    im with you. I have both but I have about 3,000 Lengendary cards and just the base set Champions. Guess you can pick which I like better. I will collect some more CHampions but for me, nothing comes close to Legendary. The heroes, the villians, the schemes, masterminds, its all so amazing.

      You’re preaching to the choir! Marvel legendary is my top game. I like champions, but the amount of effort to put in, before even actually playing it, detracts just a little.
      It’s also crazy difficult. Every time I play, I feel like a normal hero and not a superhero because of how bad the baddies kick my butt. Even some of the low level goons seem to be a challenge for most heroes. Lol

    Very helpful. Marvel Legendary is one of my favorite games and I own the majority of expansions. I've often wondered if Champions is worth getting into or if I should just keep collecting Legendary. I will definitely stay with Legendary. Eventhough the setup takes a bit, it is mindless and takes little effort.

      I love Legendary. Champions is up there for me too, but it won’t replace legendary. If you’re really into theory crafting and building decks, it’s amazing, you just have to devote more time to it.

      Don’t get champions. Each mastermind has a fixed amount of damage that needs to be done. Your goal is to build a deck of that deals that amount of damage as fast as possible. Then start the game and hope you draw the right hand by mulliganing.
      Legendary: you choose heroes but the strategy is going to change as the mastermind ko your main card. The play develop at random.
      Champion: you planned your damage ahead and hope you draw them fast. It is fixed strategy.

    Good review of both games. I have played mainly sports simulation board games, but was looking at both of these games. Marvel Champions always looked intimidating to me, but may not when played. Legendary looked like fun and may be more casual for me. Either way, great video.

      Thanks!
      Marvel Champions does have a higher level of complexity than Legendary. I really like them both, but I think Champions benefits from spending more time tinkering with your hero deck.

      I’ll see if I can make some champions content in the future. Right now I’m neck deep in Marvel United Xmen!

    Good video. Fair points. I only have the base Legendary and I didn't like it. Dark City must be great. I just played Champions yesterday for the first time and I loved it. Fast set up time and very streamlined with lots of decisions. Like playing Magic.

      Honestly, it depends what you’re looking for. Legendary and champions are such different games. If you like MtG you are really going to dig Champions. The choices are crunchier and the decision tree is more complex. Champions is about creating that “perfect” hero deck and then using what you’ve built to overcome the villain deck, kinda like MtG or Hearthstone. Overall it is a meatier game and it is brutal. Lol.
      If you don’t like the gameplay loop of a deck builder like Legendary, I don’t know if Dark City, or any of the expansions really, are going to make you like that gameplay loop anymore. Dark city adds more complexity to the masterminds and schemes, adds some real diversity to the heroes, new keywords, and groups, but the core gameplay loop is still the same. Choose heroes to recruit, beat up bad guys by typically dumping your hand in the correct order, rinse and repeat. The real fun of Legendary is building that engine and finding the overpowered combos. Making a deck that just draws card after card until you’ve played your entire deck or making a super streamlined deck that only has a few cards that fire off every turn or other little engines based off what’s available to you at any given time.

    Legendary is still doing large expansions, they’ve just been putting them in boxes the same size as the smaller expansions. Messiah Complex is the most recent one with eight new heroes, and 3 masterminds

      @lloydkochinka4257 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh really? I stopped buying them. I have too many already! Lol
      That’s larger than the usual 5 heroes 1 mastermind setup, but not quite the size of Dark City or Secret Wars. Are they still putting out expansions that size?

      No, just the regular 100 and the “Deluxes”with 200, but same packaging size as the small 100 card expansions.

    I just bought Marvel Champions for a Christmas present, thinking it was Marvel Legendary. 😅 I played and loved Legendary back when it first came out, and I did not pay close enough attention when I picked up Champions at my local game shop.

    in ML you're not a specific hero but rather someone behind the scenes at or above SHIELD telling others what to do. Recruit is realistically Influence. this potentially causes thematic problems though. i'm still thinking it through

    • @lightwire123
      @lightwire123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      at this point i'm thinking every 14-card hero is actually 14 individual heroes from the same universe but different timelines all in the same timeline

    • @lloydkochinka4257
      @lloydkochinka4257 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At first I looked at it as recruiting heroes. However, the cards have specific names relating to actions. So the way I thematically see it, is you have gathered your team of 5 heroes. They are all there in the fight. You are like their commanding officer, or the person in the chair, reading the battlefield and telling them to go perform a specific action. And by buying more cards, you are essentially gaining access to more of their move set and being able to tell them to perform those different actions. But that’s just me! 😉
