  • "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes squares off against "the Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff in this unique and interesting "Coffin Match." From the Sam Houston Coliseum, October 24, 1980. Watch "the Dream" a slippin & a slidin' & a peepin' & a hidin'. Oh, yes, the both bleed "profusely". Does anyone think that Dusty would have even fit in that coffin?

That is the funniest description I've ever heard/read of Bronco Lubich's counting style. You hit it on the head, Mr. Lubich was by all accounts a very nice guy but I've always heard he was kept around as a referee by Fritz Von Erich in Dallas (even though this match is from Paul Boesch's Houston Wrestling) as kind of a favor since he'd been a great wrestler at one time in Dallas in the 50s and 60s as a contemporary of Fritz. But yes, that short count that took forever to start because had to position himself first was strange, ha ha!

@@juancarlosblanco5009 Bronco had a pretty decent career in the 1950-60s for a few territories (Mid-Atlantic being one of them) and I believe he owned a piece of the Dallas promotion and was the guy who handled the nightly "Draws" (advances on what a wrestler would make each week, usually for gas money or beer money). Bronco was the referee the night Jack Brisco beat Harley Race for the NWA title.
