- The wife was good to me this holiday season. Got the Yeti XL RTR. What an amazing looking truck. My wife purchased over the Thanksgiving week on an amazing deal. I waited all this time to crack it open.

That’s too bad that they have discontinued the yeti XL I have three of these and I just absolutely love them to death I kept one of them pretty much stock the second one I have is a kit with all the high-priced components and the third one is totally redone with Hot racing aluminum parts and it is outstanding my next purchase is a Losi super rock Ray to go along with my collection hopefully Axial will bring back the yeti XL!

Great comparison brother. I was one of the Lucky ones to score one of these truck on black Friday. $250 free shipping zero tax!! This is discontinued but still tons of upgrade parts supports. Mine fully upgraded at this point. Love this truck man..

That $250 price was hella of a deal as it was sold out when I tried to purchase from the website during the Black Friday 2018.

guerra69sj I went back to see if I could get a second one a hour after I bought mine and they were gone.
First upgrade is the rear sway bar. Then go through and relocktight everything. I forgot to do the front drive shaft at the transmission and had to replace it with a shaft pin from a X-Maxx.

@Chris Watson Deal of the year. I've had this for a bit. But you know, still have not ran it. I want to address the ring and pinion first but at some point I may just run it any way. I don't plan on bashing this hard either way. You know when we were talking about the SRR I though about these wheels. Not sure they would hold up to the abuse of the SRR. That thing is an animal and the compound of the tires maybe a little soft for this heavy beast.
@@ReadySetRC Ah I see! Thanks for the tips! I just took off the stock wheels and they were scuffed up from normal use (that red fake beadlock) so I taped and painted it flat black. Gonna really clean up the look. I can't believe you haven't run that axial yet bro! It's been 3 years brotha lol. Now I'm curious why haven't you run it? I'm guessing cause it's discontinued and are you worried about part support maybe?
@@cwatson42785 I know Chris this is shameful😆 Nah not even parts support. It was those Barharbour Basher videos. He was the first to point out the ring and pinion issue and the fix. I don't even know if he is on TH-cam anymore. Did a search and it's like he is completely wiped 🤔

Great video! I just got my first Losi Rock Rey and i absolutely love it. The terrain out here in Arizona is great for it. I'm new to the hobby and i really like Losi trucks in particular. My next truck will probably be a Super Rock Rey.

I'd like to know how durable the losi is. I had a yeti xl and it broke every run. Never ran on 6s either. Ring gears bearings trans gears. And so much plastic.

Yeah, seems like everytime I go beyond 1:10 scale, costs go way up with negligible on the trail performance increase.
The losi got more metal parts but it cost more too so all in all it’s up to you to choose witch one you want and you gonna spend about the same $$$$

Great comparison video Neal! Great deal for the Yeti Xl! Man that super Rock rey looks official. I built the Yeti xl kit and I love it but not sure if they addressed some of the issues with the diffs. I would suggest the DHAWK Racing front diff housing with bearing spacer and the upgraded spiral cut diff gears. Made a huge difference with the truck. Love the RC4WD beadlocks. Would love to get those for mine. Nice work!
@EVERYDAY RC Thanks Chris! You have no idea how many times I watched your bash video of the Yeti XL. I was so close to buying the kit over the years but just had such a bad experience with the Exo Terra buggy kit, just never wanted to assemble another Axial kit after that.
Ready Set RC pinion mod is needed 👍 stock plastics are A1 if the pinion is shaved. Limiting straps, aluminum bell crank , driveshaft boot and a good servo you’ll be mint also if you mod the inside of the plastic driveshaft with a 2”1/2 x 5/16 socket screws it will last forever one of my helpful threads 👉 www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-yeti-xl/557685-must-watch-video-hd-gear-mod.html

