I just saw them in January and I don't remember breathing through the entire concert. They are truly breathtaking! I was close enough to where I could see him doing this and there are no words to describe Tool except for perfection!!
I was at this show. It was AMAZING! I had box seats for this one. Danny usually wears the jerseys from the stadium he's playing. He's wearing Larry Bird's number here in Boston. This was November 2019. Danny Carey is my drummer idol. I follow Tool up and down New England whenever they go on tour. I've been doing it since the mid 90s. My absolute favorite band. I'm so happy you're part of the Tool Army! Welcome !

The soundtrack to my life for 30 years, it's truely wonderful to see those from different musical backgrounds getting to hear and enjoying the experience that is Tool.
around the 8:53 mark watch the drums he's using in his pattern. He slowly takes them out 1 by 1 as it builds up until it's just he high tom and snare and then into the double pedal. That is how you build suspense in a song and it's brilliant.
I mention this on Danny Carey Pnuema reactions, sounds kinda goofy to say but his posture is perfect, his back straight up, shoulders back, his drum throne set at a height that his legs are 90 degrees, gives him so much room for reach and his torso can pivot correctly for longer fills to his floor toms, he is a true professional drummer and musician with decades of dedicated practice and experience; the basketball jerseys are fitting because he plays his drumkit like a pro athlete.
Danny makes us realize just how mortal we really are...we could practice 12hrs a day for the rest of our lives, and still not be a tenth of what Danny Carey is. A true wonder that will be remembered for generations to come.
I’ve been playing for thirty years, Danny’s level is an unrealistic goal. It’s not that he can play this, because all of the top 1% can, it’s that he wrote it. And also maybe not all of the top 1%. They’ve got some incredible metal drummers out there, faster than Danny, maybe even technically better. But none of them have his mind and sense of injecting his soul into the music.
Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction; the musicianship knowledge you have prompted me to subscribe shortly into the reaction. The Tool Army can be brutally snobby and single-minded; pay no attention to the negative rhetoric you will receive if you don’t care for a Tool song. This band is amazing; experience them your way!
It’s crazy to me how well he keeps time while increasing force on rim shots while keeping the same strokes on that crazy sounding ‘tom’. His ability to pump the hi hat while hitting and mixing in every single drum is next level. I’m not a drummer. Please don’t hammer me for not knowing the terms. That said, great review!
Danny is thee premier mathematician and technician. As you progress into the TOOL catalog, you’ll find many songs where Danny has the snares off. It’s just another thing that makes him so creative !!!
Welcome to the Army! One of us. One of us. One of us!! I'll share a couple of quips I picked up from other reactions to this video: 1) Some drummers play to the 'click', but the 'click' plays to Danny Carey. 2) Danny went to the crossroads to make a deal with the devil. Nobody knows what Danny got out of it, but the devil learned how to play drums.
I’d recommend the Grudge with the outstanding outro next. Also, the greatest drums on Tool (apart from Pneuma I mean haha) will be definitely Rosetta Stoned, Ticks & Leeches, Lateralus and Forty Six & Two
If I'm not mistaken, that electronic pad under the ride (with the white playing surface) is a Korg Wave drum. Also, that's not a wood hoop on the snare. It's a bronze hoop to match the cast bronze shell. And yes, he's known for playing with the snares off. Danny used to play a kit made by Jeff Ocheltree that was made from melted down Paiste cymbals but I've heard it was insanely heavy. Great reaction man! Danny is a BEAST. Since you're a drummer, you should check out some of Matt Garstka's stuff with Animals As Leaders. He's another beast.
He doesn't hit the snare on the click we think he should but it works so well. Really changed the way i recorded back in the day. His drumming matches the guitar at certain pointS and then it syncs w the vocals. Absolute legend
that one drum that you mentioned liking it's a korg wave drum I bought one so I could play this song though I didn't realize he has the oldest 1st gen analog version I've got the lastest world version that's digital but still sounds great
The drum is a korg wavedrum. the other pads that you see are mandela drums . This makes you want to play drums.... or quit altogether. Loved this ! thanks!!
If you can master smooth doubles with both hands and your feet then you can do just about anything on the kit and others will think your awesome even if your just okay. Smooth doubles are what you should be aiming to master. Mr. Carey you may never be, but you can still be impressive.
Fun facts of the octopus 1. He does all of this without a click track! He says you just have to put yourself out there and be vulnerable. 2. He uses a marching snare 3. He doesn’t use snare wires on his snare.
I love Tool… but this video opened my eyes how great there are . Masterpiece . You should react to a New single „Opiate2” is the New version of Tool 30y old song .
Not sure who else is in your top 5, but if you haven’t watched Snarky Puppy for Larnell Lewis, he will shake up your top 5. Snarky’s What About Me is a great start. Or top 5 drum moments of Larnell Lewis (on drumeo). I hope you haven’t seen him. Would make a great reaction video.
Haha!! Welcome to our world, friend!! Now, please, please, please check out Primus. True musically enlightened fans the world over will concur, it doesn't get any better than Tool AND Primus. They are intrinsically linked as Danny Carey has played w Primus on tour, and Tim Alexander was the original drummer for A Perfect Circle. Both are Gods, and we've not even gotten to Les or Ler, yet. Go now, and listen to Tommy the Cat!
I ran backstage security for one of the venues on the tour where Danny drummed for Primus. The room was way smaller than Primus would normally play, but Riotfest was one of the owners of the venue. That's how we got Faith No More as well.
I know dick about the names of a drum kit…but it looks like he’s waving a wand as he goes down the the line hitting the cymbals(?). Greatest drummer alive right now IMO.
the only concert I'd go to... Now anyways! old af. seen them in 3 different states. absolutely nothing compares to them as artist. pink Floyd was a better overall SHOW, but musically sheeeit nobody comes close
Ummmm...if you are an Aggie...how can you be a Texas Rangers fan? Ya gotta replace dat hat holmes...with an "H-Town" crown. Go Houston Astros!!!! 😎😁😎 You get a like and a sub.
Trying to nod your head to Tool is futile, especially this song. They switch time signatures with Danny keeping the beat. It's insane he can stay on time so well, I'd be completely confused
Love me some DC, but Mike Portnoy has been peer reviewed as the best drummer ever for a good reason. The Great Debate is simply disgusting. Same for As I Am...
Your favorite drummer is an amazing drummer. This definitely allows you to see the greatness that is Danny Carey.
I just saw them in January and I don't remember breathing through the entire concert. They are truly breathtaking! I was close enough to where I could see him doing this and there are no words to describe Tool except for perfection!!
granted its like everybody elses song posting, but i have my front row vid posted for invincible in march. he's truly something else
Saw them the month after, and I dont think they played a song I know and love.

