You could still get sweet vintage t-shirts from the late 70's/early 80's during this time. Which helped for the fashion. Today, these shirts would cost 500 dollars on Ebay. Goodwill was still loaded with disco-era used goods at this time.
Seeing this music video in my recommended in 2024 is wild. This band was so formative for me - 'Something to Write Home About' is genuinely one of the best records of all time.
I bought that one on a vintage mail catalogue we had in Italy because it had Millencolin's fox in it. I only knew them on the tracklist, cause of the Tony Hawk game where No Cigar was on the soundtrack. Pennywise, The Hives, these guys and many more. That vhs was me becoming a punkrocker in one day 😅

She is NOT crazy, her demands were reasonable...although if the TGUK were performing in MY flat, I would be like 'fuck studying, I want a front row seat!'
I worked at a tattoo studio around the time Get Up Kids went on their anniversary tour. I ended up getting guestlisted for the show after one of the opening bands stopped in. Here I am now reminiscing about a night that made me reminisce about my high school days. Thanks for being there for me!
Lawrence, Kansas is Emo Mecca. Also one of the best places I have ever been, I think the drummer from get up kids had a coffee shop my friend Tom worked at, they had great coffee but even better Bloody Mary’s. Also you can’t beat a North Lawrence Iced Tea, Hamms
I first heard The Get Up Kids when a clerk at Newbury Comics was playing “Four Minute Mile” in the store back in 1997 or 1998. I bought the CD and immediately became a SuperFan. Followed them since, buying every record. Sadly, missed a rare small show 20 minutes from me shortly before they fired James. I’ve led a charmed life where that is one of my biggest regrets. Now, I am old.
Of all the music I've listened to over the years, I'd say this is one of those 'perfect songs.' Everything comes together brilliantly. The video complements it so well, too. What a great achievement in music here.
I loved The Get Up Kids in high school, but I had no idea that they had this music video until now. I wish we had every song and music video in existence on youtube back in the early 2000s like we do now.
Just how young all these guys look compared to how they do today is so funny. I mean, I know it’s been 25 years but still. I’m glad to see the GUK and Reggie still running strong.
Come on guys, remake the video. It would be awesome and hilarious to see the group in present day remaking this shot-for-shot. I was at the farewell tour, I was at the reunion tour, I'll see ya'll in Columbus.
I used to record 120 Minutes on VHS tape every Sunday night, and then I'd watch the videos Monday morning before class. I'll never forget my first time seeing this video, then lucking out and learning that TGUK was playing in Seattle just months from then with The Anniversary and Koufax! It was 1999 and I was only 16 years old and it was my first real punk show!! They introduced me to the punk/emo world and I've never been the same. Ya'll have really made my life so much better because of it. Thank you guys ❤❤❤
Call me crazy but I’ve always liked the “crazy” neighbor more than the blonde… I would’ve happily dated her. We might’ve had some issues regarding the get up kids but I would’ve tried to explain to her that they were doing that thing out of love.
I saw the get up kids open up for weezer like 22 years ago and it was awesome …saw weezer a couple weeks ago and it wasn’t the same with out the get up kids
This album/video was a real turning point for dudes like me who had been listening to nothing but Epitaph and FAT bands. Very suddenly, The Get Up Kids and Saves the Day (along with a lot of other Vagrant artists) changed the musical sensibilities of countless punk kids. Dudes with Screeching Weasel shirts and studded belts quickly traded them in for lip piercings and girl jeans. Yeah, the term "emo" was later bastardized and used as a catch-all for dozens of new rock bands, but what form of art isn't subjected to that type of commodification? It was still a fun time to be young and start a LiveJournal account.
Emo was always kind of a punchline, so it's funny to look back at this now and think that these guys and their contemporaries seem genuinely cool. Take me back to 1999.
What a great time capsule of late 90s - early 2000s clothing.
Back when hardly no one but a few were completely covered in tattoos.
all came from Southern California
Probably the last time in pop culture where you actually had to be there.

the girl is confused because all she hears is screachy noise on her end of the phone, great to finally have it on the official channel
i really think you're bigger than this
The "not big enough for radio play" bands (of all genres during the late 90's and early 00's) were sooooo good!
Seeing this music video in my recommended in 2024 is wild. This band was so formative for me - 'Something to Write Home About' is genuinely one of the best records of all time.
I remember this video because it was included in a VHS called Punxploitation (2000). It was a VHS made by epitaph records and burning heart records.😊

@insidesteplab wow, what a great list of tracks, thanks!
the perfect time capsule of what it was liked to live pre-y2k.
ah… the memories with this band is pure awe and nostalgia…
We need a festival that features the likes of the Get Up Kids, Alkaline Trio, The Swellers, etc.
You guys changed my life, and still are, thanks for everything!
110%
Since 1998!
She is NOT crazy, her demands were reasonable...although if the TGUK were performing in MY flat, I would be like 'fuck studying, I want a front row seat!'
I'd allow them to play great music while I'm studying tbh

Let’s gooo they finally officially posted this lol
We finally got a good quality version lol
I can't believe they didn't get any music videos for Four Minute Mile. 💔
But this one's super fun!
Still in love with "the crazy girl from next door". Always have been. Gosh i'd pick her 😅
'If the world is ending
we toast to it!'
One of my favorite songs, I couldn't agree more!
20년만에 찾아 들어왓습니다. 감동이 밀려오네요.

Did you get that shirt from Old Navy? I KNEW YOU DID, HELL YEAH, RIGHT ON BIETCH
I wish the Get Up Kids lived next to me
I loved The Get Up Kids in high school, but I had no idea that they had this music video until now. I wish we had every song and music video in existence on youtube back in the early 2000s like we do now.
She got the full effect
She has the greatest GuK shirt. Still have never found it anywhere online
You mean 'She got "Reggie and the Full Effect"'?
I was born in 1999, and this is one of my favorite albums of all time.
I graduated HS in 1999, and it's one of my favorite albums, too! 😂
Wow! It's one of my favorite albums of all time aswell. Can you guys tell me your top three or top ten :D
So glad they officially posted it!

Damn I missed this! Had it on a compilation of (I think?) Burning Heart Records vids with The Refused, 59 Times The Pain etc. Nostalgia overload 😢❤

She has lovely eyes
Amazing band been a fan since 4 minute mile.

This is a clearer version than the one that was on the vagrant DVD

Should have used one of those clear phones or a garfield phone 😂
esto sí es pop punk
What's the name of that actress?
WHAT YEAR IS IT
1999
I’ve seen this music video a few times before. Why did I think the girl in the thumbnail was Scarlett Johansson???
lol a very young and skinny James 😮
Wow it’s been a long time! 🥲❤
Playback at 1.25x 😮😮
sounds like a Jeff Rosenstock song

Official?!?!?!???!?!?!?!?!?
Please reunite with Reggie it just doesn’t feel right…it doesn’t feel complete without him :/
