2 Trains Passing Under Me While On A Bridge! Gigantic Freight Train Passes Steel Train, Big Trains!

  • 2 Trains Passing As Seen From Above! These trains are passing on the Norfolk Southern Railroad main line between Chattanooga and Cincinnati. Look how cool they look from above! A huge mixed freight train that "emptied the yard" meets a steel roll train while I was at the perfect spot. We also see a railroad crossing on a steep grade in Walton, Kentucky on the same NS line. The trains passing are at Crittenden, Kentucky. Railroad maintenance was going on just north of here where private contractors were working with NS crews to replace private driveway crossings around MP 25 on the NS Rathole Line. Every train that came through had to get permission to pass the area over the radio so it was easy to know when a train was approaching. There are also several defect detectors in the area and all communications were on `160.950. I heard both trains on the radio so I figured I could get a cool video from the bridge just south of the construction zone. That worked out pretty well so I went to Wendy's after that and a little while later heard another train asking for permission to pass going southbound. I always wanted to film at that railroad crossing in Walton, Kentucky because it is on a steep grade with curves at both ends. There is a graveyard right next to the crossing so I checked out some of the 1800s head stones while waiting for the train. The crossing is at about the MP 21 area just south of a defect detector at MP 20. I could also pick up a DD at MP 14 from this location. Also included is an up to date video of the kitten and Chessie. Filmed October 14, 2021.

Gigantic! This is the appropriate qualifier for this very long freight train pulled by three locomotives. I counted a total of 167 cars, of which 149 carry containers, which makes 298 containers. Truly an impressive convoy!

Oh, wait, you probably mean the third train. In that case, there's more! Several of the cars were carrying three containers.

It is a popular theory is that dogs eat grass to help with upset stomachs or gas. While eating grass can induce vomiting, fewer than 25% of dogs throw up after eating grass and evidence from pet owners suggests that fewer than 10% of dogs seemed to be sick in the first place before grazing.

Can't do them much harm. It rains all the time in the UK but we transport coil uncovered. Having said that, the difference is probably that coil never needs to be on a train for more than a few hours in the UK, since England is only a little larger than Ohio, Scotland is the same but is nearly all rural, Wales is small and Northern Ireland's on a different railway system.

It’s going to sit in the drop off at the customers yard and unloaded setting next to other rolls that have been unloaded waiting to go into the mill to make final product.
What you see uncovered is not what’s going to be the end of it.

There was only 30 cars of coil steel on that train which would be 4,245 tons if each car was maxed out. Each car should be around 140 tons each, the max is 141.5. On flat ground one of those engines could pull that train at 50 to 60 MPH. But the ruling grade could be the reason for that much power.
We ran on fairly flat territory In most of Louisiana. With 1, yes one, horsepower per ton we could run around 50 MPH and make it over the Huey P. Long Bridge, that has a 1.25 % grade. That means for every 100 feet forward the bridge gains 1.25 feet in elevation. It is one of the longest railroad bridges in the world at almost 5 miles. It is just a few miles up the Mississippi River from New Orleans.

    Jaw tooth take a Poll.
what is the Best looking engine paint scheme?
have seen many videos with Northfolk/southern paint jobs.
I have seen a few of their engines come thru my central illinois town. I have to say that they are ugly. they seem to be painted with the idea that they are going to get dirty and why clean them?
I like the Iowa interstate engine paint scheme. it is bright, has the colors of both uni and state schools. it is just nice to look at. As colorful as it is, it has enough black in it to hide most of the dirt.
CP has a nice timeless scheme.
I have once seen a Boston purple line train in the midwest. that was cool.
UP does a fine job with its engines.
    CSX is Ok as well.
I hate Northfolk/ southern paint scheme.
They look dingy when they could look sharp.
What is your favorite or least favorite paint job on an engine?

It would take hours to fix it and jam up the whole line. I saw something similar happen on CSX in LaGrange when they had a problem car that had to be set out

    Cool catch on the doubles.
That was a long train only to have triples pulling. I was expecting a DPU some where.
Dogs eat grass to throw up only rarely. They need fiber in their diet to help digest food. That's why they eat grass. Check your dog food for fiber content. The older the dog the more fiber they need.
Also, table scraps are the worst thing for animals. Will cause all kids of health problems.
    Take care and safe travels.

They’re probably not dealing with too steep of grades to need one for extra power and dynamic braking

  • @paulbergen9114

Even without top speed still a great meet. The unit coil train looks even better from the top. Easy to see the need for 3 units with that weight. The other train with the unique if its all beaded that way put it together mix of auto tacks covered hoppers and containers. Empty that yard!

@@billmorris2613 good perspective. I remember Conrail had some "hot" steel trains from a mill to a galvanizing line then to an auto plant. Of course the opposite was the MILW RD which over 3 winters struggled to get coil's off the EJ&E 80 miles to AO Smith where they made auto frames. Many days just in time delivery was a matter of minutes. One of my favorites photos is circa 1975 shot by a friend hoboing on the SP as 2 U33C climb the Huey Long bridge shot out a boxcars door in a hazy sunset. That bridge is some real US iron and almost every angle looks fantastic

    • @billmorris2613
      @billmorris2613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Paul Bergen It’s a very interesting bridge. But a lot safer for the cars since it was rebuilt with three lanes plus a shoulder in each direction with their own superstructure. The new superstructure is 3 to 4 times wider than it was. The railroad part was not changed very much. Before the improvements the auto portion was just hung on the sides of the railroad bridge. With just two narrow lanes and no shoulders in each direction. When I would be waiting for a route off the bridge, up near the crest just outside of the superstructure, every time an 18 wheeler would go by us it felt like we were in an earthquake.
