    At first glimpse I thought you were holding the wood with a banana

    Why did you fill with joint compound instead of patching the hole? As in cutting the hole square and cutting a piece of extra drywall to fill the void? Then use spackle or compound to smooth that over.
    I followed your video and it's working so far. But drying time for that much compound is at least 24 hours, so that part is taking a while. Only have one coat and it's the next day. It's shrunk a bit and is still soft in the middle. Will surely take 1 or 2 more layers and that's 1 or 2 more days. I don't think the hole I'm working with is much bigger than the one in the video. Curious what yours thoughts are.
    Anyway, thanks for the video!

      I agree with your comment on Adam's video - e.g. using a piece of drywall to fill the hole. At the same time, as a DIYer, I found the best upgrade to my drywalling has been buying the Quikset 90 or 45-minute mud. It undergoes a reaction to harden in an hour to an hour and a half instead of air drying for like 24h and it is ready to work with, sand, prime etc. in that short time. For big patches just get some of that - it's cheap, like 10-20$ for a big bag of mixable powder - and it gets you finishing projects MUCH faster.

    Fantastic Timing Adam!
    I was just looking at My towel racks (that are currently down) in both My Bathroom's last night! I've got a bit of a nightmare here in a remodel job gone bad!! So, I'm just trying to get some basic things put back properly. I'm going to be "repairing" the towel rack holes left in the walls within the next few day's. I knew the old holes wouldn't be good and Why "They" removed the towel racks but didn't do anything about patching the holes left behind before painting! I've found big dents in the corners of walls and just plain holes painted over!! I'm sick to say the least but, "I've got it handled"!! 💪 This video couldn't have come at a better time to help Me with the towel racks! (What type of glue did You use on the wood stick to hold and bond it to the plaster inside the wall?) I've got holes to patch where the blinds were also and New Blinds will be installed. I'm sure I will have to repair the old holes before installing the New Blinds. Would You recommend the same type of patching "putty" (for lack of a better word) those holes also? I'll be looking for a lot of HELP Videos to get My home put back together "Correctly"! I'm "confident" I can get it done! Thanks Adam I truly appreciate Your Videos!

      You are right, you can use the same patching compound for the holes from the blinds and also dents in the wall. As for the glue, I used wood glue. But I guess even white school glue would work. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! Best of luck! ;)

    Do you know the manufacturer of that towel rack? I have the same one, it has a sticker with number but does not cross reference.

    Thanks. My problem is they mounted it so the bar turns - which is nice - but now the bar falls out. So I want to move one side a fraction of an inch closer.

      @chadpugh1490 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yobanytiu6743 take your hardware out of the wall. Fill that hole with Great Stuff. Put your hardware back in and hang your bar. Tape the bar holder to the wall nice and tight so that as the foam expands, it doesn't push it out. Use a tape that won't peel your paint also. Let set overnight. Cheap and easy.

    I like these quick diy's but the problem is if you put more weight onto the wood it'll probably crack the drywall so its like a tier up better than just screwing through drywall. I wish it was possible to screw to the foundation, i guess thats a good reason to know where the studs are or the 2x4's. unless your walls not (left to right) wide enough then you can only put it in a certain location with barely much play of where you want it.

      That seems to be a common problem that there aren't "studs" where You want to place a Towel Rack. I believe Adams idea of putting the wood behind the wall will definitely make it hold much better than nothing but plaster. Especially if there's any weight put on it for a period of time. Good point! 👍😉

      Yes We do live and learn! I've had a cubboard in just the plaster with butterfly type screws for a linen cupboard and after about 4 year's of holding, One night I heard a huge bang and the Entire Cupboard came down! I had huge holes as a result. I'm not very fond of relying on the Plaster to hold for very long now. I'd like to be sure now that I'm doing the work, that it's gonna hold for a good time! I'm not going to mess around with anything now! I'm going to try to do it right the first time! I don't have a Man to do things for Me and even when I did, He was not a handyman to begin with! Now that it's My home, I intend to do it right the first time! Not taking any chances! LOL!
      I'm not getting any response from Adam on the glue that I should use to hold the wood behind the wall. Do You know the type of glue I should use? I want to be sure it stays put Against the plaster. I'd really appreciate any suggestions You might add. Thanks in advance for your help! I'll be looking for your reply. Much appreciated!

      Well this is still probably sturdier than toggle bolts, which is usually my go-to to fix these things. I'm not a huge fan of toggles, but they work. This wood solution seems a lot nicer.

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I see what you are saying but have done it this way for many years and never had it crack or become loose. One would have to throw some serious weight/abuse on it to damage it again. I guess it possible, but not likely.

  • @initiate22000

    Would this work with a plaster wall?

  • @edwardc2432
    @edwardc2432 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't toggle bolts give almost the same results? All without making such a big hole and plaster and paint?
