Been a Stones fan for 50 years but never knew this existed until now. Amazing - Mick Jagger at his best. The Red Devils - raw, authentic blues. I loved the Blue & Lonesome album but I think that this is even better. Big thx to the person who posted this.
One of the best bluesband's ever with the legendary Lester Butler on harp. Mick is okay, but you can't do wrong with a raw, filthy and groovin band like this. 😎
I agree, Mick was always just ok on harp. Brian Jones was superior to Mick. Just listen to Look What You've Done, I Just Wanna Make Love To You, Not Fade Away, The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man, Good Times Bad Times. Those are all Brian on Harp.
So very true. I'm a big Stones fan & now I've heard 100's of rarities, outtakes, different versions, bootlegs etc in the last few years. Previously only dreamed of hearing! It's a marvel haha!
Mick Jagger and the Red Devils....Wow👌👌👌👌Holy moses this albums should have win 20 grammys.. I love the Rolling Stones with my Lifesblood... But this album...Howlin Wolf,Muddy, and all the other great blues guys couldn't done this better. Gigantic....awesome🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟⭐⭐🌟🌟🌟🌟
Blues have a True Feeling when its played with Great Musicians- glad to find this back in the early 2000s Thanks to TH-cam for putting this out for many to Boogie On
Why have I only just discovered this wonderful Jagger blues music. Thanks for uploading. As everyone else has already asked... Why can't I buy this on cd for my extensive Jagger/Stones collection ???. Let's be honest , it's not like any of The he Stones to pass up on an extra few pounds/ bucks. Release this officially please. Love it.
If you've seen interviews of him, you will understand why everybody loves him. He is really a very nice down to earth person. His facebook side is really his and not some fan who put post of him on facebook. He even answers questions from his fans on twitter in a video clip he put on his facebook side. ;)
How come this was never released? It's the best thing Jagger or any of the Stones, for that matter, have done in the past 30 years. The band is tight and Jagger's vocals aren't forced (unlike many of his more recent efforts); they're real and they fit perfectly with the music. This is a great blues album and it really deserves to see the light of day.
Rolling Stone wrote "To this day, nobody quite knows how it happened, though some of the band believe that Butler - who died in a drug misadventure - sold the tapes for drug money." The RS article also says "bootlegs of the session began popping up at record stores in Tokyo, and then all over the globe."
Could not agree more ... to me Jaggers tone is true amazing Blues with this Band .. and boy the harp shuffle on 'ain't your business' (LB I suppose) is purring . :)
One of the first things The Stones did in 1964 upon coming to America was settle in for about two months with Muddy Waters in Chicago. The Stones recorded with Muddy and they swore that the old man was God. This shows that Mick learned his lessons well.
@@jimaglenn It’s Lester Butler.... I Like Mick’s Harp especially’’ Midnight Rambler’’ like I posted ‘’like a rolling stone’’........Besides Mick’s piano/guitar work...... great singer.... have a drink

Is wonderful listen to this, I love this album, in my opinion the best blues songs of Mick Jagger, he could sing more blues, is great, he has the style..
This was recorded in LA with Lester Butler and the Red Devils, Jagger went back to his Chicago Roots....This need to be released, awesome session.........The Stones should make a Chess Chicago style album, go back to the Roots! :)
so good to know the blues thru the super medium powerful baritone VOCALS of Mick Jagger. His vocal and projection is so fierce primal guttural that a short piece of a blues melody from the classic blues seem to be little for his POTENT CADENT SHOOTING VOCAL ACTS. ALWAYS JUICY CHOICE ON REPERTOIRE.
The Stones first few albums were Rythm and Blues as was Fleetwood Mac. The Stones really rocked but when the psychodelic came in all rhe music changed away from R&B to a lot of junk and album fillers. Beatles first album was one of their best. This is definitely a rare album, It rocks with Jagger. The original Animals were a rockin group but never got the following they should have. Eric Burdon was another great singer. Sad to see so many are gone.
Don't know much about the Red Devils but having heard this I can now see how good they really are/were. The Stones were good at R&B in their early days but this album is many times better than anything they ever recorded in their glory R&B/Blues days.
I vividly remember Mick sitting in the booth in the back of the room opposite the stage one night at the King King. Can't remember if it was late 91 or sometime in 92.
I come back and listen to this album every 4 weeks or so. This is one of the best, raw blues albums ever recorded. Should be released on CD so everyone can understand where Mick roots are firmly planted. Lester Butler was a great harp player and the band is super tight.
Mick Jagger became a rediculous caricature of himself by 1980. But the man could really freaking sing back in the day. This stuff is GREAT. Thanks for posting.
He still is a ridiculous caricature. A once great vocalist gone to bad like Rod Stewart and Paul Rodgers. Steve Marriott died before he became too embarrassing.Old men can sing the blues if they have integrity but not if they have celebrity.
What bullshit...He is fucking great & always has been!!!! Caricatures don't remain infinitely popular whose band still sells out faster than ny band ever & always has. In the 1980's you were lucky to get a ticket when they sold out Giants Stadium (9) days in a row at 80k fans a night. What foolish jealous bullshit you spew...
Blues singers tend to get better with age, even Clapton, when he gets down to the blues, can belt a good one. But the masters like R.L. Burnside, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters to mention a few got better singing the blues. But I get what you are saying about some performers being parodies of themselves, but Jagger ain't one of them.
Excellent, great backing band and Jagger excels. Many thanks for uploading, I really enjoyed it. Saved to Stones playlist, naturally! With a bit of tidying up these sessions would have made a great release for all blues and Jagger/Stones fans.
Thinkin’ this sounds like Paul Butterfield Blues Band. On the other hand it’s surprising that Mick would hold still long enough to do an entire album with them (vs just a song or two). Reminds me of Fancy Man Blues which was a B side on one of the Stones 45’s back in the 90’s.
This is absolutely excellent...it blows away any solo Jagger...which I never listen to anyway....because that shit nearly ended the Stones....thank God he flopped and went back to the Stones....this is a perfectly acceptable solo excursion....
@@Methilde okaaayyyyy.......I heard it once....puked....and never listened again...i remember the song that he ripped off a reggae guy .( on the Godawful Just One Night )..he was successfully sued ......jagger blew off the Stones.....thought he would be some kind of rod stewart or bon jovi.....failed miserably.....( pathetically doing stones songs with his solo band ).....and came crawling back to the stones....there is absolutely no doubt that the best Stones solo albums are Ron Wood....Richards are pretty good.....Mick Taylor has some phenomenal live albums and 2 great studio releases.....
