    i'm really impressed with this. Line 6 has really moved forward lightyears the last few years. I've had a DT25 for a few years now and i love it!

      I don't actually own this product as it isn't out yet, so I'm not sure. It probably does though. As shown in the video it does pretty much everything.

      Matt Davis NO. Unless they change things, it will no longer control the DT amps topology, etc. They suggest using MIDI at this point.

      I'm just repeating what the Line6 staff are reporting to us on the Line6 forum. I'm disappointed because I have 2 DT25HDs and DT50HD with a POD HD500X and JTV89F. Also, they just reported you can not use Monkey with the Helix. There is a new Updater program. This means you can't use Workbench for your JTV via Helix as an interface. I hope you got the VDI USB Interface when you bought your JTV if you get a Helix. The Helix is a very cool box by the way. I'm just not sure it's right for me at $1,500. I still get great tones from my $500 HD500X.

    This is one of those really rare review items that are actually worth watching an entire hour of video on because of the sheer amount of features. I thought it was going to just be a bit of explaining and then sound demos, but new stuff just keeps getting explained. That expression pedal parameter editing is a fantastic idea.

    I absolutely love the fact that when he changed from having the Victory bypassed, you could hear the difference! The voicing on the Victory is so unique, love to see that it doesn't just get thrown away to make space for the pedal sounds. This pedal is truly unique!

    Awesome playing, Rob! Also... It's nice to see how open and receptive you were to this product. I feel like it's really trendy to hate on Line6 and digital modeling, and I know you're a valve guy, but I really respected your open-minded interest in this and what it has to offer. Best wishes to you and the awesome folks at Andertons and Dorje, from Kentucky! Rock on!

    Rob always wants to play with gain. Lee always want to play clean. Lee wanted Rob to play clean, but he never did. Lee had to start playing is the videos so that we could hear what the gear sounds like with a dirty tone AND clean tone. Rob disregards Lee's feelings and sometimes adds dirt and/or distortion while Lee plays. Lee doesn't want to confront Rob about his feelings. This is a real life soap opera.

      colossalcow Lol I noticed that too. The reviews were good cos we heard the differences the guitar and player made. Not everyone likes high gain a la Chappers all the time. Pauls strat , Lees LP and Chappers ML(/?) gave a great cross section of the sounds of the Helix.

    Guess this is "a peace of cake" for Paul: presenting a good product is so much fun ... don't have to say much .... and the usual answer on any question coming up is: "yes it can!".
    You can always got through the usual "it's digital"-discussion ... so let's skip that by saying: plug in your analog stuff in the loops of the Helix.
    What i like most:
    - the user interface is just great!
    - big color display
    - assignable displays for every knob
    - easypeasy to tweak: -> Cap10
    - really works in conjunction with a high class amp!
    And the sound is - undisputedly- GOOD! .-... good enough to do about any gig, good enough for any top40 band ... jingle studio work ...

    I love how some axe-fx fanbois are already so defensive about the Helix that they resort to the same arguments they criticize so much when people argue amp+pedals vs. axe-fx.
    That, coupled with the price point, probably means Line 6 will do really well with this.

    Good product from Line 6, it must be the 50 year old Tonewood Line 6 used to make their new Digital Processor Chip for the Helix, I can really hear the Tonewood CPU coming through even with Digital Processing, high output humbuckers and ultra high gain distortion as demonstrated.
    I bet a broomstick, strung up and fitted with high output humbucker going through the same high gain patch will sounds as good as a Gibson R8/9 or chapman guitar..Nice One Line 6, job well done.

    At 8:15 to 8:32 Lee was really wanting to ask how would this work with the DT amps from line 6. When this video first came out he said an amp that has 4 channels, but now it's muted out at 8:27-8:28. Line 6 sold these amp as flagship a few months back and now they are avoiding answering questions about the link. This is a desired product but it makes you not trust line 6. You can bet that behind the camera they wanted to Know how the Helix would collaborate with the DT series amps.

    I feel this is for a very specific type of guitarist:') I'm more of the simple guy where it's just my guitar, tuner, amp:') But I guess the good thing about this is that you can make it as complicated as possible..:) But I doubt you'd buy this if you were someone who only had a few pedals... But still, this looks like a thing which you could have an unlimited amount of fun with!

