Yes. Always thought this was the best Classic mega. The slide adds a whole new level of depth, and the level design is brilliant. Each encounter has a solution. Your points are direct and soberly delivered.

Mega Man 3, or should I say Rockman 3 was very first Mega Man game I ever played. I played a lot of NES games back in the day but this one sticked out the most. I only played it once back in the day but it still was a strange experience. It's still my favourite of the NES games.
Toady, however, I have played this game so much to the point where my nostalgia almost died down. But whenever I hear the title, I cry.

Yes this was my favorite Mega Man, and also the first i've ever played as a kid. a friend had it and we always played it before we drived with our bicycles to the public outdoor pool. we used to play "Mega Man" there as well, choosing a boss char to be and then try pushing each other in the pool to win. 😂 man this was a golden summer and some of my best childhood memories. greetings from Germany. 🙂

Wow, that sounds like a great memory! At my local pool they had a lot of rules and wouldn't let us push each other.

    My score for RMs
    1. Needle Man: Needle Man is one of the most underrated RM is the franchise. He is difficult but his faulty AI works in his favour than against his. His Needle Canon were Touhou before Touhou existed. His headbutt attack is also pretty neat. Shame his weakness is kind of asinine. 8/10
    2. Magnet Man: There's something which is attractive about him. Puns aside Magnet Man has a good pattern. He jumps twice accross the room and executes two attacks. His Magnet Missile which homes and it is fun to dodge and his Super Magnet draw which first of all looks cool like he is something sort of DBZ charector and security it is not too strong to be cheap and not too weak to be non-existent. It just hits that sweet spot. His weakness is okay but it kills him too fast before the fight even starts. My two problems are that this fight is a way too easy. I would've made his Missiles faster and their explosive larger and his Magnet Missiles home directly below him because they ignore you if you there. 7/10
    3. Gemini Man: For a cool design, Gemini Man has a very disappointing fight. He and his clones just run back and forth and shoot when you shoot. It is also a ver panic inducing fight which I was never a fan of. Plus his clone also take damage. I would have made his clone a little bit different and ignore your shots. His second phase is, much more interesting. First of all, I believe this is the first RM to have a two-phased fight. I am indifferent about this idea however. Second it is a bit better but still flawed. He lags the game very much and he turns around whenever he pleases. There's also a glitch where he just disappears, soft-locking the game. Weakness doesn't help. 5/10
    4. Hard Man: Hard Man! The "That" robot master of Mega Man 3, you know the one. Hard Man has a bery strict pattern and I was never a fan of that. I prefer reaction based bosses. His sprite is also so unappealing. However the bigger flaw of this fight is that he doesn't deal enough damage and if you have enough HP, you can just brute force through it. However, his weaker is the best in the game as it compliments his jumping pattern and he is somewhat doing no miss no damage. 3/10
    5. Top Man: Unpopular opinion but I like Top Man's design. That's all the good things about this fight. Do you know what's the bigger problem of Top Man? Yep, he repeats the exact same pattern over and over again. He throws 3 somewhat too fast homing spinning tops and then spin towards you. That's it. I agree that his spin is somewhat randomized but it is still very pattern heavy. His weaknesses works I guess. 2/10
    6. Snake Man: Just like Gemini Man, Snake Man has a cool design but an underwhelming bossfight. His start is kind of rough as you have to make a rough jump no matter what he does. But then he repeats what he does. The saving grace of his fight is the uneven terrain. I am not sure about what his attacks actually are and he only has one of them. Personally I would have given him a Tanooki Spin attack. Needle Canon works okay but it feels somewhat unsatisfactory. 5.5/10
    7. Spark Man: Spark Man is another robot master that is flawed. First of all, his design is ugly as hell. Second his pattern is extremely simple like Jump once or thrice, fire 8 ways sparks which are fun to dodge and then a awkwardly timed shot. He doesn't even chase the player. The thing that ruins the fight for me is the platform next to the gate. It is too high to dodge that awkwardly timed shot. Weakness does compliment the uneven terrain of the fight. 4.5/10
    8. Shadow Man: I am honestly not sure about what to do with Shadow Man. He is my personal favourite RM in the game but his fight is flawed. It is randomized what he will do, whether he will slide towards you or throws his blades. All of them comes way too fast. To add insult to the injury, his weakness is the second worst weakness ever. A melee weapons against a boss where you have to take your distance. The saddest part about him is that as much as his RNG heavy pattern is flawed, it is still the best the way it is. Doing anything will ruin his fight for me. Making slides and blades alternate would make him too easy. Slowing him down make him too easy. Distance detection would make him too easy. The only improvement would be making Top Spin not his weakness and replace it will Gemini Laser. The only way you can really impove it is you have replace his entire pattern make a new one. I will not go as far as to say to totally replace this RM because I still love him plus he has an awesome design and he still has a fun fight despite its flaws. But I guess my love for Shadow Man pretty much sums up my love for Mega Man 3. But as much as it hurts me to say this, his score would be 4/10 pretty much carried by his awesome design.

