I remember listening to 4 minute mile on repeat in my Honda civic driving to high school every morning, thank you. This voice is important for so many of us! Thank you Get Up Kids for your beautiful music.
The first song the keyboard parts always stood out to me in recording. Even as a youthful lad. I feel like this band really got me into Vagrant along with Saves the Day.
These guys are flawless. I feel so lucky having seen them (and Reggie) live when we were all much younger 😅 “Holiday” is such a banger of an opening track.
Same. All of the vagrant all stars. Beginning with Face to Face. Saves the day were my faves. It was awesome seeing James and Modest Mouse get major label deals.
Never got to see Reggie back in the day (ugh!!!) but I did see the Kids on their 4 Minute Mile tour and it was glorious. Knew nothing about them before seeing them live, and then was hooked (obviously).
@@CurtisKlopereggie was so fun at the height of his powers! One of the best shows I've ever seen was Reggie opening for Reggie and then Reggie headlined (it was billed as Fluxuation, Reggie, Common Denominator). Flux came out it was James and someone else in his band and they mimed the entire trapped in the closet. Incredible. Funny thing, New Amsterdams were playing in the next room at the same venue at the same time. Reggie is back though! He's playing a few shows here and there, look up footage from Furnace Fest, he is back in FULL F'N EFFECT
ive listened to Get Up Kids for years now and I think this is the 1st time ive 'seen' them. amazing. Something To Write Home About is a timeless record
They still sound fantastic, don't they? Saw them a few times but my favorite show of theirs was in Al Contrast's basement in RI, summer 1997. Braid and TGUK both set up at the same time in different parts of the basement and just took turns playing songs. It was great.
I met this cool girl in '01, who brought you to the mixtape of our fledging relationship...which grew into a great love. So wild to hear your voices again. Y'all enbiggened my heart today. Thank you. Rock on.
Been listening to these dudes since 2002 - not like, super old school fan, but yeah, a fan - and man, I'll be damned if I ever saw a photo of what these gents look like. Did NOT expect Matt to look like that. Amazing that his voice still sounds as awesome as it did then.
This is incredible. I’m so happy this exists. Thank you KEXP and the Get Up Kids for making this happen! I know Matt struggles with fans not appreciating later albums enough, well I’m here to say that I’m always hoping for more Guilt Show tracks at live shows!
I know this isn’t their first record but the CD was a gift from my brother about 24 years ago. I still remember it as the first peice of physical music that was MINE. The cd itself along with the case were lost when I car I owned was sold off before I can eject the CD but I still have the CD insert with the lyrics and photos. I will always love this album
Man, years ago I was so into this album. Around 15 years ago I was on bike; just going and going. I knew it was gonna work out. Approaching 20 years of marriage, daughter is healthy, making her way into the world, life is grand and man this album holds a special place in my life, dig it 100%
Man those dual guitar amps, not sure if they are Ampeg Jets or Reverberockets maybe. Sounds so good! I had a 60's Ampeg Jet but couldn't keep it serviced with the old tubes. I've loved the Get Up Kids sound for so long so I'm stoked to see these amps.
Great performance and the mix sounds just amazing!! Everything sounds so clear and distinguible, props to the sound engineers. These songs bring memories. I wish they release another album that sounds so emotional, energetic and intense as the awesome Something To Write Home About was. The next albums were good, but that one had something magical
They were great on tour, and this is great. A lot of folks saying it's good to see these guys again, check them out on tour if you can! Great live band!
The only possible way this video could have even been remotely better is if it had a version of “I’m a loner, Dottie, a rebel”. That’s my all time janthem (jam/anthem).
This band helps me to get through post-Pinkerton life where i need something fresh when Weezer couldnt offer at that time. The whole songs in STWHA are nostalgic and breath-taking
I thought I had outgrown this band during college…and then again a few years later…and then a few years after that. And recently I have gone back again. Just as ever poignant, maybe with slightly different interpretation now. Seeing them this past run exhausted me in all the best ways-physically, emotionally, mentally. Just one of those bands. Thank you again gents.
I will never outgrow On a Wire. I remember the album after I graduated High School and from the sounds captured I knew Id be an old man bopping my head to it. And here I am. 😂
0:27 guitarist on the right (tele) is rocking Nike Killshot 2. They used to be a J.Crew exclusive and tough to find. Today they go on clearance regularly. Definitely add a pair next to your sambas and new balance for casual fridays.
i First saw GUK at the Whiskey off Sunset in Hollywood. They played with Jimmieatworld and Jejune. I don't think they have a full album released yet. I had a demo tape and still have the first couple 7" records. They are still going and that's great. The first time I met Matt he was really nice, the last time I saw him not so much. everyone's human. Good art exists because of many not one.
Damn, I remember exactly where I was when I heard they were ending the band about 15 years ago. I got emotional. The emo scene is a bit part of growing for a lot of us a certain age. Great stuff. This was amazing totally caught me by surprise. 💙
I’m 39 years old. It’s my first Thanksgiving alone… and once again, the Get Up Kids are like a blanket for my soul… thank you Matt Pryor 🙏
Definitely give Alvvays a listen. They did an amazing KEXP... how I discovered them like 3 years ago. Saw em live recently. Amazing
Hope you’re good man ❤
Just turned 39 a couple of weeks ago. God help me.
wow..40 now.. where did the years go.. I remember seeing them live in highschool
@@hypercube5183Same. Saw them open for Weezer on my 16th birthday. Absolutely incredible.