I know opinions are like assholes and everybody has one but this is the greatest band ever
I'm blown away by how amazingly talented they are! Welcome to the channel 😀

I share that opinion.
tool takes u to a journey every song...lateralus is the hly grail...keep going...tool army guides u thru this...greetz frm germany again dude
Hey! Welcome to the channel man! I couldn't agree more. Every time its a journey no doubt. Thanks for the extra push. See ya again soon!
TOOL fan since '93. I envy you. You get to experience it all for the first time. Welcome and enjoy the ride. 🤘🤘🤘
FUCK YEAH 👍👍👍👍👍👍 DOES THIS MEAN WE'RE OLD THOUGH????
YES IT DOES AND THANK GOD WE ARE!!!
This performance is one of the greatest. I've watched it a few times since they made this album. Glad you were able to see it man.
Hey whats up dude! This was an absolute pleasure to watch. I'm glad too. Almost got me inspired enough to pick my sticks back up haha.

Right on! 👍🏻
You are absolutely correct. Pure brilliance.
More tool pls! I have been a fan for almost 30 years now. You will not regret it.
Awesome reaction to an awesome drummer. Thank you, sir!
Thanks so much, Karl. Everything I have heard about him is true and level of skill is phenomenal! Welcome to the channel!
Loved you reviewing one of the most satisfying visual and audio recordings ever.
I,ve watched so many of these. The posture, strength and confidence always kills me...
Metal welcomes you, we're glad you finally made it home safe and sound!
Haha! Yes it's been a while but I'm back. Welcome to the channel dude!! 🤘🏾
Good reaction. Hard not to appreciate Danny and Tool in general.
Thanks, Ben! Welcome to the channel ✌🏾

I was noticing that as well!
Lucky to have been at this exact show!😃

Saw TOOL in concert in San Antonio thanks to my son. Beautiful.

Tool. The Grudge. Great vid, dude.
The universe blessed us when Dana and Maynard happened to live in the same neighborhood.
Oh wow! Didn't know that. It was meant to be! lol
Danny is thee premier mathematician and technician.
As you progress into the TOOL catalog, you’ll find many songs where Danny has the snares off. It’s just another thing that makes him so creative !!!
Danny might be the best..This show was here in Boston
Nice! The Celtics jersey makes a lot kore sense now lol.
great reaction to a legend, bro.
the sound is clean af for a live performance. sounds better than recording imo
Was thinkin the same thing!
Welcome to the Army!

I always crack up seeing Maynard watch by in the background, to a toilet break or whatever, just another day in the office. 😂
I’d recommend the Grudge with the outstanding outro next. Also, the greatest drums on Tool (apart from Pneuma I mean haha) will be definitely Rosetta Stoned, Ticks & Leeches, Lateralus and Forty Six & Two
Thanks for the recommendation, Sergei! Most definitely will be checking some of these out man. See ya next time!
Grudge is fantastic. I do think Rosetta Stoned is also a big drum song. Danny gets a lot of room to play.
I love this reaction!
Greatest drummer to ever do it.
Me encanta ver la cara de "hipnotizados" que tienen cuando intentan racionalizar lo que está fuera de la razón y la lógica... This is what happens when a master jazz drummer loves to play metal.