I'm really digging your reviews, dude! You really put thought into reflecting objectively on the highs and lows of the each game in the Mega Man series. This was the first Mega Man game that I ever owned, after I got it from my birthday, I believe, in 1990.
Mega Man 2 was the first one I ever played, after renting it from the local video store when I was probably 6 years old. I have a lot of nostalgia for this game, and I've heard other TH-camrs put forth a pretty compelling argument that this was a not quite finished game, especially since you can't listen to the full Wily Castle music in game.
I'd like to say that this was my favorite Mega Man game, but it really isn't. I come back to Mega Man 2 and 4 much more often, and if I still owned all six of them like I did many years ago, I would probably go back to Mega Man 5 a lot as well, since that was another one that I really enjoyed, even though a lot of people don't like that one quite as much.
Anyway, another great review, and I'm working my way back to Mega Man 1 in your reviews. Next stop: Mega Man 2!

This has to be my favorite, with part 4 coming pretty close. To me this is as good as it got with Megaman. I like all of the other games (most of them anyway) but this is my favorite. Can’t remember anymore what was the first one I played, it was either this or part 2, but this has the best music imo. Gameplay wise they are similar so the music was the one that placed this as #1 for me, part 4 coming close second and then MM2 as my #3.

Was my favorite megaman game as a kid and would play it a ton. Now when I play classic megaman I don’t come to it as much, partly because it’s way too easy and to me it does feel unfinished. I still like it though and love the nostalgia of still playing it.
Honestly I really like the megaman 2 boss fight segments. I used to wonder what the other four unused levels would look like if they used that. I also wish that concept carried over to other games, maybe just done better because many people don’t like that portion of the game. I would love to see what that concept would have been like say for instance in megaman 4 they reused all the levels with one Megaman 3 boss in each, but the levels were half as long. Or maybe as in each of the later games you get a mashup between any of the previous games bosses and it would be fun to guess which ones they would be.

Great review! Mega Man 3 is my favourite of the NES Mega Man games. One little piece of criticism: when you talk about a specific segment in a game, it would be good to show footage of that segment. You were talking about the four remix stages at one point, but the footage shown was from Shadow Man's original stage. Showing actual footage from the remix stages would make it easier to illustrate your point. But apart from that, great job!

Mega Man 3 isn't without its flaws but it is still a good experience. The stages actually have content, bosses have elaborate patterns and weapons are designed around stages and vice versa. Maybe the stages are quite heave on forced Rush Coil use. But just like Mega Man 2, this game gives up after the Robot Master stages. Doc Robots are next to impossible while wily stages are laughing stock. Biggest problem of 3 is it's lag and input. But Mega Man 3 does have the best Mega Man Music ever made and is the basis for future Mega Man games. 6.6/10
Edit: You know you don't need to explain everytime how Mega Man works.
Edit 2: Also Mega Man 3 is a delightfully paradoxical game, in a sense that stages in this game are too short for what they are yet this is a long game for what it is.

