For context: 500k cars can pass through the 401 each day across 18 lanes of traffic. Removing 145k of cars from the road each day amounts to emptying over 5 lanes of traffic on the 401. This is surely the sort of benefit that even those who view building transit infrastructure as a "war on cars" can get behind.
@ the GO midtown line has been planned for decades. It would run from Mississauga to Scarborough via the midtown GO corridor/ Milton line and interchange with Line1 at DuPont and Summerhill.
This would be a game changer for non-downtown-centric trips. The rails exist, some old stations as well.. activating it asap would take so much pressure off the Gardiner and 401 immediately!
@amarlad9 unfortunately this line is owned by CP and is a critical piece of their infrastructure. They will not be giving this line up. So they wouldn't be using existing track. I understand that most of the corridor is wide enough to add more tracks, so at least there's that, but they'd still be looking at entirely new rail bed, tracks, bridges, and tunnels across the entire width of the city. I agree it should still be done but it's going to be a lot more expensive and take a lot longer than most people would imagine.
I was hoping this would give details on recent progress made or milestones coming soon. Instead it just feels like an ad regurgitating the same general info anyone following the project has already heard.
And where would you want it to run? There's not much left for tracks in the Ottawa area. Might want to look at what tracks are left before asking for something that is physically impossible without billions of dollars just to get it started. The same money would be better served to extend the existing line to Lindsay along the right or way with an exchange point with VIA's upcoming HFR. You would be better served by having Ottawa add LRT routes.

My local station has had trains fly through it for years. For some reason whatever made up problems are causing the Crosstown to be delayed also impact GO and UP stations apparently. The corruption and Incompetence at Metrolinx is so bad that Mount Dennis GO/UP station is utterly useless.
For people who are asking for a completion date: there is no completion date. Transport growth is an ongoing thing. Even the top public transport cities in the world are still expanding.
While this is a nice marketing video, it doesn’t change the fact that you never finish your projects on time and no transparency either. Lakeshore East express train was cancelled in 2022 with the promise of bringing it back in two years. Now we are almost in 2025, and no clue when it will actually back.
Omg all the whining about no definite date. Transit improvements are ever evolving and never end. It will never be completely finished. The GO network has been evolving/improving since 1967.
That's a whole lot of sayin' nothing. I love how the only date they provide is 2055...typical Metrolinx fluff: flashy ads with little substance and any commitment is so far our that we'll all forget about it the next time the date slides.
It not a project they can complete over night. Its basically just electrifying the network and expanding service, not much else to get. The amount of money and time it costs means we have to spread the work out over multiple decades
They literally showed what has been done, and what will we done. Transit expansion has been a pain, but this project has actually gone through and at a decent pace.
Respectfully, this was a 4 minute video that said a lot of words but didn't have a lot of substance. GO has made significant gains over its life and the fact its moving 60 million riders a year is great. At 3:16 it starts with: How is Go expansion coming along? insert generic infrastructure comments. You have reached a pretty niche community here willing to watch this video about the transit expansion. Give us a little bit to work on. Station X should be complete in 2025 or we expect construction to start on station X in 2025. What are you doing towards Bowmanville or Niagara expansion. The rail tunnels under the 409(?) have been done for a while now and arent being used. Talk about moving the rail lines to that and that general timeframe. You mention electrification on the service, okay where? There could be so much more meat to this video to beyond the general platitudes. This is a good commercial for the general public who isn't train interested. But its a niche community to get promoted this video and watch it to completetion but to me it was so high level politically safe that it could have been 30 seconds and said the same thing. We have been promised Go expansion since Kathleen Wynne in one form or the other. Where has that $12 bullion been spent? Maybe there is more to come video wise but kind of disappointing.
This video is a massive waste of time to make. How about giving us actual info we can use like when construction is starting on specific projects. The lack of useful information out there on all metrolinx projects is a big reason I have zero confidence in their abilities to delivery on their vague and empty promises.
They literally post it on their website, along with tweeting images of the work being done. Many of the preliminary work like bridges, and tunnels have already completed ahead of time.
@ Those are the projects that are going well and they want you to know about. I haven’t seen an update on when the construction is starting on Caledonia station. Had to dig through the provincial finance report to find out that it was awarded in October, but I can’t find any other information on it.
@TheAChal147 They straight up said the contract will be finalised by the end of 2024, in June. It was on the news, Twitter, and their own website. If there's a delay, they're not hiding it for GO. I even got physical pamphlets delivered by mail to notify about the delays on Port Credit GO due to Hurontario construction.
@@moho472 are you referring to the update from January that said the contract should be finalized by year end? The only things I can find on their website are statements about the environmental study that was completed in 2016. I would expect a little more transparency than that on a project that commenced public engagement in 2015 and was supposed to be finished in 2022. I realize it is connected to the largest project failure in Metrolinx history in the Eglinton LRT, so I’m certain they are not wanting to draw much attention to the lack of progress on this one. I agree that they are great at updating on a lot of other things, but this video was a lot of fluff and none of what a lot of people want to see in terms of updates.
I don't understand why Metrolinx is so secretive about its timelines. The Stouffville line should have been fully double tracked by now but we have no way of knowing when this will be completed and there is no timeline on the grade separations.

Yes, and it needs to be rerouted so it stops at Square One.
