Thanks for the video. I loved the elephant. I am going to try making mine with the button joints now, instead of buying the plastic joints, which can run into a lot of money over time.
Very neat! However, I don't always like the look of the button on the outside. I was wondering if you have ever heard of someone stuffing the body then putting the buttons on the inside of the legs so you don't see them, and then stuffing and finishing the limbs?? Have you tried that? If so could you make a tutorial on it? Thanks for the video! Looks great!
I usually really like the look of the buttons, so I haven't tried the method you mentioned, but there are special joints you can use for exactly the look you describe. I'm almost positive Abby Glassenberg has a chapter on them in her book Stuffed Animals. I reviewed the book here - www.shinyhappyworld.com/2013/06/stuffed-animals-concept-construction.html. I loaned out my copy so I can't check for sure.

Wendi, Don't know if you are still in the stuffed animal business, but I have a very, very large dinosaur that I'm having trouble getting the button joints on. I actually need a 10" doll needle. Any suggestions?
I don't think I've ever seen a needle that long. I'd check at fabric stores, but also at hobby shops - like for model building and things like that. I've often found unusual craft tools there. It may be that you'll have to use a different kind of joint - like the kind that you insert before stuffing and then snap together. I've never used that kind, but Abby Glassenberg covers it in her awesome reference book Stuffed Animals.

They can be costly and depending on where you get them they don't even work properly.

Can you do this technique with any size animal plush? I make 15" teddybears. Would this work for them?
Yes - you'll just need to choose a button size that works for whatever you're making.
