Hey there fellas! Welcome back to my channel. In today's video, I'll be tackling the issue of a broken housing on the Makita DTD 170. I'll walk you through the entire repair process, step by step, so that you can easily fix it yourself. Let's get started! First, I'll test the functionality of the tool to make sure everything else is working fine.
Looks like it's all good, so now I'll focus on replacing the housing. I have the genuine housing ready, which ensures a perfect fit. To begin the assembly process, I need to remove the hook and the rubber front piece. Unfortunately, I can't get a good grip with my fingers, so I'll use two screwdrivers for this task. It may take a bit of effort, but eventually, they'll come off. Once all the parts are removed, it's time to clean the housing.
Sometimes, it can be a bit tight, but with patience and perseverance, we'll get through it. I'll ensure all parts are in their correct positions before moving forward. Perfect alignment is key. Now, let's talk about a previous issue I encountered with this tool. It was intermittently working and eventually stopped altogether. After some investigation, I discovered a broken wire. I'm planning to open it up and solder the wire back together.
If things don't go as planned, I do have a replacement switch on hand. After some careful cutting and lifting of the plastic housing, I found the damaged wire and the culprit behind the issue. The switch seems to be melted and difficult to disassemble, but it's a weak point that needs fixing. Although the wire is short for soldering, I'll give it a try.
