  • From Houston, September 3, 1982. Wild bout between the popular "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas and the unpredictable Mongolian Stomper! AMAZING post match promo to set up cage match as Atlas delivers it while "out here hurt, my head bust all open", all because of that low down "Bagolian Stomper", and the "slake in the grass" he's become. Loved Atlas here! Please comment if you like it & want to see more!

    Great feud. Archie and Tony did it in Georgia as well. It was amazing to me as a kid, that the Stomper could only speak English when he was in Canada. I'm glad there was no internet back then, I was happy believing everything.

      they probably didnt like e ach other, whether he was mongolian is irrelevant

      @@micheleblomont9147 I'm sure they got along fine irl, especially with all the money they made together.The Mongolian gimmick was totally the point, a character like Afa and Sika or Kamala. Archie Gouldie was a Canadian football player, he pretended to be a mostly mute psychopath from the Far East (like Gorilla Monsoon had done in WWF, even Nicoloi Volkoff played the role of either Beppo Mongol at one point) so the heel managers (like Don Carson and JJ Dillon) could do the talking and whip up the local US crowds.
      He dropped the Mongolian gimmick in Canada, because people knew who he was. Archie the Stomper could talk and even grew hair, eventually turning face against Bad News Allen.

      That's true. Neither he was from Mongolia nor he was unable to understand and speak english. Great performance!

    I watched Florida (w/Gordon Solie) wrestling in Puerto Rico before my dad retired from the Navy in 1968. I remember it was dubbed in spanish which i understood because i was born in PR.... What a shock to hear Gordon speaking in English when we moved to Florida after my dad retired. Been a fan of wrestling since...

    Don Carson and Dick Dunn tag team in Australia 1973. The Stomper wrestled here as well. He made a few tours.

      Everyone had a stereotype of some sort, so the same gimmick could be worked and understood in different territories. Blacks and Polynesians had hard heads, Italians and Hispanics had fiery tempers, hillbillies were easy-going until riled, Germans had powerful claw holds and Asians had deadly chops, Polish wrestlers were strong but dumb ... and so on. That's just how it was.

    • @larryfloyd4993
      @larryfloyd4993 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dave conley , you are so right... and don't you miss , .. holds like the iron claw, the abdominal stretch, . the spinning leg tor hold... back breaker , ..ect.. as finishing holds.. and time limits, and weights and home towns.. before the matches.by the anouncers... give me the semi real days.. more fun then...
