Thanks Randy. I am glad you continue to remain curious and experiment. Your approach keeps your channel fascinating, leaves me wondering what Is Randy up to in his shed this week. Please don’t stop!!!
Thank you so much for saving me from doing this experiment. I have been thinking about this subject for quite a long time. You are a good man I don't care what your wife says about you!
The fresh corn has moisture or water in it so you end up with less corn by volume than the dent corn. If you soaked your dent corn before weighing it I bet it would be the same. Sweet corn just has more of the sugars present without conversion. Great to see people still going back to where it all started, with corn
Ive used bloody butcher my last couple runs. Its definitely more flavorful. We will see how it is in a few months after it’s finished on charred oak cubes. It seem to becoming popular at the local brewers supply. They have blue hopi too. I will try it soon.
Randy when you blended the sweet corn I am thinking you should not have added any water to it? Smashed it all up put it in the pot then add the same amount of water the reading might of been higher??
Surprising result to me given the amount of water weight in sweet corn. High starch to sugar (dent) vs less starch to sugar ratios would become irrelevant after conversion.
Have you ever used the stuff they cost Sweet Feed I think you can get it from like a southern states or Tractor Supply let me know if you've ever used it
@@stillworksandbrewing try some silver queen corn cut it off the cob and cut the cob up and use some malted corn with it and use bread yeast for a 5 gallon batch you will love it
If you used 1lb of dry and 1lb of fresh, and we consider the water weight in the fresh corn. It seems to me that there would be a lot more corn in the dry pound. That would give a higher gravity reading. You should try it again and account for water weight.
@@stillworksandbrewing I checked, and Tractor Supply does not carry organic corn. Plus I have not found any sources available here in Central California. Thus I order it from Michigan, which includes a hefty shipping cost in the price.
Hi Randy. Great videos! Thanks for keeping the topic light and enjoyable. I would love to mash in with you sometime. Maybe that's against the rules because I don't have a youtube channel.
Dude, you need to glue some soft materials to your ceiling to deaden the noise and and get your sound under control. Guarantee this will improve your viewership. Just glue some old comforters to that metal roofing, it will greatly improve the echo and harshness. I honestly love your videos, but I have to start drinking three hours before I watch one, so I don't get PTSD from listening to it.
It's not his recording....it's your ears, clean the shit out sometime. Also, drinking with PTSD can lead to suicide....don't let that give you any ideas though 😉
Hey Randy. Up to 11.5 k subs! Congrats and always look forward to your new videos. Shine on !
Thanks 👍 I'm just having fun cheers my Friend

all I can say my wife likes spirits
@@stillworksandbrewing What about doing the same test dextrose (corn sugar) vs table sugar (cane sugar)? Do you think they are equal PPG?

Yes, we know how very much they shrink and also their potential.
Good experiment. I can use this data for my own personal use. Thanks.
Have fun
Aw man a tropical cyclone just flattened what corn I had left growing

You're welcome!

no i have not but i do get my dent corn at TSC
How about using sweet pea
interesting
There was some sweet corn left in your blender and as Jay mentions bellow, dry vs wet. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
cheers
Be interesting to see other types of corn; flaked, Bloody Butcher, Jimmy Red etc.
have to keep in mind thanks
I use dried silver queen corn from the field and it makes a hole lot smoother liquor i have not used bag sweet corn
this summer i want to try a sweet corn bourbon I did make a sweet corn corn liquor it was nice

@@stillworksandbrewing i use about 10 ears per gallon

my thinking is if i got a bunch of fresh corn what to do cheers
The lowest price that I found online for 50# of organic yellow corn is $80.
wow i can get 50# of corn at TSC fo 16 18 dollars here in USA

You can't compare dry corn to fresh corn......fresh corn is over 80% water, you'll never get a fair and accurate comparison.
The idea is if I get a bunch of fresh corn was do i need this was fun cheers
Where do you get your dent corn and do you buy it whole or cracked?
I get it at tractor supply and it is whole
@@stillworksandbrewing I get their cracked. I am afraid the whole would be hard for me to grind with my grinder.

I tell you what, I would bring #10 of bloody butcher that I grew in my back yard!
What part of the world are you in just round a bouts
@@stillworksandbrewing Its the state of Utah.

PPG=points per pound per gallon.
Points per gallon ok I'm writing these down Randy. I messaged you on a previous video about Sweetcorn.
yes i remember you gave me the idea thanks cheers
Hey this is so awesome!!! We are learning everyday with our dry mature SC!
Try malting your dent corn and see how it compares to fresh sweet corn.
I buy flaked corn..
dont have to cook it
Knows what field corn does yet, still tests for thc...
Kinda wacky imo