@@danielsells9814 it really is all of us lol.
4 minute mile on cassette…. No skips lol
Same
I bet you looked like a giant in the back of that
The Get Up Adults 🤘🏻
The judges would have also accepted, "The Get Up Dads."
I was a Get Up Kid. Now I’m a Sitting Down Adult 😢😂
Nah it’s still very much The Get Up Kids because no one listens to anything they wrote since they became The Get Up Adults
KEXP studio bookings department is crushing it
They just had Scared of Chaka
Perfect drumming. Their sound hasn’t aged 10 minutes. 1st time I’ve been able to hear what the keyboard is doing!
The first song the keyboard parts always stood out to me in recording. Even as a youthful lad. I feel like this band really got me into Vagrant along with Saves the Day.
From Downtown
I ALSO WANT TO THANK THE CAMERA MAN FOR ALL THE RIGHT SHOTS OF DRUMS BECAUSE I'M FIGURING OUT THE PARTS AND I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO A DRUM COVER 😀👊👊👊
If you cant figure out drums by ear, give up kids!
wow, i had no idea how emotional this would make me. time machine.
Right 🥲
You're so Emo 😂

"The Company Dime" is such a legendary track and I'm so glad to being hearing it so much in 2024
Such an underrated gem of a track. One if my absolute favorites
Stupidly underrated song.
I'm still waiting for (I'm still waiting for)
You to get over this
God they are still so good. What a powerful energy !
This is a few years overdue...but I'm here for it.
I can’t believe I’m seeing the Get Up Kids on here!
what would my youth (and my life) have been without this band? i can only say “thank you”.
We needed this today
No way! This was my favourite album for a whole summer. Welcome back!
I’m singing at the top of my voice. I love this band I love this album and I can’t wait to see them again soon. ❤❤❤
This was one of the albums I listened to when I backpacked through Europe in 2005. So many memories. Hoping to see these guys in January.
That’s trippy, literally exact same thing for me except in 2003

@thomasadams8727 yeah that sounds about right. I think I sat on top of a skate ramp. How big was that basement haha
90s basement shows in New England were always great!

You've been around long enough. I think 2002 is when On a Wire came out. My favorite album from them... but I like them all.
Check out the New Amsterdams if you haven’t. Great stuff
Haven’t seen this band live since 1998! So lovely to see
I saw these guys open for Green Day back in January of 2001, right around the time of Bush 43’s inauguration. Feels like another lifetime ago.
I could not have smashed the like button harder! These are literally two of my favorite things ever: Get Up Kids + KEXP!
My wife and I are among the few that TGUK means so much to. Couldn't have asked for a better show in Philly!!
These are the most nostalgic sounds of my life
I saw them play live in Mexico this year, it was Amazing!!
The Woodson EP is amazing.. All time Favorite bands..
Watching this with my Four Minute Mile splatter vinyl hanging on the wall behind me. Y'all have gotten me through some shit, thank you 🤘🤟
Fellas, you got me thru middle school. Appreciate you!

The Grown Up Kids (this video is fucking awesome)
So much "yes"!!!
What a way to open the set drummer: 'are you ready?' and next the band is into it all the way 🚀
The get up men!
LET'S ALSO HEAR IT FOR THE SOUND GUY BECAUSE THE MIX IS 👌, 👏👏👏👏👏👏

They still sound great! I really enjoyed their show in Chile the past August!!
Hands down my FAVE live session so far!!
One of my all-time favorite bands since I first heard them in the late '90s. This is incredible!
I’m seeing them on this 25th Anniversary tour in February on Long Island, NY. Can’t wait!
THANK YOU KEXP!!! ACTION ACTION!!!!
I love when a band like this can age but still sound virtually the same as they always have. Matt's voice is still perfect.
Something To Write Home About is still one of my all time favorite albums.
I miss these days so much. Something to write home about was all I listened too!!

I had no idea how much I needed to see this.
Every time i started thinking about clicking away, that drummer would draw me right back in. You guys killed it, solid performance 10/10!!
Such a brilliant band. These dudes still got it! Timeless stuff
Something about the drum beat and the lead guitar part in The Company Dime always hit me extra hard.
Simply wonderful
The only possible way this video could have even been remotely better is if it had a version of “I’m a loner, Dottie, a rebel”. That’s my all time janthem (jam/anthem).
I love how much the keys come through on this performance. They're so buried on the record.
