  • the part at 0:54 HAS to be one of my favorite musical phrases of all time
    non youtube-crushed download: drive.google.c...
    not sure why I gravitated towards this specific song for a restoration... I just happened to start working on it and it just sounded SO good. you might not be able to tell the difference just listening to this on its own, but it becomes incredibly apparent when you compare back and forth with the original (good headphones highly recommended of course)
    the only instruments here that aren't restored are the bass and the piano hit at the end of the loop. the bass because I don't have access to the Roland JD-990's waveforms, and the piano hit because when I tried recreating it with the normal piano, it just sounded weird. some EQ is also lightly applied to make some of the treble less harsh
    these instruments come from mostly Roland synthesizers with a couple from Korg, and three samples from Sound Ideas (engine, crashing "snare", and kick "drum”, which is actually a gun lol)
    and now that I'm not writing an essay in the description I can properly credit people:
    • VGM & Other Instrument Sources Discord: / discord
    • NEWER VGM Sound Sources spreadsheet: docs.google.co...
    • ‪@MrPinci19‬ for their Kirby's Dream Soundfont spreadsheet, as well as supplying a couple instruments: docs.google.co...

    Never actually played Kirby 64, but the first time I heard this track immediately my head perked up and I was like, "What the hell is this?!!" Just one of the all-time greats. Awesome restoration.

    it’s come to my attention that I (and the whole internet) use the term “soundfont” wrong. it’s just a file format, not the actual name of a group of instruments. it’s like calling all scientific papers “pdfs”.
    but I feel like if I start using the words “sound library” in my titles then they won’t gain as much traction. what to do…

    • @marinellovragovic1207
      @marinellovragovic1207 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yet "soundfont" is the perfect word to describe what a defined set of instrument samples is. Stick with it. Its meaning has changed over the course of the years and the original definition is long gone.

    • @DoodleHero
      @DoodleHero ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@marinellovragovic1207 Exactly, I think 'soundfont' has evolved into a new meaning and is just fine the way it is. It's like how people call animated pictures on the internet "GIFs" even though nowadays they're more likely to be webms or whatnot. Being technically correct isn't more important than being clear, concise, and understandable to audiences.

    • @DavidSartor0
      @DavidSartor0 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can try using "sound library" for a video or two.
      There's not much harm in trying. Maybe people understand what you mean, and don't find your videos through search engines.
      Experimentation is good, especially for someone who releases so many videos as you.

    This is awesome!!! My only thing to add about the audio mixing though is that the record scratch sounding sample seems to have been turned down way more than it should. Its used as a part of the percussion and should still be audible and pronounced. Otherwise, amazing work!!!
