The name of this group is PENTATONIX. There is NO "THE". They all have incredible ranges. Any one of them could have a successful solo career. Scott has a new album out. It's called Parallel & it's awesome! They all have solo songs or albums. They have 12+ years of material out as a group and solo, so it's gonna take y'all a long time to hear it all, and trust me it is ALL epic because they are magic perfect aliens!!! That's apparent, because there is no other logical explanation for who/what they are!😉
There is no "The". It is just Pentatonix. Actually, Matt has a beautiful falsetto as well - there is some debate as to whether or not Matt actually has a bigger range than Scott. But both of them have incredible ranges regardless.
Why does it seem like almost everyone misses that Kevin is actually doing 4 things in this song? 🤔 He's beatboxing, playing the cello and doing a tiny bit of fantastic singing, yeah, but if you look at the pedals near his feet you'll see he's also LOOPING! 🤯 OMG, he's just ridiculously talented. 😅👍
Not sure if you guys know, but Kevin is a tenor. Mitch has said in interviews that he cannot get as high as Kevin does. If you really want Kevin to blow your mind, check out Kevin's Fifth. It is live from when they are on tour. He is one of the most talented out there.
Really enjoyed the reaction! Pentatonix does it again and this one could be Grammy worthy. I got a good chuckle when you paused and talked about how high Matt and Scott got. All I could think was "Wait till they hear Kevin!" .
The whole song is full of surprises, but the KO moment was a top tier surprise!!! I watched this video a few hours before getting to see them do this in concert! They made a great song absolutely EPIC!
Kevin is using about three or four different parts of his brain simultaneously in this performance - playing the cello, beatboxing simultaneously, and surprising us with one helluva vocal falsetto note, then back to cello. That's the mark of an undeniable, disciplined genius. He's flawless. And he makes it look easy. But overall, a decent reaction. Many thanks. ❤
@@Gonegirls12 yeah. I know. I meant he was beat boxing, playing cello And using his looper if you listen carefully there's another set of strings. So what I was saying is that he was doing like four things during the song which is impressive. I wasn't attacking KO, I was admiring him.
At an early age, Kevin began learning piano, cello and saxophone. He performed at Carnegie Hall twice as soloist on the cello and saxophone and has appeared on NPR’s “From The Top." After finishing high school at Phillips Academy Andover, Kevin enrolled in Yale University where he was a pre-med and majored in East Asian Studies. He spent 18 months in Beijing becoming fluent in Chinese as a part of his Yale fellowship. While in college, Kevin began developing his “celloboxing” skills and in 2009 won second place in the “Celebrate and Collaborate with Yo-Yo Ma” international competition.
Been following your PTX Journey! As y'all are rather new to them, and seem impressed with Kevin, I'll suggest TH-cam-ing "Kevin's 5th"! Must find the 17+ minute video! On their Christmas Tour 2022, in Kentucky (?) Kevin's home state, Scott tells a quick story about how "The Trio"... Scott, Kirstie and Mitch, found Kevin for the competition show "The Sing-Off". Then gives Kev the stage to show his GENIUS! Kevin coinde the phrase "Cello-Boxing"... this will blow your guys minds, guaranteed! 🤯
You should totally do “Pure Imagination/Christmas time is here” next. I really don’t think it’s a coincidence that Freddie Mercury passed exactly 8 months before Mitch was born. You see it in the video for this song big time…audibly and visually.
Kevin rarely sings being the beatboxer and being an acapella group he hardly plays the cello as well but I love when he does. My favorites that he sings in are is “Sing” a PTX original and their unofficial ‘theme song’ (as they most of the time use it as a starter song during concerts) and “Children go where I send thee” a Christmas cover. He also plays the cello in their cover of “Perfect”. He’s by far my favorite member
Pentatonix always puts a surprise or two into their arrangements-here it was Kevin's cello solo and strong falsetto, in addition to the raspy Scott who came in from the side. Brilliant arrangement.
Thank you. I made sure, to tune in. I requested it and you said, Saturday. Great reactions! You guys keep talking about Mitch slapped...do Aha Singapore. You wanna be KO'd? Do Kevin's Fifth. You want to learn more about them, as a group, do Recording of Evergreen. It's fun to watch you. It's only PENTATONIX (PTX). The fans are The Pentaholics. We all know, you're part of the Pentaholics. Think you would really enjoy their newest video… It’s a mashup of pure imagination from Willy, Wonka and Christmas is here from Charlie Brown. The nostalgia and mood of the song is pretty amazing.
Great job guys. I respect Pentatonix but they aren't really someone I listen to often. This song however has been playing in my house since it came out. And the looks on all ya'll faces when Kevin hit that note.. priceless.
Loved Jerzey's comment about Mitch's moustache. Especially in light of what Jerzey said in your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction video... that Mitch's face looked exactly like Freddy if you could just slap a mustache on. So here we have a more grown-up Mitch with the Freddy. Moustache and Freddy hair, and... Voila! (Fun fact: Mitch was born 8 months after Freddy died.) (On the other hand, Mitch's dad, Mike, has a moustache like that, so I guess it's just a Grassi thing after all.)
Kevin Olusola has a solo video of "Down" (cover) in his own studio. Loops his cello, keyboard, , beatboxing, cello-boxing, vocals and a whole slew of mind-blowing awesomeness. And gives a grin at the end that says "God, I SLAYED that." I guarantee you will love it. Makes this (amazing) performance pale by comparison.
I think y'all would love reacting to the making of Evergreen. You get an inside look with them at the studio recording. It's amazing to see their process.
KO is /The/ creator of Celloboxing he went viral doing a rendition of Mark Summers Julie O while he was doing PreMed at Yale... KOs solo was his Electric Cello Mr Carter aka Jay-Z, his traditional Cello is Beyonce 😁
They did Seal dirty. 😅 This upgrade was AMAZING. If you want to hear KO being otherworldly with his talent then react to "Kevin's 5th" the full length live performance. Thank you for the great reaaction.
You guys are great! It's a pleasure to listen to you. Yes, many agree that this is PTX's most mature cover... Pentatonix (without THE) are constantly growing, surprising again and again - if that's even possible. Obviously. But don't overlook the awesome "work" of Kirstin and Mitch; they literally rocking it. Kirstin always provides amazing background anyway. PTX is a band of extraordinary talents and extraordinary people. This is an indisputable fact.
Yeah, Kevin is increadibly talented, he can indeed beatbox while playing the cello, also sing. He's always there in the background normally supporting the songs, its sometimes easy to overlook him because we are focusing so much on the vocal performances going on around him, but he's a beast
If you watch the camerawork, there's not a single cut in the entire performance - one single take through the entire song. At the end of Kirstie's solo part, you can see Kevin reaching out with his foot to change the settings on his pedal pad so that his electric cello will now sound like an electric guitar. Ogre: "Of course Mitch is the one going to take the lead on this." Scott: Hold my beer! Matt: Now hold mine!
😊❤❤ EPIC is about all we can say!! Kevin is playing an electric cello. It's so funny the way you paused, it was always right before another epic moment!! LOL 😅 Great reaction guys!! 😊❤❤
In the studio version it sounds like Mitch is the lead on the part Kirstie does in this live, which I agree is still pretty quiet. There are a few other differences here from the studio one

