    Its cool to see some oldschool snooker.. Horace was a pro between 1931-1957.. He died 1974.

      That's correctl. I spent a day with him at the Ipswich annual show. WD&HO Wills sponsored him to be there. They were promoting a new cigarette called Wild Woodbines. He did half hour demonstrations of billiards and his famous finger spins. He offered for me to go to Sydney and give me lessons. Several months passed and I wrote to him about going down. He wrote back and said that he was compiling a book for the Paul Hamyln House and when he finished I could come down. I never got there because he died. He did show me a few interesting shots that I have never forgotten and used at times on the pool table.

    This is such a fantastic video.
    Pure history in this video, it’s crazy
    And the table is sooo slow, it’s like playing on carpet I imagine 🤣

    I spent a day with Horace Lindrum at the Ipswich Queensland show. He did half hour demonstrations including his famous finger spins.He showed me how to go in off the red when directly behind the black spot and the cue ball on brown spot. He could go in off either top pockets 9 out 10. I would doubt if there is anyone alive today who could do this. However he would not be in the same league as some of the players of today in snooker in my opinion.

    for those watching in full colour, they grey ball is the one between the grey and the grey.

      Yes. The grey is worth 2,3 or 4 points, though sometimes it’s worth 5 or 6! Black is still 7 though. So confusing.

    Hes really talented this is near the beginning of the sport snooker is only around 100 years old billiards much older at least 500 years. Without these players leading the way back then snooker wouldn't be like it is today

    • @bartholomewchuzzlewit4356
      @bartholomewchuzzlewit4356 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you have got that right. I think he only made one maximum break of 147. He said that the maximum possible is 154...if opponent comes off back cushion to break them and fouls on the black and then other player clears table. I may be wrong but I think he said Melbourne Innman did it. The players today have taken it to a new level.

      @@bullsnutsoz well I only ever played pool because there were no full size tables in my home town. We had a full size table at home but my dad died when I was 9 and I had 8 brothers, so you didn't get to play...they all had their mates to play. So when dad died they sold the table and made a small unit to rent so mum would have some income. I was not too bad at pool, but always wanted to get on the '40 acre 'paddock as Horace used to call it. It's a great game. Would have been interesting if Walter had taken it up seriously. He scored a 100 points I think in 27 seconds. Horace was not too shabby at billiards either.

    • @edmundpower1250
      @edmundpower1250 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bartholomewchuzzlewit4356 that wouldn't be a break of 154. To get a 155 a person needs to leave a free ball after he breaks and gives his opponent the opportunity to use the freeball as red and then proceed to pot the black and then get a 147 on top of that 8

    • @bartholomewchuzzlewit4356
      @bartholomewchuzzlewit4356 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edmundpower1250 If he fouls on the black when breaking, that's 7,then opponent pots a red and black, then clears the table, does that bring the break to 162? Highly improbable but not impossible.