You might want to check out the Wily Wars version of MM3 because it fixes some of the bugs. There is some slow down but that already existed in the original. • @robmoore3176
    @robmoore3176 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Things people don't like in Mega Man 3 101: No one complains about Yoku's because of rush jet in mm3 and the doc stages.
As I said in the mm1 video, I think Mega Man has basically perfect controls, and that is 100% the case in mm3. They even add a slide so you don't get to say stuff like Mario is more fun to run around and whatever, because sliding around is better.
Rush Jet absolutely, 100% does in fact cheese the entire game (especially if you do the jumping strat), and this is especially apparent if you play rom hacks of mega man/rockman 3. You can basically just use Rush Jet to avoid every single obsticle in the game. That is literally Mega Man 3's only flaw other than maybe less than inspired Wily stages as a whole, but considering how long and difficult the doc stages are, it's kind of a breath of fresh air.
My other biggest gripe is 9 etanks. Mega Man 2 you lose etanks after you game over. Being able to keep your etanks after gameover + 4 etanks is optimal I think. Makes the game too easy especially because they just throw etanks at you about as hard as they can in the wily stages, they really want you to beat the game, unlike in mm2, where wily 4 is there to crush you and steal your etanks OR make you farm like I did as a kid. I'd use 1 life to just break the barriers, then die, farm crash, then go abck and kill the beams, but having a plan of dying to go back and finish the job isn't a good thought process, even if that's what I'd always do to beat Ninja Gaiden, defeat your dad, lose to Jacquio and warp to get more Magic. Anyway...
Top Spin takes a PH.D in Mega Man 3 to understand how it works (actually if you are in s and you're fighting an enemy that takes more than 1 damage, you'll lose a TON of it's ammo.
The Doc Stages are perfect, thank you!
Hmm, I guess I never thought about how the proto man fight teaches you about slide usage, but I suppose it does. I think the section in Hard Mans stage where you are forced to slide is the place where you learn about both the slide and Rush because you have to use rush in the next room after the forced slide part. Gemini stage also teaches you about Rush Coil because you must use it, but I'll be damned if I haven't seen someone named DARKO who has made that jump without it.
MM3 has the best music imo. And is the best mega man game overall. And probably the best game on the NES.

Not bad for a game released while in beta eh? If you're interested, look up the history behind how the game was made. There's unused content in the code of the game, they were planning on an opening cut scene like what MM2 had, and some of the Wily stages were unfinished. Also several robot master stages were made before the knew which robot master would be in them. They had real high ambitions for the game, but with staff issues and the deadline they had to meet they never did manage to bring everything they wanted into the game and refine it the way they wanted to. Also, the backstory in the manual would've just left you confused. It was written before they had to cut content and plans for the game.
Mega Man 3 is a hot mess, but a good hot mess IMO. For what we got, it still managed to be one of my top 20 games on the NES. Lessons were learned and they redefined expectations for Mega Man 4 after this one.

Always hated 3. I never understood what people saw in it. The story is so poorly presented to the point of near comedy, which wasn't a massive deal in the first two games since they didn't really have a plot beyond Wily being bad and needing to stop him, but 3 gets has a whole lot of story and shows very little of it.
The Doc Robot stages kill the pacing. I don't know who plays the Robot Master stages and says "Wow! I want to do that all again with worse level design and shittier versions of the bosses from the last game!" It doesn't help that they're followed up by the abysmally average Wily castle 3, which is not only a massive drop in difficulty, but also suffers from rehash syndrome. Half of the Wily Castle bosses are just worse versions of the Wily bosses from 1, and the other half are piss easy. I genuinely cannot think of a single reason to play 3 past the eight Robot Masters.
That's probably 3's biggest issue. All of it's content is either worse versions of things from the last two games, or would be done far better in it's sequels. I cannot think of a single reason to pick 3 over any of the games after it if I tried. Hell, I'd rather play Mega Man 3 on Dos. It controls infinitely worse, but it's not an experience I can get better from the game right next to it like the NES version. No disrespect to people who like 3, though. God knows the games I grew up with weren't as perfect as I remember them.

I will also give my full review on it
It’s good. The robot master stages are really good and the best part of the game. The weapons overall are mostly good, the robot masters needed something else to them but they were still good. But after the stages is where I have problems with megaman 3. The doc robots. Long Drawn out stages, stupidly ludicrous fights, and the wily stages are way too short, easy and unmemorable. And this game holds my least favorite final boss in any game. A final boss should not be this easy. Overall, megaman 3 for me gets a 7/10.

Interesting that you didn't like the final boss. It definitely wasn't my favorite, but I didn't hate it. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah. I’m a guy who appreciates challenge, but not too much challenge. My favorite final bosses are megaman 10 and 9’s. Even megaman 7’s is one of my favorites

Honestly the worst of the original 6 imo, feels more unfinished than it actually is

I understand how the part between the core robot masters and the Wily castle feels incomplete, but I loved the game overall.
