You should read more about the French Foreign Legion, The Harlem Hellfighters (Most condecorated military unit of the United States outside of the US.) German African Askaris etc... AND the helmets you see being used in BF1 are history accurate.
So before you start dissing things, you should educate yourself a little bit because at this point you are not insulting the game. You are insulting those who died during the second bloodiest conflict this world has seen.

The last point on Verdun Heights in the Devil’s Anvil operation, when the smog comes in. The Germans all pour into the meat grinder, everything has an orange reddish tint from all the fire on the map. The screaming, explosions and gunfire combined with that perfect end of the round theme of pure desperation. The atmosphere for a ww1 game is perfect, battlefield 1 is a great example of how a large budget can be used to make a one of a kind game experience. The music of bf1 is also top notch.

I agree. BF3 to BF4 was bad IMO because the maps in BF3 were more on the "linear" side. BF4 was just a big map where anyone can go "anywhere" so to speak. It felt like I was playing in a sandbox and there was no progression throughout the match unless it was a map like locker/metro. BF1 comes out and most if not all base maps were linear just like BF3 and I enjoyed it more.

  • @AClassicBrick

Looking back the gameplay of Battlefield 1 was great. Apart from a very few balancing issues (Mortar Truck and the Ilya Muromets) I never got the feeling I died undeserved in this game, I'm alway like "ah yeah, that was a stupid idea of mine and it immediatly backfired on me" instead of BF2042, where it's just like "what in the world should I have done to prevent dying there?"
I also loved how distinguished the classes are in bf1 and how you really feel like you're changing your playstyle when switching class, how ranged engagements change the mindset depending on which class and gun you're using. The often critizised random bullet deviation/ spread of the guns I also enjoyed. That is mainly due to the fact that I think it is important in order to balance the weapons. In other Battlefield games you can outsnipe a sniper with a machine pistol... in Battlefield 1 you have to be a little smarter than that.
The map design was also amazing. Most of the maps always have enough cover to use to get to your prefered distance of combat. All weapons are useful on almost all maps (alright, maybe a shotgun isn't the best idea to use on Giant's Shadow or Galicia). And tbh Battlefield 2042 made me appreciate how Dice handled wide open maps in BF1, as even maps like Galicia have cover in most places, that can be used even though the map is a giant open mudfield.
I don't wanna focus on it much, as basically the whole world agrees on it, but of course Battlefield 1s atmosphere is the most amazing thing a shooter game ever pulled of in my opinion. From the sounddesign to the voice acting to the musical score, it all comes together perfectly!
Another great point is the vehicle combat (apart from the afore mentioned mortar truck and ilya) as it rewards a more aggressive yet team oriented way of playing. A tank can be easily destroyed by a few assaults and is no invincible powermachine, however if you advance with a few teammates, you can let hell loose on the enemy, as the tanks excell at close quarters combat and if you have a competent tank crew, a tank driver is a key player that can really make an impact on the game as a whole. In BFV tanks seem to be designed for long range, because of their high bullet velocity, high explosive damage and not much bullet drop, but suck at close quarters, since they lack machine gunners all around to cover their sides, resulting in them camping on hills most of the time. In BF2042 the sheer mass of vehicles with no effective way to combat them, make them a nighmare to go up against.

Hmmm, it would work in any of the older conflicts, but war has changed, there is no taking potshots from trench to trench or en-masse assaults on enemy lines.
