Railroad Crossing Blocked 1 Hour As 2 Trains Passing! Train Stopped With My Truck On Other Side RR!

  • 2 trains passing in Kentucky! The railroad crossing was blocked for almost one hour. This is the Norfolk Southern Railroad main line from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Cincinnati, Ohio know as the NS Rathole Line. It use to have a lot of tunnels and that is why it is called the Rathole. Most of the tunnels were daylighted in the 50s. First we see a huge mixed freight train come across the crossing and stop. It was still causing the gates to stay down. The train stopped to wait for another train going in the other direction. Most of the vehicles that pulled up to the crossing turned around and went a different direction but a few went around the gates. I didn't film the gate runners. I have enough of them on video. The train sat there for close to an hour before the second train finally passed it. The second train was pretty cool with all the old boxcars and a couple flat cars of new Case 250 tractors. We also see how big the kitty is getting. She has more than doubled in size. This video was filmed with my new backup camera on October 4, 2021 between Crittenden and Walton, Kentucky. Thanks for watching!
    Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel. The views and the ads help keep me on the road.

    The reason the gates stayed down so long was that the very last bare table had not yet crossed the shunt. The system still detected a train there. The train was 100' too long.

    Rule #1 when filming trains: *ALWAYS* stay on the side of the track where your vehicle is located. You're welcome LOLOLOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (PS - If the coast was clear at 11:18, why didn't you just jog over to your truck? -- Maybe I'm being naive in asking that question...)

    Hello again, UK in the house! You say that the train blocking the road for nearly an hour was "interesting"! I can think of some other words that the car drivers were using to describe their frustration. I understand how frustrating when a train blocks the road, but it is a real insult when the train has actually cleared the crossing and the barriers stay down. It is almost taunting the motorist to take their chances!!! Oh, good video BTW and now I have at last seen the Chattanooga Choo Choo, but suspect that it isn't the same one as in the 1940's song :)

    Neat video of these two trains between Crittenden and Walton, Kentucky. That was a lot of time to tie up that crossing. I presume that the people who returned the way they came had a long detour to go where they wanted to go. I doubt that there are a lot of railroad crossing in the area. Did you notice the white hose on the double stack car that came past at 5:54? That white hose was used to by-pass a broken air line on that car. The white hose was connected to the car behind the car that the hose was hanging on and the car in front of the car with the hose in order to keep the train air available to the whole train. Also at 12:28 there was a green Chicago & North Western Railroad boxocar with CNW reporting marks appearing in the consist of the second train. Thank you for documenting these trains for us!

    There probably is a temporary speed restriction in place due to track work. The first train should have had a dpu cut in the middle for traction and to relieve the stress on the drawbars.

    • @beeble2003

    Precision railroading would be great but unfortunately the infrastructure is not built to accommodate such long trains. Crossings get constantly blocked because there’s not enough distance between the crossing and signals. Communities should start suing the railroads and then maybe the investors will start listening. That’s also dangerous for the public.

    In South Bethlehem, Penn., when there was still a steel mill and not a Sands Casino, if a train blocked a crossing for more than 5 min. the cops would give the engineer a ticket and they meant it. I watched the cops walk up and hand the engineer a ticket when his train blocked the S. New St. crossing for 10 min. That solved that problem with the RR crossings. The street level tracks along with the steel mill are long gone and it's now a bike path, so sad.

    Hehe, the train stopped right in front of the release contact of the level crossing. Stupid run for those who had to wait at the barrier. The second train also had German containers from Hamburg Süd with it. cool. Chessie pretends that the little tiger is her own baby, thats too sweet. But that's good that Tiger has a bodyguard. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven

    Blocking road like that is how they get laws passed on how long they can block them. Covington had passed laws like that and they would ticket the train if they do block them.

    How can a train block a road for an hour? Isn't that a safety violation, what would happen if safety vehicles needed to cross and that was the only way and it caused someone in an accident or fire to die.

