- When top Kenyan rugby player Tony Onyango collapsed and died, his teenage sweetheart and mother of his son, Maria Muinde ,had no idea she was going to be the first suspect.
Today, she opens up to Lynn Ngugi on the pain of being called a murderer by his family and the joy their son who is also battling autism has brought to her life.

My son went thro the same since birth. He has mild autism and is now 28 years. Don't worry my dear, he will have delayed milestones but he will catch up. They just need to be shown lots of love.

I like it when women stand up for themselves,"It's either they do it peacefully or I do it my way" It doesn't have to be physical but if diplomacy doesn't work try violence....Maria saying you are strong is an understatement!

This is a useless African stereotype that everytime the husband passes on the wife killed him yet wives also die all the times and nobody accuses men. Sometimes it's even these men's sidechicks that kill their wives. Men are still treated better than woman but we are all human beings. African culture is one-sided sometimes. This needs to end. I applaud the strength of this woman for keeping going. May God continue to protect and bless her.

Maria you are built for greatness...My mum was widowed @30-yrs she was left with 3 Children the last was only 7 months and the oldest 11yrs...weehh inlaws were from hell's kitchen led by mother in-law they accused my mum of killing my dad yet he had an accident @4am and died afew hrs later @forces memorial.They caused drama throughout the matanga and after burial .The mother in-law even denied knowing my mum yet she was legally married in church she called her a whore 😭😭 and said she wasn't interested in us the children.All she wanted was property but thank God my dad was wise he had listed my mum as next of kin in everything he owned so they didn't get anything.Yrs later my mum left for US and she got us through sch together with my cousins.God is true to His word He is husband to the widows and a father to the fatherless .We have never lacked in any way

I met Tony and Maria severally when we were in campus and she is right, Tony worshiped the ground she walked on. He only had eyes for Maria. They loved each other fiercely and deeply, a love very few people get to experience. May his soul rest in peace and may she have the strength to raise their son.

Hapo pa kuongea na God one on one I do it too, I put 2 chairs facing each other and I invite God to sit on one, I sit on the other and by faith I believe God is sitting on the other. I pour my heart out @ times with painful tears, and God always answers. Not audibly but with a solution in my mind. This far He has never failed me. Glory be to His Holy Name 🙏🏽

Everytime I watch Maria's story my heart breaks. To think someone would accuse her of killing Tony makes me sad yaani. I had a chance to know Maria & Tony during their dating days as I was a rugby enthusiast & their love was incredible.. Maria has always been a tough one & I she always fight for what she loves ( this comes from the way back, she'd fight for her team back them, Strathmore Leo's aka 27. We'd have those online banter & she always stood up for her team) so for me to see how strong she is now, it takes me back in time.
If one thing I am proud of about you Maria it is the fact that you fought for Tony to the last minute. May God bless you for that & I am sure Shane will always be proud of everything you did for Tony.

A No nonsense lady, I really love a spirit, she is like my mother when we lost our dad, being raised in a polygamous family, we were only girls in our family without a boy, but when my dad past away, we never inherited anything from him, we were stigmatized and al we passed through will never erase from my heart. my mother was so strong after she was told that she killed his husband she never gave up. Family members of fathers in Africa are one problem. If your dad is still alive and they're asked to pay for hospital care etc, no one will want to. Only daughters who have suffered to look after their dad are not to inherit their father's property(s)? Not fair.

@1:09:44 I just had to pause, internalise Maria's state of mind, her pain, realities and just broke down in tears. Maria you're the strongest version of strength I have seen. You've spoken your truth hope it sets you free. I believe you. But remember this, unforgiveness limits God and hinders Him from avenging. Release all those who hurt, broke, interfered with your marriage and offended you, then sit back and relax...God will surely show up and show off.

But hiyo kuto share those things that he felt were best kept from his wife are what would have helped her to know what she was dealing with. People must learn to open up and share what pain they are going through so that their partner's love and concern for the relationship can be taken to God in prayer. Otherwise without knowing what lies in the bush, and then it appears to you unawares, really, really, was a big blow! My friend's husband shared with her everything and made sure that incase he won't be there, she could continue with life with unexpected hitches provided for - by him of course. So when he didnt make it from hospital, years later she acknowledges that he had loved her enough to prepared ahead for a smooth transition. We are all learning and we all need to address and face our fears.
It is her faith that is blowing my mind. And what a cute boy Shane is. May God bless him even more. He is special and loved.

Hello lynn. Muinde's story is soo touching. I also have a child living with disabilities. I am a single parent. I can tell you it is not easy.
I lost my husband in 2019 I was accused of killing him. I went through the same hell but I am still standing. Those mistreating widows they should learn that our Father is in heaven. They are being haunt as we speak. GOD has been there for me.

Maria, you are a strong one. I was widowed at 23. I know and understand the pain you went through. My husband died when we were taking him to hospital he also breathed heavily but died on the way to hospital. At the time we were staying at his mum's. We were there for a few days. I thank God he was brought by his friends in that sick state and his sister was around but my friend who did criminalogy, told me God loved me because they'd say I probably did something to him if when he was brought home and found me alone. Their family told me the only thing I'd take from our beautiful home(mansion) was just a bed. I cried in so much pain😭😭😭. They said alot of painful things and accusations....
I asked God many questions why would he let my best friend, a man who loved me unconditionally, a selfless man, a happy man, a kind and generous one, a man who fought for me, a man who always told me that we'd grow old together leave???! I left and cut all communication with them. But There's a God in Heaven who avenges His people! I healed but I don't think I'll ever forgive them
