  • After years of using this model to demonstrate our light and sound kit, I decided to complete it with a paint scheme representing the studio scale model.
    Visit us at www.starling-tech.com
We have the lighting kit available and many photos of this model will be uploaded to our gallery.

Stan, hi! I think I asked you before, but what paint brand and colors did you use on this beauty? You totally nailed the base color!

The blue-greens and light gray accents were also ace, of course ;)

Thanks :)I found photos of the actual model and tried to match colors as best as I could. I used mostly model master acrylics with model master enamel washes. I didn't keep track of everything, just made enough for the whole model, after doing small spot testes, trying colors as needed.
The lighter green color you see on most of the ship is Model Master "Pale Green" with some "Blue angels yellow" and a little "gloss green". I made a darker green to stand out from the color created above, from " Pale green" by adding "gloss green" to it. I also used "Green zink Chromatic" on some of the panels. There was a lot of taping to do :(.
The Blue green color was made of "gloss green" and some "flate white" with a little "Dark blue". I spent more time mixing and testing than painting LOL. Gray was made with "white" and "black" tiny touch of "dark blue".
      Aluminum for the baffles.
2 coats of Future floor polish was used to seal the paint before adding the washes, it allows washes to erase easily with mineral spirits.
I used flat black enamel watered down with odorless mineral spirits for my wash. When it dried I coated 3 light coats of future. I mixed a touch of red to testers enamel stain #2180 Rust#2, and did a rust was in the various areas you see in the video. At the end I sprayed 2 coats of future, and 2 coats of 4636 Flat clear acrylic. Through all of this , I gave each coat of paint a couple of days to dry before applying another color that needed taping off. I waited 1 day after I applied future to do the washes. Took several weeks to complete.