    I'll tell you what JT, I used to be with a crew of train buffs who do cked here at a Bucks County Pennsylvania station,which is a CSX mainline to photograph and video freight trains.
    Our line was good due to when the Baaken oilfields opened up in North Dakota soon we had BNSF pumpkin engines coming thru once a day with oil tankers.
    Once a week we'd get CPRail Dash 9's and ES4400's coming through.
    So it was worthwhile.
    The comaraderie, great jokes,fooling around kinda like a deer camp was great.
    But I grew sick n tired of seeing CSX's rusted out,greasy,ugly beer can engines coming by.
    I dont like their blue paint scheme anyway but does CSX ever wash their engines?
    Even now,their Tier 4 engines already look like they went down an embankment,into a creek with mud and pulled out.
    I won't take a picture or video of one more CSX loco.
    I sure wish they'd go back to their old "Chessie System" paint scheme with the kitten yellow,orange,and deep blue.
    Now THAT was a great paint scheme.
    Anyone else?????

    At 5.56 there's a white hose along the side of the car. Appears to be attached to the air line. I wonder if the brakes are cut out on that car.

      Yes, it’s cut out. That is a run around hose it’s used to bypass a car that has a broken/damaged train line.

    • @alexaseltine1052
      @alexaseltine1052 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes and no an ambulance has the on board equipment needed to help sustain a patient if they have to do anything internal most fire fighters and ems are double certified and some get a little more as an RN so that is a huge plus and if need be they can also call for an emergency helicopter to help

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The emergency services know where the bridges are and they know where to find another crossing if one is blocked. They also stick to the major roads -- the only reason an ambulance would cross here is if it was going to or from somewhere on this specific road or very close to it. Of course, any time the emergency services have to take a longer route, that's a problem, but they wouldn't be sat at that crossing for an hour while a patient died and/or a house burnt down.

    • @tamsyct
      @tamsyct 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In reality I do not know this location but I'm sure Anther township/ department would have done the job till the struck department was able to get to the emergency. As far as the ambulance, a police officer could have came and safely got them across if it was that dire and no other options.

    I remember the first video when that kitten suddenly showed up. It seems you have adopted here! Great! :) I have 10 cats that live here with me. Two families, Miss Patches and her three kids Mr Blacky, Miss Booties and Mr Tiger and the other family, Mr Tabby the Feral House Cat, hiss sister Miss Midnight the Feral Queen of the Office and her kids, Miss Spots (joined us in August 2020) and her kittens Miss Pepper and Mr Vader. Miss Midnight and her kittens joined us in April 2020. Her kittens needed me to help them, so later, I caught mum and all she wanted was her kittens. She is feral and her little brother Mr Tabby is also feral. I'm the only one they are NOT afraid of. This morning, after I got into the office, Miss Midnight was sitting here next to me. A few months ago, Mr Big, a furry grey cat. He was a stray that suddenly started eating food in my yard. NOT feral. Once I realized he wasn't feral, I just HAD to bring him in. I knew he wouldn't put up a fight and he didn't. Every time I come near him, he comes up and rubs hiss head up against me and purrs. No one seems to be missing him. Nobody around here seems to know who he belongs to, so I think he was brought into the area and told "GET OUT!" and left here. He just happened upon the feral colony in my yard. I tried to find out where he came from. He has a clipped ear and he has definitely been neutered I cannot explain why hiss ear is clipped, that's normally done in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release), but, like I already said...he's NOT feral. They don't TNR "adoptable" cats. He would have definitely been deemed adoptable, even if he was a bit skittish (he was a bit with me at first, but that isn't unusual). He definitely belonged to someone before. I just wish I knew WHY he wasn't wanted anymore. If you don't want (or for some reason can't keep) your cat, PLEASE don't just abandon it someplace. Around here, we have rescues and animal shelters where you can surrender them. Well...at least Mr Big is not only safe and sound here, he's quite happy. Every time he sees me he starts meowing and wanting some attention.
