    Video 3: Live Sets
    In this video I go over how to work with Live Sets on the Yamaha CK Series; I explain what live sets ARE for those new to stage instruments, then I go over the built-in live sets from Yamaha, and how to create, navigate and rename live sets, as well as what gets saved, what doesn't and how to back them up.

    Really informative. Thanks so much. I'll check out your split video, as I'm anxious to see how these can be saved and used in a set. I had the P-125 and it was a great piano and piano bed. I've read this is the same bed, but not sure about the piano quality in comparison to the 125. Can you elaborate on the sound engine a bit more? Appreciate you taking time to help others. I subscribed. Jim

      Thanks so much! I also had the P-125 and loved it. Same GHS keybed, and the piano quality on the CK88 is much higher (CFX Grand vs. CF Grand), and far more effects to make use of. I've bought and sold a lot of keyboards and pianos since I started my channel, but my CK88 and my DGX-670 aren't going anywhere :)

    Hello nice tutorial format with the notes for extra tips input. Well done. I have question it might be a little complicated. I know you can use vsts on this keyboard using a daw by using midi channel input. My question is, would you happen to know if there a way to seamlessly switch sounds i created on the daw/vst and combine the effects on the keyboard and save them for each live set. (I have heard you can use a vst and use the onboard effects of the ck61 for the external vst) for example have a midi channel saved in a live set so that if you change to a different live set the midi channel with the loaded vsts will load up and can use the vsts right away. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again!

    Thank you for the informative video. I still don’t know if I am going to end on keys or stay on bass. I have a MODX8 but I think the CK would be a lot easier to set up.

      I was a bass player in bar bands when I was young, I love bass - but the keys have definitely taken over for me :) The CK is a breath of fresh air to use it's sooooo easy to get used to.

    So I am starting up with a new band in a few weeks. Have had my CK88 couple months now. Essentially i need to create some splits for songs like “September(horns-piano) and Superstition(Clav-Horns) however, on Superstition from years of playing in Eb his band is playing it in E. Should i create a transpose within the live set ir simply hut the transpose on the keyboard. I need to play in Eb and raise the keyboard 1/2 step. I also want to layer 2 Clavs and split board with horns. Thanks for great tutorials.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      If it was me I would transpose as needed and save that in the live set so it’s ready to go when selected.
      And you can easily layer 2 clavs and split with horns just choose one of the split options that has 2 channels on one side (A+B,C Or A,B+C) set the split point and assign the voices you want.
      Hope that helps! Congrats on the new band and happy gigging!

      @@PianoTone Thank you for the response. Looking forward to getting back into gigging after almost 10yrs off. Fortunately this band just does 1-2 gigs per month, which is about all I want, and most of their gigs are good hrs as well. Thank you again. Will research some more of your vids to keep learning!

    Thank you for a great video. I am a beginner with the CK family, have both the CK61 and the CK88 in my rig. What I was experimenting with is if I can have, for example, Live set 12-1 on my CK61 send midi message to my CK88 and trigger a live set there. So far I am only getting all the live sets and I don´t want that. Do you have a video on midi settings in the CK ?

    Great video - Thanks so much for making it! Brand new to the CK61 and trying to learn quickly how to best create, save, edit and recall sounds. This was really helpful.
    As you noted, at the beginning, the weird thing for me coming from other keys is that you don't just have a library of sounds you can then save to "favorites" or whatever... So I accidentally made edits to a sound (aka, "voice"?) and then saved it, without realizing I then saved it over one of their pre-made voices, which I also still want.
    Is there some way to keep the new sound I made, but also get backk the original one I saved over? (does this make any sense??) :) Thanks!

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks so much! And yes you can - select the live set you edited. Connect a flash drive to the back. MENU->FILE->LIVE SET SOUND FILE->SAVE (give it a name). This backs up just the one live set to your flash drive. (If you've also saved other new live sets to open slots, then you should back those up as well (maybe just back up the entire keyboard "all live sets"). Then you can factory reset your keyboard: remove the flash drive, turn the keyboard off, then hold down the rightmost white key while you turn it on; this should return the keyboard to factory settings.
      Then, reconnect your flash drive, choose an open live set slot and MENU->FILE->LIVE SET SOUND FILE->LOAD and load your custom live set to the open slot you've selected.
      Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

    Great Tutorials. In your example you made edits to live set 1.1 first, then saved it to set 11.2. The risk, as you noted, is that if you hit save twice it would overwrite the current 1.1. Would it be better when copying a live set to just save it in the new slot first, then make the changes in the new slot?

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yup! I've started doing that since then - wish I'd thought of it as fast as you did lol! And I've also started backing them up regularly to a flash drive.

    Hello, thank you for this great video, does this keyboard have seamless transition? When I switch from 1 sound to another does the sound cut off or does weird sound before you start hearing the new live set ?

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was about to say “yes it does” then I noticed something so now I’m going to say “yes - sort of”. The voice does have seamless transition when you switch live sets, BUT the effects being applied in live set 1 will get immediately replaced by the effects on live set 2. I noticed this when playing a piano chord on live set 1-1, then switching to live set 1-2 which is a Rhodes that has a strong pan effect and you still hear the piano but now with the panning effect.

    Great vid thanks , does the keyboard need batteries to save the live presents to the internal memory , can I turn the keyboard off if I haven’t backed up to a USB drive ?

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No you don’t need batteries or usb to save live sets; they get recorded to onboard memory (good idea to back them up to usb though)
