We have been talking about doing more videos in the spring. We both live in the north and it gets more difficult to coordinate. Any ideas of what YOU would like to see in another video?

Brad, at 3:22 right at the 9 o-clock position of the final drive and mostly obscured by the drive plate for the rear wheel, there is a plug with a sealing washer. You can see it on the BMW parts listing (Max BMW) Diagram #33_1715. What is that flush plug for? Nobody seems to know. Might it be a level plug like we used to use on older final drives. Certainly not easy to get to unless the back wheel is off.

It's certainly not used for filling to a level...that technique has not been used since the pre HexHead R1200. There is no reference to what its use might be for, and since we know the proper quantity for refill, and procedure, I'll let "sleeping dogs lie".

    Hey Brad,
Do you not recommend to apply grease to the back of the pads where they contact the pistons? I was looking in the service manual and they actually do not call for grease anywhere when replacing brake pads (maybe because they want to minimize the chance of grease getting on the brake pads/rotors?). It seems like the sliding pins are definitely a good spot to grease. I also greased the contact surface like you showed in the video.
Also, just wanted to mention, I think I found something wrong on your torque spec sheet for the R1250RT. The wheel speed sensor for the rear uses a T30 and the torque value from the service manual is 8 Nm. Your sheet lists it as a T25 and 5 Nm.

Hi Gary, I do not recommend putting grease between the brake pad backing plate and either the brake pistons or the caliper.
You are correct! The bolt that holds both the front and rear wheel speed sensors is M6, therefor is correctly engaged with a T30...and the torque should be 8Nm. I'll make that change to my Torque Sheet for both the WetHead and the ShiftHead. Thanks
