THANK YOU! This made so much sense. Others would say rotate a dart but never explain it!

So glad you liked the video! There are so many ways to rotate darts that I figured a quick primer would definitely be useful. I'll probably be doing more of these videos in the future, just so that they're clearer to do from pattern to pattern!

So glad the video helped!! It can be such a tricky technique to think about, but once you feel free to move the pattern around, it can be quite fantastic!

This could not be more timely for me -- thanks! I'm making the "smooth sailing" blouse from Wearing History and I need to create some more gathers. You make it seem so easy!

So glad the video will help! I was thinking of shooting other small vids just kind of doing the changes as I indicate in the video, just in case this one seemed confusing, but I'm glad this helped as a starting point!

Heyyyyy Bianca, so happy to see you and THIS video. I definitely have to do this quite often and don't necessary do it the best, so it's good to see an actual video. I am reading my sewing books as well, but I am more of a visual learner.

Thanks for the brilliant explanation. You are the FBA Queen. I love your videos, they make so much sense. Now I have to stop watching all the videos and get to the making. Turning Puter off now, opening pattern pieces.............(will make FBA, I can do this)

Haha thank you so much for your comment!! I just looked at my FBA playlist and I don't have a video that is just the basic, straight forward FBA! I'll have to add that to the list, since I know it can be intimidating! Don't give up, though!!

Hi Bianca, Extremely useful video as always. I'm also glad to see you back and hope that you feel recharged. :-) I'm very new to fitting, and I was wondering if the dart rotation is always something you do because you have a fitting issue to address? Or is it something you could just do to play around with the pattern and create a different style? I've never done it before, but the idea seems to be similar to something that was touched upon in an introduction to draping course that I did.

I'm so happy to be back, Fiona!!
And actually... the answer is BOTH! Dart rotation is one of the tools of fashion design, moving darts around, changing them to gathers, combining them, splitting them up. Take a basic bodice and move the darts anywhere, and bam, new design.
Luckily, because the dart can go any which way you want it to, the rotation helps so much for fitting. You can generally keep the same design of garment by shifting the darts slightly-- but then again, if you really wanted to just make a new garment overall, just move the darts as you see fit.
      Hope this helps!

Gotta ask...where do you get your bras? I so want to revamp my drawer to get rid of my old or ill-fittjng ones and get at least a couple of descent ones.

I tend to buy Vanity Fair bras, just because they tend to fit me so much more comfortably than most! This one is my go-to: www.vanityfairlingerie.com/bras/underwire/beauty-back-tailored-full-figure-underwire-bra/76345.html (I think I have like... 4 or 5 of these haha)

Ahh! I didn't realize. I thought a dart was just removing an area so it always confused me. No wonder I trashed so many attempts.
Hey, I know this video is really old but would you be able to make some explanations of pattern types and show finished work examples of them? Not needing to sew everything from scratch, just whatever's in the closet or pictures online and how that pattern would look like for starting? Much appreciated!!!

    • @VintageonTap
      @VintageonTap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for your comment! To clarify- a video showing a type of design/pattern + finished versions of them to see what they look like out "in the wild"? Just want to make sure I understand the ask :)

@@VintageonTap Yeah, something so we can better understand how a dart drapes the fabric differently and affects the overall look. Maybe suggestions for different body types various styles of nips and tucks because honestly, trying to figure out a style with limited sewing skills and how that would look after the fact is really hard. (Cursing the monthly bloat)

In order to close the full amount of the dart, the dart legs must meet up, not from the center leg of the dart.

Sorry about that! Unfortunately my experience with SBAs has been super minimal since I rock a DD-cup ☹️