Thanks for the fun reaction, gents! Uncle AJ's glasses might be dual purpose--optical and keeping his eyeballs in his head, surprise after surprise. Loved the nods of appreciation all around when Matt soloed!😍
Ok, you guys got K.O.'d. I'm looking forward to seeing the compliation video of reactors getting K.O.'d by him. There's a couple of videos of various reactors surprised by Kevin's singing. And getting Mitch slapped. Just to let you know, Kevin invented cello boxing. The video that brought him to Scott's attention when he was looking for a beat boxer before they got an audition for the sing off, season 3 is still up, and he still plays it during concerts. Kevin showed this talent during Yo-Yo Ma's cello competition, which Kevin placed 2nd. Face it, PTX is full of musical alien unicorns. They all play instruments. They are A Capella, but if they are going to be using an instrument, they show it. They changed things up a bit when they competed on the masked singer. Now, that includes a major Mitch slap. Enjoy.
Kevin plays the cello while beatboxing. He calls it cello boxing. He also speaks fluent Mandarin and graduated from Yale pre-med. He is a world-class cello player having performed at Carnegie Hall on cello and also think saxophone. He also plays keyboards produces and arranges music. To see the beginnings of how Kevin ended up with Pentatonix and his Genesis within Pentatonix and his cello boxing I highly suggest the video Kevin's fifth

Kevin Olusola, if any of you want to have a look at some of his stuff. Check out Prayers for This World, written by the great Diane Warren; their cover of Creep from the Masked Singer reveal (also live); and their recent original I Rise (lyric video). And Ogre, yeah, there’s no The. Whoever has been introducing them that way is wrong. Loved the reaction, guys, keep ‘em coming! Peace …
About the only thing Kevin didn't do in this performance is knit a sweater and sing in fluent Mandarin Chinese, which he can also do. Oh, since he was in pre-med in college, he could probably also remove your appendix, if necessary. Scott, Kirstie, Mitch, and Matt each can sing in so many octaves that there is no song existent that they cannot perform, especially when they mix their voices together to achieve absolute perfection. Just found you guys and subscribed. Keep the stupidity coming and I'll be watching and feeling right at home.
When the bass does a solo part, Scott takes over the bass part. If you listen closely, you can hear him go very low on his riff when he hands over the solo to Matt. Matt can sing some higher notes beautifully and riffs almost as well as Scott. We also got to hear some of Mitch's lower range which was such a treat. Although Kirstie didn't have a solo, her trilling high notes seemed to weave in and out everywhere. And then KO... for the knock out! Pentaholics know PTX doesn't do "covers". They do UPGRADES. Every. Single. Time.
K.O. for a reason. Only Kevin... yeah, beatboxing/looping/master class Cellist/developing fab singer & more. All PTX slayed this, with Kirsten being reserved for the sake of the piece (but she was still en point for the whole song)
Sorry this is so long. One thing to remember is that 3 members have a 5 octave range, I don't know about Kevin, because he doesn't sing that much (I do prefer his normal tenor voice to his falsetto, but what do I know), that leaves Mitch, our boy Mitch has at least a 6.5 octave, and probably more, but he refuses to let others know his true top or bottom note. Part of that is he's afraid he'll hurt his voice, which I can understand. There has only been one personal change that was in 2017, Avi Kaplan the bass singer left for various reasons, and Matt Salee came on board. The face most people make when they hear Mitch's voice is called a Mitch Slap.
Love that you guys did this reaction, but THE is not before Pentatonix. Yes people do introduce them that way, but it’s not like the band will correct them especially in real-time.

Avi could sing 2 notes at the same time.
I love Avi too but this reaction is not about him.
You need to listen tonDan Vasc's version. You will love it
Sorry this is so long.