    • @JELIFISH19
      @JELIFISH19 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BlackVelvet Even if you were that type of guitarist (I am as well), it offers great recording options. You can buy a a good amp for cheaper but when you add mics and an interface, you're going above the price even if you just go cheap and simple like a SM57 and a cheap interface. Then you have to ask yourself if you have a good recording environment. If not, this is a great purchase if you're recording.
      It can be good for live use as well if you don't want to bring your 50lb amp to gigs.

    one thing I've always wanted to know is what's more important in tone, the guitar or amp/pedals? I've only recently gotten back into electrics (previously played a lot of acoustic) and play an epi 335 through a blackstar ht5, and I love the tones, but I have no frame of reference as to whether it's due to the amp or guitar! I think it'd make for a great comparison video if you're low on ideas! All the best

    I was wondering if you also recorded this just using room mics so we can judge the sound by how it's sound interacts with the room. The mics you use when you guys talk. Thanks.

    Seeing that I'd only really need 4-6 tones, everything else is just a bonus. I'll get one at some stage.

    Does the Helix have any preset tones from the factory, or is it all blank, awaiting the user's magic to fill it up?

    i'm assuming it does (so its kind of a stupid question) but does it have noise gates and compression etc?? would you be able to put the noise gate absolutely wherever you want in the signal chain just like you seem to be able to with everything else? And finally: awesome video as always

      I must ask you chappers, you being british and all, why is their hardly ever any priest or maiden riffs, or inspired riffs (due to copyrights and what not), or even honorary mentionings of the bands? Im figuring the NWOBHM must have been as big an influence on you as anyone else, plus its awsome music :-)!

    Amazing video, gonna buy one but....... Running the Helix through a PA system or FRFR speaker allows you to benefit from all the amps loaded in the Helix. Connecting a tube amp (like my DT50) though only gives you the 100+ pedals and not the amps because the tube amp wil colour your sound. Is this correct?

    This thing looks amazing and I want one. My only rational reason not get one is the price. I have an m13 and i just can't see myself buying one of these at that price when I have an m13.

    Been using line 6 for a while now. I have the Pod 2 .. Still use for convenience and a great back up for live. Have gone old school with effects pedals, thought I'd try them out.
    Now I heard there was a guitar/meme competition????

    Rob I absolutely love your videos and you are an amazing guitar player. I have 2 questions for you: 1) Is there any way I can contact you privately to ask a few in depth questions about guitar playing and such? 2) I just bought a Line 6 POD HD500x last night, and it is being shipped to me now. I don't know a whole lot about these effects processors so could you tell me what big differences there are between the Helix and the POD HD500x? Aside from the more obvious foot switch led screens and color customizations. They look very similar to me and seem to do just about the same things, but I know I must be wrong.Thank you in advance for answering, and keep doing what you do!

    I was doing four cable method with a digitech gsp21 legend and a modified Marshall in 1990. It seems like everyone is doing it now. Definitely the best overall control of your tone if you like to use scenes and switch between the preamp in the amp and super clean with effects it's the only way to go.

    What is that song that Rob always seems to start playing in these recent videos (around 21:19 in this video)? He did it in this video and I saw him do it in that last Ibanez video with the built in effects thing as well. The riff sounds really cool and I'm wondering if it might be a song of his that I could check out.

    I run a Helix with 4cm 100% wet in my Marshall rig and it sounds amazing. The first one after TC Electronics G-Major that I tried that sounds good but Helix is modern in UI/UX and really easy to work with.
    If my Helix dies I would buy another one. It's now essential in my 4cm setup and sound.
    Simulation of Amps/Cabs sucks tbh if you know how to play a real Big Rig. Only simple chords and rythm playing works well rest lacks way too much. So don't be fooled by people claiming the simulation is as good as the real deal. It's just better than Guitar Rig 5, that's it...
    But it's a BEAST using all effects and the endless connection possibilites and MIDI command output to control your big rig (like 410H) with one stomp box.

  • @guitorb
    @guitorb 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Line 6 is on top of it! Not meaning "on top of it" like that Plimsoul with the pedal board cables. But "on top of it" in a good way.

    Question, if you have an external stompbox like a Strymon BigSky plugged into this, can you save different presets of the BigSky to different footswitches on the Helix? Or can the footswitches on the Helix only be used to turn the BigSky on/off and you'd have to switch through the presets only on the BigSky?

    I get it but my own rig is so basic (15w Orange combo with an overdrive/boost) that I just don't need it and nor do you. You don't need to own a B&Q just because you use a hammer and one day might also want a chisel. It kills the G-Nova I suspect rather than Ax. It's tough I also don't think this needs to go through a £2000 amp, it shouldn't matter