The only mod you need to fix the rear diff problem is to add a 3rd bearing to the gear assembly that turns the diff gear. The car comes with a black spacer between the two bearings but if you replace that with another bearing it corrects the problem. I also have a zip tie around the outside of the diff housing to help prevent flexing out the area where the bearing is housed. It’s a shame that this truck is discontinued. It has its problems, like the diff issue- but all these other cars are just rip offs of the yetiXL.
Michael Chan no true bud I’ve invested plenty of trial and error The 3rd bearing is a great mod for reinforcement but in no way does it help reseed the pinion to eliminate the tight pinion mesh... you must be referring to straight cut gears not the HD gears
Great comparison buddy. I want one!!!! God I am so jealous you got it for that price!!! I tried on black Friday but by mid day were sold out! I was so disappointed.
@Chris Watson Tell me about it brother. I think I nagged my wife for 24 hours before she pulled the trigger. I thought it would have been sold out if she waited too long.
Same situation man, my wife got this for me as a X-mas gift as well (same deal), I love the look of it. Still need to swap out the battery connectors on mine, so I can give it a rip (now I wanna go find a big gnarly hill, lol). Gotta say I was surprised by the size of this thing, considering I've only seen pictures or videos of it, think I'm gonna like it.
@drog343 Same here brother the size was deceiving. This is a large truck. I agree I thin this look way better in person. Was never a fan of the pics I've seen. From the videos I've seen this truck has a ton of torque twist. You may want to address that before your first bash.
@@ReadySetRC Thanks, yeah definitely, to be honest the torque twist and its unique driving mechanics are kinda the appeal for me, but at the price we got it for, I went ahead and started gathering up stuff I needed or wanted. I picked up the HR rear torsion bar (will start out with the softer one to see how it handles, to see if I'll need the stiffer rated one instead). Eventually, I'll probably run my beadlocks as well (I've got a set of the Huntsmans), tried them on my Summit a while back, but because of the hexes I'm running there, I couldn't get the serrated lock nut that is supposed to go with the hex to work (it has a pretty big flange and wouldn't fit in the recess of the mounting plate), tried using the stock (Traxxas) lock nut, and it kept getting spun off under the vehicles own power (the threading may have been slightly off between the 2 pieces). Anyway, ended up mounting my PBs to Raceline wheels, though for this vehicle, I have the HR 17mm hex set (rtr version), which I've already test fitted with the beadlock mounting plate (so I just have to eventually unmount my Rockbeasts, or maybe just pick up a second set), to gain an overall extra inch of track width (though tbh, I'll most likely get some beefier axles than these before I run them with the beadlocks). I've put together metal adjustable links for the steering and camber from my spares, as well as already had a replacement steering servo, and locking servo arm. I want to add micro servos to the driver's heads and put in a steering wheel, and light bars. Now, I want to get an action cam to mount in there, lol.

Love my yeti xl. The #1 upgrade to do first is the front diff housing. The housing is made of such thin plastic it lets the diff cup move in the housing which chews the ring and pinion. I put the hot racing housing in mine and have bashed it hard since then. T-bone bumpers are awesome too. Check BarHarbourBasher channel for great XL mods to help strength. After enough time and $$$ the XL is reliable. Mine has all the hot racing goods. Front diff housing, front bulkhead, steering assembly, 2 speed tranny kit, remote reservoir shock kit, RC4WD rear diff housing,RC4WD front knuckles, RC4WD 40 series mudslingers on stock wheels with Barharbour mod for RC4WD wheel hexes. Full T-bone skids and bumper, RPM a-arms and a 500 oz Hi-Tec steering servo with BEC. Now this thing is a beast and can crash with best of em. Also it looks so scale. Of course if the Super Rock Rey was available I would probably have bought one of those instead of building a yeti to this point.

@josh lausch The Losi Super Rock Rey is a huge truck. If I had an X-Maxx you would get a better idea of the size. I may put something up on IG that shows the SRR with a UDR. Makes the UDR look like a 1/10 scale.

As long as you know what you are getting into, the short comings and the fact it is discontinued and parts availability. For me it was always one of those kits I always wanted.

I had a Yeti Xl. Sold it after a month. I just wasn’t impressed. Instead I built a bullet-proof Savage Flux hp Xl and it’s the only thing to have. Also, the Yeti has been discontinued, so what’s that tell you?

Axial's are way over priced the yeti xl should be 350$ normally and the 10th scale should be like 250$, and 400$ for a plastic scx10ii lmao they use way too much plastic even more than traxxas.
@@wojtek-33 lol yeah I should learn about business.... I'm self employed and don't care what you think. When did I mention Traxxas??? The trx4 is around the same price and way better built I've had a CRC scx10ii and a trx4, oh and I got my scx10ii for free and sold it, when you get metal shocks and pivot balls on the trx4 while the scx10ii has cheapo plastic one's. Look at the trx4 or redcat or even my cheap barrage they all have way more metal parts than the scx10ii, so explain how redcat is selling the gen8 for 300$???? Portals, beadlocks, nice tires, two speed, metal links and way more. Axial is super overpriced especially when horizon hobby owns them and a ton of other companies like Arrma while all the other companies sell for way cheaper than axial. Axial just has a crazed fan base.
