been in the antiques and antique auction business for a long time, so we were bombarded with lots of old vintage and antique "stuff" that just needed a little work, or that we wanted to fix up and use "one day", or a large antique piece we were saving to use once we could finally afford to buy our own home again. The next thing you know, we were paying for a storage building to store the stuff that we weren't using, didn't need, and did not have the time or energy to repair or fix up. If you can live without something for 6 months or more, you definitely don't need it!! I have to say, the most important "thing" I lost, that still hurts when I think it about it, are the pictures of my children as babies and at various stages of their life, and pictures of my parents, especially the ones of my parents with my children. All three of my children are adults now, our oldest son is 39, our daughter is 34, and our youngest son is 28. I just turned 58 September 18th, and my husband will be 65 October 18th. And as we age it gets harder to remember exactly what each of our children looked like at 1, or 2, etc. I know I will always grieve the loss of the people that I love, and I will always grieve the loss of those precious photos that instantly brought back cherished memories and moments in our lives, moments that are getting harder to recall as we get older. But God reminds me that there were no photos back when he walked the earth back in Biblical times. And that when I get to Heaven He has every stage and moment of all of our lives recorded, and I will see every image of my childrens lives and my own life, and my parents lives. But better yet, I will see each of them and spend eternity with them. And I don't need a lot "stuff" to try and hold on to them or the memories of them, my heart is filled with love for them, and no fire in Hell or on earth can take that away. The "stuff" only brings clutter and stress to my life. And I don't need to hold on to something "in case I need it one day". God will provide everything I need on a daily basis. If I need something in the future, then He will provide the means for me to go out and buy it. And I will have the pleasure of shopping for it and picking out the exact thing I want and need. I find it most helpful to give all of the "stuff" that I've been hanging onto, aka., "hoarding" to other people, I know that you know, it really is better to give than to receive, and I always feel happier when I can bless someone else and see how happy they are when I give them something they really like or need. And sometimes I sell the nicer antique or vintage pieces to buy something I really and truly need. It's a win-win situation either way. My home is much more comfortable and cleaner when its free of clutter. And my heart and mind work much better when they are free of the stress and care of clutter, and I am much calmer and peaceful when I'm not surrounded by a lot of "stuff" cluttering up my life. I even find it easier to spend time with God, read my Bible, and hear the voice of the Holy Spirit when I pray, when I am not surrounded by a bunch of unnecessary stuff. I hope this helps you to continue on your journey to freeing yourself from too much "STUFF". You are already on your way to a better life just by realizing you have the tendency to hoard to much stuff! Another motivator might be to think about how nice it would be for your dad and your boyfriend if they weren't having to always "fix" all of the "stuff" you bring home. Some junky old pieces on the side of the road really are just "junk". Or they may be an answer to someone else's prayers who really and truly need a table, or desk, or some other item that they truly cannot afford to buy, but they can make from that piece of junk. So the next time you pass an old piece on the side of the road, instead of dragging it home and sticking it in the corner of your tiny yard, or giving it to your dad or bobby to create something out of. Maybe you can say...."yes, that piece could be made into something nice, but I don't need it, and maybe someone else really does, so I'm just going to leave it there, for them." God bless you Debi, I love your honesty and willingness to share your vulnerabilities with all of us. That takes real courage, especially for an introvert. I know, I have been married to the most amazing introvert for 34 years. I tell him that he is the only person I know who could be stranded on a deserted island for years, all by himself, and be completely happy! God bless you~

What a great inspiring video Debbie! I’m in the holy terror midst of decluttering and reorganizing my craft/creative room and watching this video is timely! It’s a huge job, I’m on day 4, doing 3 to 4 hours a day. It’s like I have a mini craft store and way too much stuff. I love it tho. 🤦🏻‍♀️. Love your desk! I have the same type, slightly different drawer and design detail on the side bookshelves, but same era of style. It has a drawer on either side as it’s meant for two people to work facing each other. (I share it with my kitty cats😺). Now I’m thinking to paint it. The neck support looks like a great idea. How perfect to watch TH-cam ideas while you do self care! I hope your neck feels better.🥰

The wall is super cool but I have to say the yellow desk is my favorite part about this video! As an introvert mysekf, I totally get being a homebody, but those times when I do (against my will basically) get out and go for adventures with the people I love, I always have a fantastic time and wish I did it more. P.S. Seeing those shelves (repainted) and stocked with all the amazing DIY products is like a dream!!! Still saving my pennies to get some making powder! But I'm so stuck on which to get! I'd love some advice!

You've done a great job! I need to do the same. I keep buying stuff for a project then find out I already bought it. I don't have a problem ditching things. I need to take time for my stuff, and stop using helping people as an excuse not to get myself organized. I have to agree with your Dad "finished" is a great word.

Hi Debi! Another introvert here, and I love being one. I used to think something was wrong with me, not doing like so many others following the same path as everyone else. It is so nice be off on another path, you see more, you feel more, and you do more in your own unique special way, how cool is that?! You have the courage to be yourself, enjoy the adventures! And that rug, it's so happy looking and I simply love it!!:))I look forward to your videos so much, thank you for sharing your life and your dear lovely family with us!!:)) Joy and happiness to you always!!:))😊

Your wall and desk are looking awesome and the shelving your dad made is perfection. Also an introvert, trying not to procrastinate as I’m building myself a clientele in the cleaning business 😉. I also have a tiny house with not much closet space. I’ve been watching these on Netflix, hope it can help. The Home Edit, with Joanna and Clea and Marie Kondo with her spark of joy. If it makes you feel better, my dad was a hoarder - he had piles and piles and piles of stuff just rotting away because he never followed through. You, however, use the things you collect and make 'new' things from them...to me that's not 'hoarding'. You have 'piles' but they're not a wasteland of dead dreams. You move energy [very inspiring!]

Debi, your nook looks beautiful! I especially love the chair refresh! A close family is most definitely a huge blessing in this crazy world. 🙂
Sadly, I can relate all too well to your neck situation, as I suffered an injury a little more than a week ago that resulted in a pinched nerve in my neck too. It was funny, in hindsight, as I tripped over my granddaughter as she dropped to the floor in fear of a red wasp that flew into the house (she was fine!). I was paying attention to the wasp, attempting to shoo it back out the way it came, and hadn’t realized that Miss Lydia dropped to the floor 2 steps ahead of me and pulled a throw over her head! I pray that yours heals quickly. It is definitely easy to overdo things - ask me how I know…so take it as easy as you’re able to. The tasks will still be there when the inflammation eases, and you’ll be at less risk for more damage. ❤️
