Macon,Ga.,somewhere down some train tracks it was kinda swampy. There was a railyard we would park at and walk the rails to 3 different bridges to fish. The creek they crossed was called Tobesofkee creek. We caught Bass, various sunfish,a variety of catfish and crappie. The two fish that got my attention were Chain Pickeral and the Bowfin. There is some real big Bowfin in this creek. There were a couple other locations on this creek we would fish, I just can't remember where. This was back in the mid/ late '60s through the '70s. It's a creek worth investigating. Like I said,it was swampy,humid and hot during the summer but worth it. Thanks Granddaddy Echols for everything.

Far-out bud, awesome Bowfin's 👍👍🤙✌️, or mudfish, dogfish ( that's what I heard them called here, a long time ago), whatever you want to call them, their cool!!!
I love these Bowfins. I fish in Thailand and from what I understand the bow fin is very similar to the snakeheads. They evolved to live in low oxygen environments and can breath air. They have almost the same body structure and just like the giant snakeheads when they are spawning they change color and I think the bowfin even protects its fry like a snakehead will?

Those blue/green fins are from spawning. They change that color when during the spawn. I caught one like that last year and was so confused. Had no idea they changed color like that.

If you get tired of fishing spillways, take a road trip to the Saginaw River. I had a good day catching 3 Channel Catfish this weekend & my buddy caught 13. Lol. His Carolina rig was key on a rocky bottom. Your arms would get tired reeling in drum. Bowfin here are different in color. Green.

Sunfishes are awesome! They look great on an aquarium. In Portugal, we used to have pumpkin seed sunfish everywhere, but some assholes released catfishes in every spot of water. 😡

I once caught a four foot long ell in a small brackish creek. The water was only about eight inches deep and about four feet wide.😮

Last Summer, I caught 218 fish of various species. Most of them, I would say probably 75% were caught on nightcrawlers.