New subscriber! Love tool!!! Danny Carey is awesome!
The drum is a korg wavedrum. the other pads that you see are mandela drums . This makes you want to play drums.... or quit altogether. Loved this ! thanks!!
Great reaction, 👍
Their cover of Zeppelins song “no quarter “ is epic
This is amazing
Love the horror shirt mate! 🫡
Heyyyyyy! Any Horror fan! Thanks dude!!! Creepshow is one of my all time faves!! Welcome to the channel man! 🤘🏾💀🎃
If you can master smooth doubles with both hands and your feet then you can do just about anything on the kit and others will think your awesome even if your just okay. Smooth doubles are what you should be aiming to master. Mr. Carey you may never be, but you can still be impressive.
That offbeat tempo he keeps is something otherworldly.
YES!!!
Nothing like Tool to make u feel like 11 minutes isn't enough
I love the Boston Celtics number 33 Jersey he is a true Bostonian at heart.
Fantastic reaction to an amazing song and performance. If you have not seen or reacted to Neil Peart from Rush Live at Frankfurt. Great stuff.
That drum sound that you keep talking about is a tabla sound.
the tabla sounding drum is an electronic KORG Wavedrum
Ahhhh I see. Thanks a lot! Welcome to channel 😀
I love Hayden and Morgan, Danny Carrey awsommmmmmm
Numerous Uno❣️
He don't even break a sweat till 3/4 into the song. He is a big tall guy and he is smacking them drums and symbols hard.
He was 60 years old when this was filmed
Fun facts of the octopus 1. He does all of this without a click track! He says you just have to put yourself out there and be vulnerable. 2. He uses a marching snare 3. He doesn’t use snare wires on his snare.
Thanks for the info man! Yea I recall thinking it was either very loose or just completely off. Love that sound for snares. Take it easy, dude!
I always thought Adam Jones was his click track : )
With respect, that's not a marching snare. It's a cast bronze snare that's 8 inches deep.
Thanks Jeff, I appreciate the correction. I was told by a old drummer of mine he used a marching snare. So my/his bad. 😂
If your a drum fanatic SLEEP TOKEN! Not sure of you have reacted to that band and drummer yet. First time your in the feed. Subbed
feels like jazz, baby
I love Tool… but this video opened my eyes how great there are . Masterpiece . You should react to a New single „Opiate2” is the New version of Tool 30y old song .
Great song. I’d wait on it. Simply because it’s more of a remake than a outright new song. So many others to listen to first.
He's the GOAT.
This drum that he use for left right right is a Korg Wavedrum
The drum fills on this song played live are never the same he basically improves the fills .
Let alone that he was 60 during this performance, is 6'5" and is swinging trees at those drums. LOL. Danny is legend and I'm not a huge Tool fan.
You need to check out Matt Garstka “Red Miso” by Animals as Leader.
Danny acts as if he didn't have to do the fills, he would just drift off to sleep. Lol
I concur🙂
Not sure who else is in your top 5, but if you haven’t watched Snarky Puppy for Larnell Lewis, he will shake up your top 5. Snarky’s What About Me is a great start. Or top 5 drum moments of Larnell Lewis (on drumeo). I hope you haven’t seen him. Would make a great reaction video.
That "weird" sounding drum is a Tabla. I know this because my old roomate Judd was the one that introduced him to it.
Haha!! Welcome to our world, friend!! Now, please, please, please check out Primus. True musically enlightened fans the world over will concur, it doesn't get any better than Tool AND Primus. Danny's snare drum always sounds dry. I love that sound. Moreover, no one other than John Bonham hits the drums harder than Danny. Poor drum heads.
Dave Grohl says hold my sticks.
They beat those drums like they owe them money!!
I know dick about the names of a drum kit…but it looks like he’s waving a wand as he goes down the the line hitting the cymbals(?). Greatest drummer alive right now IMO.
Respectfully disagree. Blake Richardson of BTBAM is effing stellar.
Nah...Ringo Starr is still alive. Once Ringo passes...THEN...we can talk about the greatest drummer still alive. 😎
@@20fortheJuice have you heard Sleep Tokens drummer? Get back with me on that....
@@davidwaynemain I have never heard of them. But thanks, been listening all day!
The Octopus 🐙
Everyone is tool fan. It just takes some longer to realize it. Welcome
Just because you can't keep up, doesn't make you right
Wave drum electronic
Coo
Not once did Danny look at his drums
the only concert I'd go to... Now anyways! old af. seen them in 3 different states. absolutely nothing compares to them as artist. pink Floyd was a better overall SHOW, but musically sheeeit nobody comes close
Pretty old now, but another drum workout that will make you sweat.

Just because you think in. 4/4
Good art makes you feel good but also a little uneasy and questioning like this song.
Trying to nod your head to Tool is futile, especially this song. They switch time signatures with Danny keeping the beat. It's insane he can stay on time so well, I'd be completely confused
"this guy is great" - referring to Dany Carey? lordt... forgive our sins.
Love me some DC, but Mike Portnoy has been peer reviewed as the best drummer ever for a good reason. The Great Debate is simply disgusting. Same for As I Am...
He's Good..not God, that would be Niel Peart
