Think you very brave to go on the river it seems dangerous to me I think on the whole the canal is safer thanks for the vlog you make us smile tc 👍😉Ann n David
Hello Ann and David. They can be dangerous. It's my favourite, cruising on the rivers. I'm cruising the river Ouse now. Wonderful time of year. Stay tuned..
The acid tank location is actually the site of a modern electric power station. It replaces a huge 8 chimney monolithic coal fired power station with two huge water cooling towers, all now demolished. Hence the electric transmission towers and cables in that area and that long loading berth was where coal was delivered by barge from the Wakefield area. That double lock often overspills. If you get the paddle sequence wrong it will flood. It did it to me once when I was following a boat up. The boat in front hadn't closed the paddle properly. The place where you stopped at the end of the vlog is close to the Dewsbury Arm of the canal. A short 300 m dead end leading to a wharf where there is a very interesting pub called The Leggers. Converted from canal horse stables and hayloft. Worth the diversion as they do food and good real ale.
Hi Will A nice bit of Lock management in there great Vlog looks like you’re really having fun happy days I thought I heard Josh moaning but it was you😂😂😂👍👍👍👍
Those locks are a funny design. If you like balls then that's the canal to collect them. I watched Josh having a good old moan. Bless him. We get those days us boaters. Moan moan moan...😆😆🤣🤣 Cheers for watching Thomas
Vent Solution: A metal shot glass turned upside down. Drill holes in the rim of the metal cup. Use wire to stays at the drill points. The tank still vents as holes are on side. The cup merely prevents blow back. Test this by placing a shot glass over your finger.
That's a great idea. I've found an actual vent that stops water. It's black plastic and I love polishing my brass but I'm willing to forfeit that brass vent for a proper designed one. They're £10.99 on flee bay so that means £300 in a chandlers. Ha ha Cheers David
Looks very dreary and grey round those parts but i suppose the weather can do that. Its a shame about the litter everywhere, a lot of it gets washed up onto the banks when it floods. Thanks again Will. 👍
Hello Janice. It was dreary weather. Cold. Like you say alot of rubbish comes from storms and Floods. Still cold now at the end of April. Brrr. Take care.
I've got it This time I've really got it. A tennis ball. Cut a slit in a tennis ball just big enough to squeeze it over the fuel vent for a snug fit.. It Will still breath, but it should hold on tight enough to not come off in a water deluge. And it will still allow you to tie off. AND and if you loose it, you can always find another along the towpath or floating in the cut. CCHHEERRSSSSS
Nice one Will corbels that’s the word ya looking for the bits on that bridge wether don’t look to clever down here in Bournemouth it’s been sunny for weeks now .i miss the snow in winter but I hated it when I lived up there mad init have you sorted ya valve yet .Cheers Will staysafe dude big up the tiller man 🔧🙂🦢✌️
Hello Lee. It's sunny but cold up here. Bournemouth was great for being warmer. I've found a valve that's designed to stop water getting in. It should bolt straight on. Tenner. Bargain. I just need to find a chandler's now that sells them. I don't miss Bournemouth. It became to busy to get any where. Cheers
Hi Will, how about as a quick fix for the vent, cutting the top off a 2lt pop bottle and putting it over the vent. You could just put it on in the locks and then take it off again.
another great vlog , i think it's about time they did abit more dredging on those canals & rivers , when you go back to your van , do walk back , or cycle back ? .
I cycle and walk or get a bus. I enjoy it. The canals now are much deeper but there is shallow bits so I still have to be careful Lori. Have a great evening or morning afternoon wherever you are. Cheers
You crack me up. When you put messages on the screen, good stuff. Question. When you use the hand crank before you open the lock, what's that tool in your hand for? It's probably a stupid question, I know. Cheers mate
Enjoy the vlog Aciiiiiiiddd 🤣🤣 that was funny. I couldn’t remember where that was. Wakefield area is big but really didn’t recognise it lol. The river’s do seam harder work but they look lovely to cruse down. Have you reached York? Enjoy

Did a course (narrowboating) yesterday Will - my brain was surely frazzled by the end of the day with all that 'concentration' 😆

Love rivers in the summer not the winter. My favourites are the Avon (Warwickshire)and the Soar.
I did the Avon last year. What a treat that was. I always make my way to rivers in summer Tony. Much more remote and quite. Love um.
