  • Next up is the Remington Model 34 NRA Target in .22 rimfire. Found this beauty in a gun shop just as you see here.....with the receiver drilled and tapped for a scope with the Lyman 55 peep sight and partridge front sight missing, sling swivels but no sling, and chrome bolt and trigger. It was so cheap I couldn't say no and thankfully so because it is accurate as can be and so fun and pleasant to shoot. Didn't even need to sight in the scope.....it was perfect.
    C. C. Loomis was the designer here and I encourage you to research his design here and read all the patents......VERY interesting and a unique action and ammo feeding design not used anywhere else. It is a highly respected design that ACTUALLY WORKS AS INTENDED.
    Thanks for tuning in.....I appreciate every one of your views, likes, subscriptions, and comments. I'm planning some real cool videos so stay tuned!

    My dad was born in 1917 and shot a model 34 for years, and that rifle turned into our carry rifle on the farm. I has seen duty on tractors, trucks, combines, and wore out lots of farm pickups. It looks like it has been used hard, but is still all original, and all there except the rear sight elevator ramp. It doesn't need it, that rifle will still shoot the whiskers off a fly at 50 yards! I have it in my safe now, I need to chrono it and see what kind of velocity it will spit lead at. I imagine it won't be much after many many thousands of rounds. Fantastic rifle.

    I have one. I bought it because it looked small but at an adult length. I took it to a gunsmith to have the front sight adjusted. He tried to coax me to mount a scope on it. I couldn't believe it. He was an established and respected gunsmith. I lost all trust in him. I've never gone back to him.

      Gunsmiths make a lot of money mounting scopes......it's definitely the collectors job to do the protecting. Good decision to skip the drilling but give the guy a break....just trying to earn a living.

    Thanks for the video and information on the rifle. I bought a model 34 about 15 years ago from a gentleman that needed money to support his habit. He said give me 25 bucks I'll give you this gun. I couldn't pull the money out fast enough. I own a handful of 22 rifles and the 34 easily out shoots them all.

    My grandfather bought a Model 34 new for his farm in Minnesota during the 1930s. My father used it to kill various criters for the farm table and to feed his pet fox and Red Tail Hawk. I in turn did a lot of shooting with it during the late 1980s. It was the most accurate .22 I have ever fired. It seemed impossible to miss with it! By that time he had also bought a Ruger 10/22 and we shot it for comparison. It seldom got fired in the future because it was garbage compared to the Model 34.

    A couple years ago USOG did a video on 2 very unique 22 rifles, the Remington 34 & the Winchester Model 55 rimfire, which is a semi auto single shot that fires from an open bolt. I bought the Winchester 55 rimfire, but haven’t gotten the Rem 34 yet. I think the Winchester Model 55 rimfire would be right up your alley for a review.

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Winchester model 55 has been elusive for me…..I’ve had my eyes open.
      The Marlin Model 50 is another elusive open bolt .22 auto loader. (Sears Ranger 34a)
      FYI, anything post 1982 that fires from an open bolt is looking for trouble. Keep some historical paperwork in that rifle case detailing manufacturing date window for that Winchester just in case.

    I found one in the trunk of a car in a junk yard. I bring in and sell scrap metal i find on peoples lawns and then buy steel for 10 cents a pound to use for blacksmithing while im there. I added this to my steel pile and they sold it to me so i basically got this nra target model for under a dollar. Probably less than 50 cents because its real lightweight.

      Its awesome, holds so much ammo. Great plinker. Bad part is i had it sitting in the corner and the cat knocked it over and cracked the stock. It didnt snap in half so i put wood glue in the seam and its held up fine..unless it falls over again lol.
